Zion can easily escape what people think of him if he worked at it. Kobe did it his whole career. Everytime people criticized Kobe's game he evolved and proved the critics wrong. He needs to find a good trainer and chef. He’s got team trainers telling him he shouldn’t workout with weights too much, which is straight from David Griffins mouth. He’s got a chef who doesn’t want him eating any carbs. That combination is a recipe for disaster and does not bode well for building muscle mass. Any athlete who ever hit the weight room will tell you it made them significantly stronger and healthier. It also prevents injuries and heals them quicker if they happen. Finally it increases mental faculties as well. Those are just a few of the benefits. David Griffin and his “World Class Training and Medical Staff” is holding Zion back from flourishing, as well as the rest of the team. No one on the team has built any kind of significant muscle. They all look exactly the same as they were since David stepped office. Most of them haven’t put on any weight at least according to the team’s website. That includes all rookies drafted by David who are still on the team. Zion is not the problem. David and his staff are. They have failed him since day 1. Zion is to blame for showing up after draft day in worse shape than he was at Duke. Then it fell on the staffs shoulders and it’s been a bunch quackery since.

I don´t know how old you are...but the NBA mentality back then was totally different across the board. Back then players had a sense of pride to be NBA players. Today many of these kids in the NBA become nationally known when they´re in highschool. Also...one major things that´s missing is that no one explains to these kids what situation they are in. Role model, entertainer, team player and so on. And how to take care of their bodies. Have a good day.

Good luck getting the union to ever agree to that. You MIGHT be able to get them to agree to a minimum game requirement to guarantee just a portion of the contract, but you’d have to give them something big like removing the game requirement for awards and all star nominations, more paid benefits, and probably even remove the hard cap entirely like in baseball. Basically things that probably not all of the owners, especially small market ones, will be on board with, which would lead to a lockout.

You are right Shannon, athletes wonder will this health hold up after an injury. In your head there may be a block, sometimes you push through others it hinders you. Its a fear to relapse (sometimes). Not certain if your latter arguments could be what is at play as well, because his destination may be a factor, would he be more willing to play somewhere else?

Hmmmm, this sounds familiar...oh yeah, because that's EXACTLY what they did last year. Sit Zion out when they got beat in the first round, go on and on about how he's going to get healthy, post pictures showing how slim he looks, starts playing and looks like a generational talent, then gets injured and sits out when they need him the most. Unless Zion and the Pelicans make a signifigant change this is going to repeat again and again...

Well, it shouldn't matter what he wants, he got drafted. If players are just gonna sit out because they feel like it or because they don't like the team theyre on while making oodles of money, the NBA is in big trouble, but this is already being echoed. Jordan got drafted to Bulls, did he want to go there, who knows, but he made it work
@tigera6

@@haroldsfishingadventures754 But players start to get more power though. You would never imagine someone who just signed a long-term deal would demand a trade, but KD did and forced a trade to the Suns. Other players will start to get what they want really soon, and I wont be shock if those high draft pick will get to choose their team as well sooner or later..

The problem is pro athletes overall get paid too much and the system is too willing to give it up. It makes for an environment where athletes think of themselves too highly and their agents/family thinking they’re indispensable to society. Seriously?! Life will go on. Sometimes we need to be appreciative for what we’re handed in life and give more than we want to take.

@scratchpenny
@scratchpenny Жыл бұрын
@@20trillion That's true as well. It doesn't mean these athletes/entertainers are not being overvalued. In general, it's a problem with modern society. So many people don't contribute much value to humanity, but we reward them because of our society's misplaced values in superficial and unimportant things. And when society does too much of that, it creates soft people. But the entire culture is unsustainable, and so it will eventually collapse. People will look back at America like we look at Rome.

@@20trillion I am not saying that athletes have no value, just that they are overpraised/overvalued and not as important as they think. For example, the whole point of professional athletics is to entertain people. That's it. They don't save lives. They don't set policy. They don't even build or create anything. They are not out here doing the most critical roles in society. But just like actors, they receive far too much attention because of our misguided cultural values where we worship fame and celebrity. It's the same thing with people like the Kardashians or Instagram models. These types offer little to nothing to improve society, but they get treated like they are vital. That's why I said the culture is unsustainable. It's all built on superficial perceptions rather than actual production. At least athletes have real skills, though.
