My question is: How is any of this relevant at all? Why do people need to do archaeology just to have the right to continue living in their home? It seems to rest on an essentialist and heavily nationalist understanding of human rights. Even if the Palestinians did not show up until after the First World War (which I know is not true, but for the sake of argument), that's still plenty of time to establish a home and a community, which should be respected.

Because at the end of the day, EVERYONE, regardless of how much history they have in a place, should have a right to their home, their community, their freedom of movement, political representation, etc. And I worry that by engaging with Israel's defenders on this point, we are implicitly accepting their assertion that the right to live with dignity in a place is determined by archaeology rather than by everyone's fundamental human rights. We are not justifying a single instance of persecution however when citing examples one should not isolate minor instances while omitting the major and consistent ones. It's deception by omission. Historical context is important here, he did what he did AFTER the Arab nations were defeated and humiliated in the Arab-israeli conflict resulting in the mass expulsion of Arabs (the Nakba) from their homeland. What he did was not because he hated Jews but a retaliatory act. If you expel our brothers, then we will return the favour. However, by that time - most of the Jewish community had already left for the new state in Jerusalem and David Ben Gurion was more than happy to have them. Judaism is a matrilineal tradition, you are either born into it or not. Anyone seeking to become a Jew but who isn't born of a Jewish mother is classified a Noahide. We know enough about Judaism to understand the fraud perpetuated by Hasidic and Ashkenazim. They are Europeans, the real Jews are the Mizraim and Sephardic (although they are a mix of European). No one is denying the need for a persecuted people to have their own home, but not if it creates pain and misery for another people who have had no part in causing the chaos that resulted in the mass persecution of Ashkenazim in Europe Why didn't they accept Uganda when it was proposed? I just see claiming being a Jew the one 2000BC from Judea is nonsense as you are unable to claim your family tribe to that date. There were mixed marriages in Europe some people converted etc. Whole idea receiving an Israeli citizenship based on being Jew is a nonsense.
