I felt sad when i fought him in NG+3 and i had read that Godwyn had fortisaxx as a friend and the closest Godrick could get to that was grafting a rotting dragon, even treating it as a friend. Morgott was the true lord of Leyndell, and a direct son to the Golden Lineage, but he was rejected due to being born as an Omen. That's a good point. I had taken the piling of corpses here as Godrick's doing. The caskets were heavy, and hewn from stone - it would not only take tremendous manpower to carry them all here, but great resources to craft them too. It's possible that both are true, and that perhaps Godrick was using this as a sort of remote larder for those he may want to graft later. On the note of the caskets being so heavy, I also had the thought that they were made in such a way so that if tarnished were buried within them, they would not be strong enough to lift the lids off and escape should they awaken from death.

Interesting thing I found about Godwyn... in contrast to the "favored child" description that's often stated, if you talk to the ghost outside of the church of pilgrimage, Godwyn is instead described as Merika's "unwanted" child... interesting bit that would put more credence to the black knife assassination of Godwyn on Merika's hands

@@Ziostorm Found the exact quote. "The mausoleum prowls. Cradling the soulless demigod. O Marika, Queen Eternal. He is your unwanted Child." It's possible that this ISN'T referring to Godwyn, and the "He" is merely referencing the mausoleum, and the "cradling the soulless demigod" is just a hint that you can collect boss souls from the mausoleums, but that would seem to be a very akward way of conveying that if that was the intent. I suppose it's also possible that the "soulless demigod" is someone other than Godwyn, but I have no idea who else could fit that description

@@Ziostorm Yes, the corpses in the mosoleums are indeed other dead Demigods born of Marika.
@socialjihad57242 жыл бұрын
@@Ziostorm I'm not sure that explanation makes sense given this dialogue for a couple reasons. First, the description is the "soulless demigod", not just "dead"... the circumstances which led to Godwyn's soulless state were very unique, resulting in the bodiless Ranni. Why would this have been done with a bunch of other demigods as well? Where are all the bodiless demigods? Second, "he is your unwanted Child" is a very specific description to apply to some random, unnamed demigod in a mausoleum that is one of many, without a single other piece of dialogue or item description further developing this. Lastly, I'm not sure it's a good idea to assume that there ARE a bunch of other unnamed demigods that were killed in the night of the black knives. As far I know, this idea stems from the implication of Godwyn being described as first to die, but keep in mind, this is implication through a translated text, and the "first" still works if it's framed in the context of time: before Godwyn was killed, no demigod had ever died. More importantly though, there doesn't seem to be a single piece of dialogue or item description actually referencing a single other demigod, named or unnamed, that either died or even existed...we get descriptions of mercenaries from some far off lands, but literal demigods leave no trace of their presence? I dunno, just not sure I can buy that, but maybe I'm missing something

@ricardodarcangelo24372 жыл бұрын
Hmm good assumption. Except in the case of Melina, she's, let's call her a spiritual being. She knows details like these for a different reason. However, the very FIRST person you talk to... that's a different story. That person also calls you maidenless, knows where to find dead maidens, and has a motive for drawing in tarnished... something Melina doesn't really have. If she really had to weasel in with some tarnished, all she'd have to do is lie and say she was their maiden. Given what this other person does, and what they later do in game, it would not be unreasonable to suspect them of wanton murder, simply to further their own goals. This was my 2nd choice for the cause of the dead maidens anyways; with the most likely cause simply being the various Gods vying for power, and the agents of said gods. All of these powers want tarnished out of the way, so they can manipulate demigods to use as puppets. Tarnished are trying to kill demigods, to install themselves as Elden Lord, or as a consort to a demigod; so they need to be eliminated (godrick's hunts) or prevented from being a threat (maidenless). So it's likely just back story lore. But if it is a character in game killing maidens, then I think the most evidence points to person I described

Godrick is Godwyn's twin brother. Godwyn's body is underground with Fia at the end of her questline, not under the castle. The one under the castle is similar because they BOTH tried to ascend/transform to attain the power of an Empyrean and thereby the ability to replace Marika. Godrick failed and Godwyn was likely successful or nearly successful until the night the rune of death was stolen. This left Godrick being labeled "weak", which left him bitter and slighted so he decided to instead try grafting to attain the power. I believe that Godwyn's ascension was at least in part why he was targeted first by the assassins. The game is clear Marika had "countless" children in the lands between and we know one of her children is needed to ascend and replace her, so logic dictates he was the closest one to ascending.

I think Marika foresaw that the greater will was going to replace her with Godwyn and demote her back to Renalla's consort to maintain good relations there. Radagon liked this idea, because he was tired of wanking and calling it intercourse, which is why he opposed Marika later shattering the Elden Ring. To secure her own authority and preserve her sense of self, as to Marika Radagon was a secondary construct and Godwyn was more the product of the Greater Will than her child; she manipulated Ranni into killing Godwyn. That way she also got to spite Radagon, by killing one of his kids. This is why Ranni was partially killed; Marika wanted to tie up loose ends. But, the Greater will had other machinations in mind, and spared Ranni's Soul and Godwyn's body to throw a wrench in the works. The black knife assassins are Marika's agents, not Ranni's, which is supported by how they attack Iji later once Marika realizes Ranni is going to depose and destroy her. As a last ditch effort, Marika shattered the Elden ring to fulfill her ultimate prophesized plan B and recall the tarnished. To which the Greater Will replied by sealing the Erdtree, having Godrick hunt the Tarnished, and lying to the two fingers about how it supports the Tarnished so it could lead them astray from Marika's Grace.

Marika didn't manipulate Ranni though... and Godwyn wasn't an Empyrean so he couldn't become a god - when he was alive at least. He contradicts himself in a very obvious way when he is telling the story of the shattering. "It happened during the Golden Age of the Erdtree, long before the shattering of the Elden Ring. Someone stole a fragment of the Rune of Death from Maliketh, the Black Blade. And on a bitter night, murdered Godwyn the Golden. That was the first recorded Death of a demigod in all history. And it became the catalyst. Soon, the Elden Ring was smashed, and thus sprang forth the war known as the Shattering." So did it happen long before the shattering or right before it? What Rogier tells us about Godwyn is contradicted by what we learn from Fia much later. It makes much more sense to me to assume that the body under Stormveil is yet another unnamed demigod who was slain with the power of the rune of death. I see no reason to assume that Godwyn's body duplicated itself in death and moved out to the countryside.

I still don’t understand the golden lineage. Is that just how the lore is? I doubt the vague explanations aren’t on purpose. It’s explained marika and Godfrey had 3 kids but then wtf is godrick? Did Godfrey have a few hoes? Did marika have fun outside the marriage? What is the direct relationship between marika Godfrey and godrick? Distant relative means anything. The lore does a great job at remaining ambiguous. Thanks for the content guys y’all r great.

@ 20:00 ish, the old king mentioned in stormhawk deenh's description was stormhawk king. they are found together because deenh was so faithful and they both mention the same storm.

also, I think that painting from earlier was stormveil when the stormhawk king was king. there was no castle and only the storm during his reign.

I don't know if it's said anywhere in the game, but I don't think the Omen brothers were the result of Godfrey's blood being diluted. If I'm not mistaken, they are the direct children of Godfrey and Marika, and direct siblings to Godwyn. We know how powerful Morgott is after we saw him in the cutscene giving a whallop to Radahn. Hell, he is the Omen King after all, the true king of Leyndall. Good video as always.

Actually Morgott also refers to Godrick as ‘golden’ during his introductory cutscene

just a lil side not about the banished knights and connection to farum azula. The one knight located at the beginning of the game behind the imp door who drops the dragon communion seal and the other who patrols the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. not sure what it implies but is a neat detail. Great video!

Godwyn's death caused his body to leak death. The roots led to many undead monsters. They attempted to bury his body under the castle but where unable to contain it which is why underground you are able to see the deathroots.

Nay, the Stormlord, previous Lord of Stormveil seems to be the last enemy Godfrey defeated prior to losing his grace.
@Ziostorm2 жыл бұрын
Nowhere in the lore does it say he was ruler of Stormveil

@@Ziostorm I think that's the implication on the stele outside Stormveil. Besides, where else are we supposed to place the Stormlord? Can't be Liurnia, that's hogwarts property. Doubt its Caelid, there's no mention of him there. Can't be Farum Azula either, Hic Svnt Dracones for one, and I don't see any evidence of Godfrey ever going there.
@Ziostorm2 жыл бұрын
@@jellydamgood the painting is a good measure to tackle this idea. We know the storm raged in that location long before Stormveil castle existed. He was likely the lord back then
@jellydamgood2 жыл бұрын
@@Ziostorm Yea prior to getting offed by Big G Godfrey. The painting was likely made in remembrance of that. Of course whether the castle was built by the Stormlord or Godfrey I am not sure. I'm gonna go with yes, because his title of Lord implies it. But then he could just be called Lord due to his mastery of storm powers, honestly could go either way.

I appreciate when video game characters don’t use the cliche English accent. It sounds refreshing and normal to my ear. I love how Godfrey and Godrick pronounced “lord” as “lor-rrr-d” 😝

Wouldn't the storm and the ruins from the sky be Farum Azula before it began to crumble? While I don't know why it would be in limgrave and why it began to crumble, I still think this is a very possible answer. Maybe another thing leading this to be slightly real is that limgrave has dragons in it, and so does farum azula? Idk, the types of dragons in the Farum Azula are lightning dragons that are cleaerly more ancient than any other dragons we encounter. I'd also like to say that I believe that people are overlooking the dragons and their existence in the lore because they seem to be present everywhere and have a strong connection to elements.
