Zippo ASMR (no talking): Bringing Brass Back to Life

The best down time is cleaning a Zippo that has been well loved. Sometimes you don't need to talk, you just gotta do it.
Despite the unique characteristics added by time to this classic Hard Rock Brass Zippo, it was requested that it be cleaned and polished inside and out.
This is not a complete restoration, but a cleaning that any collector can do with the basic items:
White Vinegar: Breaks up carbon build up
Q Tips: To get in those tight spots
Soapy Water: Removes vinegar
Rem Oil (Any lubricant): Prevents Rusting
Brasso to help remove tarnish or stains
There are several ways to clean a Zippo, how do you do it?
FYI: Not a big fan of using tooth paste, hard to remove in crevices and course tooth paste may remove brass coating on insert.

Honestly I prefer the patina of an old lighter and would have just fixed the hinge and replaced the consumables instead. But you did clean it up nicely. 👍

I love that dull yellow brass, can we get rid of the verdigris without losing the dull yellow, I love it when they grow brown too like my brass pen body.

I found that once you start polishing, my OCD says I got to polish the rest.

Any tip to remove (if possible) copper stains?

Brass can turn a copper color due to a chemical process called dezincification, which occurs when the zinc leaches out of the brass leaving behind just the copper (brass is made up of copper and zinc). So if you have copper “stains” you won’t be able to get them out because the integrity of the brass is lost.

How long do you put in vinegar for?

As long as it needs to be soaked, but maybe not longer than 12 hours…. Vinegar could rust it fast.

Vinegar soak then straight to dawn dish soap with a toothbrush after use q tips to dry some. That's how I've done it for years now. Now can you guess who I am Jon. 😂

Heavily used, built up tension, lots of hard flint wheel strikes. Not very common but I’ve seen some worn out springs.

It can however some toothpaste has course grains in it and can cause fine line scratching

No you don't. These lighters are so powerful that they scare off foxes in the earth's shadow time. You can't even pack a zippo lighter with cotton.
