In this video, I work on replacing a fuel tank that got a hole rubbed into it because one of the wheel wedges came loose and the tire went inward causing it to rub a hole into the tank! This is usually caused from human error and not getting them tight enough, properly torqued, or the wedges didn't get re-torqued after some hours were put on the tractor. I've never had a wheel come loose when it is properly torqued and re-torqued after driving it. But, it is what it is and needs to be fixed. A lot more stuff has to come off than I thought to get the fuel tank out. Enjoy the ride as I tackle this large project!

What an absolute nightmare. Don’t think we’ll be buying anything new, stick to the old reliable ones and employ people to drive them!! Cheaper to run, easier to fix and employ people!!!😂

@jameschristie4596 what's the alternative? Pull a fuel barrel behind your implement? I think some of the 40 series use to have steel tanks right in front of the radiator and behind the rock box/weights but they weren't 192gallons either.

I enjoy watching you make those repairs to the big green iron. We had the other green and red iron plus some orange MM combin. Please take care. Keep that iron moving along. 👈👍😎

You do good work // as a customer I always cringed at tear downs of factory assembly like this but after owning a dealership for 12 years and having a great mechanic I now believe that the re-assembly by a great tech is better than factory and a lot of fine tuning gets done which makes the re-assembly like this at least as good as the assembly line and most likely much better

An automotive engineer once told me that car fuel tanks are quite literally designed by having the CAD software "select empty space" and putting a form around it as a first step. Of course that gets touched up a little bit and made cheaper to produce, but that's how they end up in the shapes they are. I can well imagine John Deere doing the same with this fuel tank, plus tidying up the lines and harnesses on top a little bit to go in more cleanly.

Thanks for a absolutely great video and a huge huge project being filmed. It was interesting and enjoyable for sure. Wow and more wow’s. What a huge project this was to replace the gas. Before I go farther and don’t laugh at me, I am surprised that John Deere does not have a replacement program for a major project like this instead of the local shop doing this. The local shop has a lot of time in this. Just saying. ZK and the new person, Zach I believe you said, my respect to you for tackling this project. You basically disassembled this tractor. Most interesting watching this. Thanks to the John Deere engineers for figuring this out, little humor there. I appreciate the attitude you had Thur this and just getting the job done. Believe I would have walked the other direction. So interesting what it takes to do some of these new technology tractor jobs. Amazing. Thanks for filming this ZK. Am totally in aw of you and Zach for doing this job. My compliments to you ZK. My respect to you. You take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything. dont know where to begin with the "genious" designers at JD. from the fact that they put a plastic fuel tank so close to the wheel, where even a rock could damage it, or that they made a 1-piece fuel tank that needs the whole tractor disassembled to replace it... your work is fantastic as always!!!

Well, that looks like a product update on the way (or at least an idea for a proposal): make a final stop on the shaft/wedge, so the wheel can't damage other inner components when things are starting to go south for whatever reason.👍🏻💪 And a tank repair set would be nice 😜 You two look like a well oiled machine, tackling this challenge. That’s really going to blow when someone has to do that to a 20 year old tractor and nothing comes apart that easy!!! Great engineering there JD
@berniemoran8123
@berniemoran8123 2 жыл бұрын
What's really going to blow is that tank will probably be discontinued in 20 years from Deere and no replacement will be available. I figure they got about 50-60 man hours in it before they even start putting it back together, which will take even longer. What's 100+ man hours going to cost in 20 years, because it won't be warranty work then? That's when you gamble and just fix the hole in a couple hours and keep on rolling.
@999pr1
@999pr1 2 жыл бұрын
If it's 20 years old it would probably get a patch. It could not be financially viable to do that type of job on an old tractor.

The tank is in a vulnerable place. Just takes a rock to come around stuck to the tyre and it'll tear into the fuel tank. I'm also amazed at the intricate shape of that tank. Would be interesting to see the process of making it - the mould/form for it must be complex.
