It's the programme itself. He IS deplorably self satisfied in his role, but it's the exploitation of unsuspecting auditionees by the programme staff that's really at fault. The idea that people that can't sing HAVE to be put through is insane. I can't pretend I've never got any entertainment out of it- of course I have- when it's just "off the chart bad"- but I've never understood why young medium talent kids are pushed through to be humiliated, and I think when they take competent, talented people like Zoe and try to stitch them for humiliation it's utterly deplorable. Being a performer takes a lot of guts by people who are usually inherently sensitive and it's just a dreadful way to treat someone, and *criminal* to do so in the public arena of a popular televised programme. Anyway. Rant over. But what a bunch of C**ts.

Liam Payne went on a podcast a few years ago called Killing It where he talked about how fame in one direction affected his mental health. He didn't call out Syco specifically (because he can't) but it was very clear they were mistreated. They were overworked to the point they weren't human anymore. Liam said he went to a therapist after the band stopped and when she asked him what hobbies/ interests he had, Liam couldn't name anything because all had done for the last 5 years was touring for One Direction. Liam has also talked about developing an alcohol addiction and agoraphobia in one direction, but never being able to get medical because they had no actual psychiatrists/psychologists on tour.

Or that's around when they were signed. That might have been around 2017 time. I've heard more about bands having album contract lengths but the label refuse to release them even if they're fully finished and have been worked on for years. Could be for a number of reasons, but the weird one for me to hear is if they have a similar sounding artist or know of one so they just stop a release which might just kill their career dead because by then either the trend is dead or they seem like a copy and are sitting on work they can't legally put out

I highly recommend Steve Brookstein's book which he wrote a few years ago. I met Steve in 2014, lovely guy. There's a VERY interesting story about something that happened during The X Factor finals, where the production team intervened. Cassie Compton, the youngest contestant in the competition (another person I have met and who is equally lovely), was given the song All By Myself, which was originally given to Rowetta but then Cassie got it after the former couldn't pull it off. A member of the production team told Cassie to say that the song was "too big" for her, which she said on her video diary. During the live show Simon pretty much repeated the same line. He didn't even congratulate Cassie on the song. There you go. That's Simon and the production team for you - they manipulate just to create unneeded drama and create storylines for a show. This is the main reason why I haven't watched a full series in about 10 years or so.

If you haven't already, check out "Chart Throb" by Ben Elton. It's a book around the X-Factor/Voice/'s Got Talent style of show. It's been years since I read it, but I remember a couple of things, the internal mantra among the show's staff is "We are not a Talent Show, we are an Entertainment Show". When looking through the applications from the contestants, they are looking for specific characteristics, none of which have anything to do with actual talent. Lastly, the show is set up to show how the judges can basically decide who wins.

Hi Zoe, thanks for speaking out about Simon Cowell and the toxicity of Xfactor. I, like millions of others grew up watching Xfactor and thought the purpose of it was to entertain the audience, allow them to connect with artists, and see a glimpse into the music industry. In hindsight, I recognize that Simon Cowell and Co. pulled the wool over our eyes, manipulating our emotions and perceptions. Simon wants us to believe that Xfactor is the OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME that gives artists the chance to be successful in a 'tough industry'. If we knew that there were other ways to be successful as an artist, then it would make his operation with Xfactor redundant. Simon Cowell's Xfactor affects people's relationship with art in the same way that beauty magazines distort body image.

My enthusiastic audience was replaced by another one, I was interrogated and taken to a room where I was interviewed with a bright light shining on me but I wasn’t allowed to see the interviewers face. My husband was not allowed to come in. They ask very probing questions about what kind of family do you come from and exactly what position your father has in his company. The tide seems to have turned not only for UK talent shows but also reality TV because the contracts have started to come to an end. I'm noticing more and more people speaking out about reality shows where the producers have manipulated them appallingly (check out Dance Moms in the US on KZbin where young children were filmed having panic attacks etc. I can't summarise it in a post, it's so sad). Unfortuantely Simon Foul has caused endless damage to the entertainment industry but no amount of surgery can help him to see beyond the end of his own nose.

im actually so glad to see people talking about how toxic Simon is. genuinely feel bad for any contestants that were on his shows. I really feel bad for one direction as you could see after they split how Simon and Syco really had an effect on them. I feel like a lot of contestants who have become famous because of his shows feel like they owe him a lot because he got them to where they are and are scared that he will take that away from them. i genuinely hope that Simon is held accountable for everything he did and faces the consequences of his actions

Wow! I'm so happy more and more people are actually speaking out about the horrible way the contestants are treated, and the shady things that go on behind the scenes. This is so incredible! You made this all happen with just a small 2 part video, and its caused so many people now to not be scared of these people and finally speak out . You are truly amazing. This just goes to show how much 1 person can make a difference. True definition of unity. Keep updating us on all the happenings! 👏😊

Simon Cowell is the most vicious bully I have ever seen in my whole life. It's not just what he says. It's how they manipulate bad singers into coming to the show just so they can be ridiculed. That part needs to be addressed as well.

What they did to Zoe was terrible. We know that the entertainment industry is made up of slime balls. With that said, there are no innocent parties here. We live in a narcissistic society where EVERYONE wants to be (or thinks they already are) a celebrity. People are clamoring to make it on these talent shows, knowing how slimy the Simon Cowells of the world are, and then cry foul when they’re treated like trash and made a fool of🤷🏻♂️ Theres an old saying: When you lay down with dogs, you’re bound to get fleas.

Hello Zoe, I have only just learned of your story, having distanced myself from all things Cowell related since my horrific experience in 2015 with my then partner on BGT. So many things in your story rang bells with me, so many similarities. A few months after our experience was aired my partner cut his wrists having been recognised by member of the public, he healed physically, but not mentally. He died on April 29th 2020....after long very long mental health struggle induced by our horrible experience at the hands of BGT....he was 35. Since then I dont even watch terrestrial TV at all and NEVER ITV. I won't have any of those involved appear on my tv at all, not for a moment....not since then. If you have any interest in hearing my story please let me know.....if not I understand. Just know that I get it, I know what you went through.....and for my ex partner, it resulted in his life being halved. Take care Zoe, I know how strong you are, I know what it takes to come to terms with this experience XxXxX

i know im late in discovering this but when i saw your audition i had my suspicion. ofcourse at first i did thought you were crazy of a sort but then i thought yeah sure she reacted badly to it but shes gonna get bullied for the rest of her life after this audition and i imagine you sitting in a bar somewhere, drinking alone and depressed. so i thought this audition doesnt look right at all. then i research you and my god im so sorry for what youve gone through and not just for a year or two but eight years of endurance i couldn't imagine what thats like. and now im so proud of you and im glad you got justice. and its just wonderful seeing so many supported you. and you look absolutely amazing and you speak so softly and kindly it warms my heart. you've changed the world in a way. and more people speak out about their experiences. you are fated to be hero. all my love for you Zoe. and wherever you are i hope you are happy ❤️

I remember someone posted a picture of abusers in the music industry, the one who posted it on facebook was a Filipino. One of those in the picture was Simon Cowell. Unfortunately, another Filipino defended him saying that without him there'd be no One Direction. That he was a great talent search and so on... Little did they know, how every star became mentally unwell and abused. The ones he rejected also received unfair treatment and giving them a crap attitude taking a toll on their confidence, image, and their mental health as well.

I only recently saw what you went through. I always felt that there was scripting and obvious psychological abuse on these shows. I applaud your bravery and the bravery of others that speak up in hopes of putting a stop to the abuse or at least raise awareness. Bravo!

Ide actually like to hear perspective from the spice girls on this as he was their manager n they seemed very burnt out in the end. That was my era, I remember them quitting the group mutually due to feeling like their true selves wasnt represented and the issues ond direction faced just a generation earlier

My son auditioned for BGT. When he was younger . He was a trained dancer and ad experience of professional work at theatres and shows around uk and some Europe.. my gut feeling as soon as I was there with him told me it was all a fix and another agenda .. because he was never called back and some that went on to the stage were horrendous and I know it was all for the viewing and tv ratings but also making a mockery of the person doing the act ( degrading at that) glad he never went on to do anything in this industry advised by one of his teachers in this industry , also now knowing myself how dark and sinister it really is these shows need to be written of for what it has done for contestants mental health.. I feel for zoe and the ones who have been hoodwinked into this corruption of fake fortune all glamourised when it actually dark ..wishing Zoe lots of happiness for the future ..💕

Thank you for your channel! I have been seeing all this on TV when i watched the show, its so obvious who they want to take part In the show, I'm so glad you are speaking out ❤❤ Do you remember will young ? He won pop idol, and I remember him saying he was treated badly by Simon and his label, so will literally left and has become a massive success! This has been going on since Simon came onto our screens! Shane from Westlife said that Simon didn't like him at first , so Shane dyed his hair blonde, and Simon didn't register it was Shane! So the control has always been there, even before all these shows

It happened before X Factor started as well. He managed this girl group called Girl Thing and basically hyped them up as the new Spice Girls. Apparently couple of other groups were pushed aside to make way for Girl Thing because they were supposed to go #1 with their debut single (Last One Standing, released in 2000). They went #8 and afterwards, Simon ditched them like a pair of old socks. Their follow up single flopped and their album was only released in Asia/Australia and one of the tracks was “Pure & Simple”, which later on went #1 for several weeks as a debut single for Hear’Say. So much for caring about Girl Thing as soon as things went wrong. I think all 5 are scarred for life because what happened and one of them (Linzi I think) is still suffering from PTSD. Cowell is a monster.
