SwitchUp did a tech analysis of that one. They're not as in-depth as this channel, but when you know what you're looking at, it really helps fill in the gaps. Basically, they prioritized some pretty decent (compared to this game) contact shadows over texture resolution (which can be Gamecube quality), because it's an action game and you're not going to be drooling over the stitching in everyone's clothing. Zombies are extra low polygon - they can't begin to compete with Zombie Army, but the larger number makes up for it. (Hundreds.) And again, you're not going to want to get close. @paul1979uk20002 жыл бұрын
It's not so much that, it's just that most developers don't have much of an incentive to push too hard on the Switch, after all, there's a big reason developers wanted the consoles to be x86 and that's because it streamlines the porting process over both the PS and Xbox console as well as the PC, basically, a lot of the same tricks and optimizations work on all 3 platforms whereas the Switch is very different and needs more work. PC/Xbox and PS will always get more attention because it's a much bigger install base and it's likely easier to work on them because they've got more power to play with, throw in that the Steam Deck is selling well and is competing in the same areas as the Switch whiles being x86, it's easy to understand why most either skip the Switch or don't put that much effort into it, that could get much worse for Nintendo if the Steam Deck really ramps up in sales because developers don't really have to do much on that as it's more or less running the PC port of the game. Truth be told, Nintendo needs to release a new Switch because the current one is really dated.

The art design of the game clearly has a lot of work put into it that makes it not bad at all when you dial back the graphics somewhat. Makes me think how we're missing some games that ran perfectly on 7th gen consoles and had impecable art direction like Dark Souls 2 does for instance. They could re release SOTFS for Switch and it would be a perfect match. Maybe the Switch's advantage over 7th gen can even push 60fps on that game, which is incredibly well optimized!

The Tegra chip is an ARM based SoC, yes? I wonder if all these Triple A game Nintendo Switch ports (and the work that's gone into them) means we'll see some titles like this pop up on Near-Future smartphones.
@Yodagamer12 жыл бұрын
They could be on phones now if they wanted to, but the phone market tends to favor free to play games over AAA. Very few developers would dare to put the money into porting a game into a paid iphone/android game now days.

Well, the chip used in this is pretty much the same shit the was used in the Nvidia shield. And in Asia, their version of the shield came with Mario Galaxy installed

All the high end phones from the last few years are far more powerful than the Switch.

Now just imagine if we had a bloody updated/upgraded Switch Pro/2!! Clearly the modern QC/MTK chips (8cxG3, G3X G1/8+G1, D9000+/8100, etc) are much much faster, the only thing that's key is the devs!!

Why not just drop the resolution to 900p and keep the shadows + some other stuff there?
@Judie-Nator2 жыл бұрын
Damn, this is extremely impressive! Except for the shadows, it looks extremely close to the ps4 version
@memedealer10522 жыл бұрын
The resolution is good but the game looks very flat without ssao. I think it would have been better it they kept it at a resolution cost.
@spht9ng2 жыл бұрын
I'd rather those cuts than having to run the game at 360p like Doom lol
@memedealer10522 жыл бұрын
@@spht9ng I agree but ssao usually has barely any impact on performance. I can't be sure but I guess at worst the resolution would have been around 10% lower in average with ssao on. Which still is 720p in handheld for the vast majority of time.

Just bought it because it is on sale in germany. it is amazing how it looks/plays. I was surprised and i would say it is a better port than world war z. Strange Brigade was also a great port.
@nicholasrockstroh69202 жыл бұрын
Tbh, the lack of dynamic shadows really hurts visually. I get that it was a necessary cutback to achieve a solid 30 fps, but it's still a big loss.
@nicholasrockstroh69202 жыл бұрын
Obviously the performance loss which would have come with having 80 - 100 zombies all casting dynamic shadows would have been a problem, but I'm curious what the effect would be of introducing some low-res dynamic shadows culled pretty close to the player.

Even if there was a Switch Pro, I doubt it would be more powerful than a PS4 Pro so the problems with porting Current Gen games (I mean true NextGen games) would still exist.

@livinlikeeli67852 жыл бұрын
Fortnite on Switch uses UE5 and it runs quite well! If it can from the powerful Series X to the lower spec Switch, I'm sure a new Switch would fare well with it!
