I love your overviews on the topics on horus heresy. As a Toasterfan and -player I'm happy to see so much mechanicum in your vids. I noticed a little error however, deep strike does only affect the amount of reinforcement points needed for counter assault, so only when you come in from the sides.

Finishing this up, but the "option pool" you're talking about has a useful MtG term for this, a sidebaord. It's a really cool thing about this new version, where you can have your main army, but then have some extra points in the game for a few different kinds of options to choose from for what to use your reinforcement points on. I don't know how many points you can really get into a game fully over the turns, but that's the added flexibility of "larger" games.

RaW the Augury scanner doesnt grant Intercept in ZM as the units are not arriving from 'Reserves' and ZM prohibits units from being placed in reserves. They arrive from 'Reinforcements'

hey mate: page 187 says you may only use interceptor reactions against units arriving from the reinforcements rule (implying you can use it) or do you mean specifically augury scanner based intercept?

So there's an interesting RAW vs RAI argument about jumpacks in ZM games with ceilings. The rule about them says that you can't use jumpacks that let models "set their Movement Characteristic to any value", so obviously that rules out the packs that say you count their move as 12 or 14 or whatever. But some packs, like the mechanicum Thallax, have a jumpack that says to increase their move by +6, adding to the movement value but not setting it to one which means that RAW the Thallax would be able to use their jumpacks. Obviously it's nit picky and rules lawyer-y, but worth mentioning.

ZM used to feel like a great intro into HH. Like it was made for 1000-1500 point games to build up a small force to play there while working on getting to 3k. Do you think it can still fill that purpose, but with the added bit of allowing more points to be used for more of a sideboard of reinforcements?

Ye mate 100%, imo it all works at lower points levels (I’m actually maybe controversially a big fan of heresy at 1000-1500 pts anyway, but I know people love 3k)

On the subject of "shooting units aren't good". I think perhaps including one shooting unit in your army has utility. Bring something strong longer range weapons lascannons, autocannons, plasma cannons, ect ect. Make sure your positioning is correct, and use them to pressure key objectives or rooms. Fire through your own squads. And make your opponents choose between backing off and giving ground, or standing and losing men too shooting, and then get charged. Iron Havocs could be a good choice since they reduce enemies cover saves right? Does this sound useful to you guys??

If your on the defensive certainly (as the pressure is on the enemy much more, and with a scanner can blow away incoming squads) Certain legions aswell I suppose, dark angels with interptors, death guard with any HS, I give tyrants a go to just have em stomp about and lock areas down More data needed as always! I’d say it’s still forming thoughts of it

Here's a thing, terrain isn't difficult or dangerous in ZM, it's debris or hazerdous. They work basically the same way as the other types, but they aren't those types. The biggest impact of this I've found is charging through debris. Normally no one cares because everyone has frag grenades, but frag grenades only work on dangerous terrain. So if a marine charges through debris, they will be fighting a initiative step 1.

Wait… wait… this is absolutely mental It’s even got that caveat on the next page that makes it seem this is intentional?! Will start trying it (I suppose it may be they regret having the I1 charging into terrain rule being that fucking everyone can ignore or doesn’t care about it

I agree that pride is the optimal option for a list but if you're only taking the most effective options you're missing the point of Horus Heresy as a community driven Narrative game. Thematic options and having a 2 player engaging game is far better for the longevity and fun of the game.

100% agree mate; tbh it’s hard to do a guide without sort of focussing on “optimal” things I may start doing a bit in each for sub optimal but fun/narrative ideas (it’s something I’ve tried to work on in newer guides like the generic astartes stuff)

@@BearfootMiniatures Yeah as a generic guide it's what's good and what's not but as a specific Legion theme or as was said about RoW theming to incorporate options that fit those Legions/RoW or Commander's is of great interest. 😁

I really dislike that reinforcement costs are tied to force org slots. It punishes you for not taking a rite that makes your special units troops, and it it equates units of vastly different power levels for no reason. Additional individual HQs also cost way too much.

Ye mate 100% agree, potentially needs to be simply based on the unit and there being an excell doc (which is a shame they haven’t as it’s such a good system concept)
