The Tascam seemed to pick up a room tone a bit more than the Zoom F6 did. It was hard to hear the difference, but when I put on my studio headphones I could hear it.

First, thanks for the comparison. I’m DR-60D user and wondering about the F6, so your insights would be appreciated. My intuition is that the F6 is huge step up, but I’m not entirely sure what your conclusions are. A few suggestions: 1. I’d suggest loudness normalizing these, if you haven’t already. 2. Also, it would be nice to either upload the files somewhere so we can take a look at them or at least provide some analysis of the files (e.g. noise floors, etc.). 3. Rather than just asking us whether we could conclude from this brief comparison, it also would be useful to get your sense of the pros and cons, as someone coming from the DR-60D. It seems like you might be able to provide really useful real world insights on how the preamps, limiters, etc., feature set compare, something that is hard for us to deduce on the basis of this video. Regardless, thanks for the video.

I've been using the Tascam DR-60D for a while as well. Including on a feature film. I like it a lot. But, what sells me on the Zoom F6 is the 32-bit float recording. I haven't had too many issues with audio clipping, yet. But, just knowing I can record audio with the ability to avoid clipping is quite a feat in itself. And the F6 sounds less "bass-y" to me.

Sound signature is different. Tascam sounds smoother and more natural than zoom. Some frequencies are more emphazied in zoom while tascam not. That’s why the room tone could also be heard in tascam. The differences would led to a different treatment in eq editing. This have nothing to do with self noise. If we want to compare self noise, we should compare f6 with tascam portacapture.😅

I just got the Zoom F3 after many years using the DR60d MkII that I really like. I did a similar test trying to keep everything but the recorders as equal as possible recording simultaneous takes of various sounds and I am hard pressed to hear much difference. Here is the test if anyone is interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmazY2qLiM6ql7Msi=91TqceorJbAaCfJo

The sound quality is not going to be that different... I would like to know about the features.

Listening here on Shure srh440 headphones, Zoom f6 has less noise and has a more warm sound, little boost on the lowend; tascam sounds little shallow in comparison, but the mids and high end makes voice sound crisp,some people will find it even harsh especially compared to the f6. Thanks for the comparison!!!

I hear the opposite: Zoom F6 recording sounds thinner (yet more detailed), while Tascam recording sounds more bassy.

If you simply adjust the volume using headphones on a MAC by one click using Sony MDR-7506's - its the same. Zoom is just quieter than Tascam by one apple click. Im not sure where this experiment could have been made more neutral. Thoughts?

DR-60D sounds louder to me, are they in same gain level?
@hervechrissindayigaya51593 жыл бұрын
That's my observation as well. We have more room on DR wich be be caused buy level of the gain. If so, it's an unfair comparison

I think it's maybe not louder but a little short on dynamic range so it can easily clip the audio. Given that Zoom f6 can go up to 32bit it helps to really achieve smooth audio levels even if you shout.
