Excellent lighting Carlos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have one question: The original H4n had one major issue. The XLR inputs was too "hot" for a line level signal (a sound mixer for example). Most people added an adapter/attenuator to solve this which is something that I don't like. In the Zoom H5 they added -20db pad so you can have some headroom to play with. Is it there on the new H4n pro? Thanks for your time, Panos.

Carlos thank you for the video, I have a different question, love your shot, which slider are you using on this video?

I used the RedrockMicro One Man Crew Studio on this video. Thanks!

That is nice, any recommendation you have for a more affordable one? and thanks for the return.

As long as your camera and accessories are not too heavy the Rhino Gear slider would do the trick.

I have a camcorder I am using right now, not even a dslr so that will work great for me. Thank you so much Carlos.

Hi, thank you for the video! What settings do you use to record from lav and shotgun mics on 2 separate tracks? Do you use the 4 channel mode? Thank you!

My h4n pro has a very loud noise floor. And not only when I monitor with the headphone. Something must be wrong. What can i do?

Thanks for a great video! Have you tried using it as an interface to the computer? I've seen lots of nice reviews/demos of the H4n Pro as a standalone unit but I'm curious about how it would work connected to the computer.

Quick Question. Regarding the 1/2 link question. Yesterday I connected ONE MICROPHONE and then chose #1. However. After hearing the sound on my headphones. The sound was much higher on my left speaker than my right speaker. What did I do wrong? Should I have LINKED and put the setting to on? Or should I have adjusted the recording level for both?

Was wondering why my sound seemed noisy from the headphone jack when listening while recording.

As others have said, seriously nice looking video! I was thinking of picking one of these up, primarily for recording in an interview setup or perhaps some smaller concerts. Mostly just for fun, not my job or anything. Anyway, I thought one use case was to have the H4n basically act as an external microphone that inputs into the DSLR mic input. This would avoid the need to synchronize audio with video in post, right? But one of your critiques was around the headphone/line output sound quality - wouldn't that output be used for that particular use case, and therefore make it not a good idea? It definitely seems odd that they wouldn't have a decent headphone output for monitoring / verifying your levels on the go. Thanks for the video!

The output signal on the headphone amp is clean as long as you don't increase the volume past 40 or so...which would allow for a nice clean signal to go directly into your camera. Your challenge on the other hand is getting the microphone close enough to the source and then running a cable that will not pick up static or distortion back to the camera. 10-12 inch run works best more than 3 feet and you will start having some interference related issue (depending on the cable and surface that it is laying on). Thanks for the nice comments!

I noticed a strange thing with my h4n pro. When I have phantom power on, the recorder sets a limit of -6 db. This essentially becomes 0 db, and anything that gets up to -6 db will have the clipping sound and will in fact be clipped. The limiter is not on. Without the phantom power on (using self-powered mics or plug-in powered mics) it allows the sound to get to 0 db (not that I would want it that high), and sound at -6 db will not clip. This phenomenon pretty much spoiled a couple of interviews I did today. I saw that the sound was not getting to 0 db and thought all was well. Even in my audio editor the sound never rose above -6 db, but anything at - 6 db was clipped. And there was clear evidence that the recorder was limiting the sound to - 6 db, never allowing the signal to rise higher than this. In other words, -6 db becomes the new 0 db with phantom power turned on! What gives?

The limiter is not on. I don't know where I can find the attenuator. But I just figured one thing out. This phenomenon happens only when I have mono mix turned on. When I turned off mono mix, the recording levels went all the way to 0 db. Must be a Zoom thing!

Pre amps on h4n pro are same as in h5 and h6 six, so why the complain????!
@carlosq006 жыл бұрын
didn't mean to complain - at the time I didn't know better and it took a few years to figure out that it was the headphone pre-am that was giving me the hiss...so the time I spent trying to correct my audio chain and money on better microphones was part of my learning curve. Now that I know better, I don't use zoom products.
