@@MatthiasKnorrMusic I have at a Jimmy Chamberlin clinic two years back. I was able to not only talk to Jimmy about my favorite album Gish, but he graciously let me play his kit. Which I'm sure you know is a Phoenix PHX. He has an incredibly unique set up. Which made for playing his kit even that more amazing. Best to you in your future music career, and if you currently are in a band or done studio work I'd like to hear it. 🥁

Killer sound! I've had a heck of a time with cameras and lighting - not my area of expertise, that's for sure. Ended up putting my cheap DSLR on a music stand with a foam cube beneath it to keep the kick drum from shaking it. Tried a GoPro 8 but the fisheye just doesn't work well in the studio.
@MatthiasKnorrMusic4 жыл бұрын
thank you, yes that is one important, if not the most important factor when shooting videos - the lighting. I learned it through experimenting and my friend recommended to try some LED lights. Much better results now. I will not shoot without them anymore.

Nice video and really nice sound on the drums. I have a couple questions though. What lighting are you using? Is the Zoom camera now your go to camera? Are your toms totally open (no muffling)? Are you tuning for a specific note? Also, how are you tuning your toms (top head vs bottom head - they sound great)? Snare sounds great too - how is it tuned? Thanks!!! Keep up the great work!
@MatthiasKnorrMusic4 жыл бұрын
the lights are two "Yongnuo Yn360" led lights that are setup behind me on each side of the kit, the front light is a "Bresser CB-68A Bi-Color Flexible LED" and my room light above the kit. That is one very weak thing about the Zoom Cameras - you need lots(!!!) of light to get noise free footage. In low light this camera is not good. That is why I will replace it someday with a better camera. For Toms I use a little buit of muffling by putting some Skygel Damper Pads on them and the floortoms have a bit of cotton wool inside to reduce the gumball effect. I tune my kit by ear and mostly the interval between the Toms is a perfect 4th. The top & bottom heads are tuned a 4th apart sa well (reso is higher than the top head). And of course I try to get an equal result between each lug so the head I am tuning is in tune with itself. Snare: resohead tabletop tight, top head in relation to the 10" tom (mostly a 4th apart as well). In some studio sessions I do I even tune to the key of the song sometimes. I hope this helps a bit. Maybe I do a short Video about it someday ;-) - Cheers, Matthias

@@MatthiasKnorrMusic Thanks so much for the reply. I'm not quite ready to post videos so camera and lighting will have to wait for some money before I can do that but it helps to know what people are using. I've heard Dave Weckl say for toms he goes for a minor third between top head and bottom head with the bottom one being tighter. I guess it's all about managing those overtones. Snare sounds great too.... Time for me to do some more experimenting. Thanks again for your response.

Matthias - great playing, and a great demo on the camera! I use the same camera, and it seems that whatever the settings, I get a whole lot of grain in both the live and recorded image, even after denoising it in Handbrake. Do you have any advice on how to eliminate grain? Thanks!
@MatthiasKnorrMusic3 жыл бұрын
@HLeyes thanks for watching. For best results the camera needs quite a bit of light. In the studio I use two Yongnuo YN360 RGB-LED lights for backlighting the drums a BRESSER CB-68A (in front of the kit) and the room light as an overhead light. So when there isn’t enough lights on stage the Zoom is not the greatest cam unfortunately.

Wie konntest Du mit dieser Kamera das Bildrauschen so gut reduzieren oder entfernen?
@MatthiasKnorrMusic Жыл бұрын

that's right. It's NOT an amazing quality for 4k resolution. But this thing only costs 230€. For quick recordings it's ok but of course it's not suited for a high quality film/video production.

bad camera horrible video sometimes so disappointed with this camera add a big light but no miracles
@MatthiasKnorrMusic4 жыл бұрын
right, unfortunately it's not a professional camera. I mainly see it as a Audio-Device with a built in webcam. And a lot of light is needed to get a good result. Plus I don't use the "Auto" Scene anymore because sometimes the camera changes to a bad exposure and ruins the footage.
