The average boomer has never used a type writer, technology didn't go from everyone using a typewriter to everyone using a computer. Only very select people ever touched a typewriter, unless you were a woman in an office or someone with a writing career you never even looked at a typewriter...

Have you ever used a typewriter? The keys have lots of resistance making it hard to type with multiple fingers aswell as the fact that the stamps get stuck on each other if you press keys at the same time

You can't really say they got it wrong considering a typewriter looks like a keyboard and a printer mashed together (because it essentially is) so logically you'd operate the printer half like a printer and the keyboard half is self explanatory You'd need actual previous firsthand experience with a typewriter to know that it actually feeds the way the boomer showed which no younger person will have since it's been obsolete tech since the 80s

I remember when I was 7 or 8, our house had this really old typewriter, still had ink in it. I did my best trying to figure how it worked, and eventually I got the paper in but still had trouble forming paragraphs. Vintage items like these really fascinate me, I may just be the world's youngest boomer. At age 19, started from age 7 already old af. edit: after I graduate from a college of literature I'm definitely gonna write my manuscripts off of a vintage typewriter. If I find one and ink for it.
