The Mihawk Marineford downplay doesn't even make since. It wasn't Mihawk's arc. His entire purpose was solely to mess with Luffy, have others step in to protect Luffy, and then deliver a speech saying Luffy's attraction is the most powerful force in the seas. After that plotline concluded, Mihawk disappeared into the background. All of Mihawk's interactions in Marineford was centered around him being a lone wolf witnessing others protect their comrades. Not a single struggle or uneasy face.

The problem with people assuming that shanks has special haki abilities is that people only assume that possibility for shanks and not mihawk

That's because the possibility is worth exploring in the first place to create a way for Shanks being stronger to mesh with Mihawk's title still making sense. If Mihawk is just stronger than we don't really need to explore any additional abilities outside of swordsmanship for either of them. And Mihawk's focus in the story is as him being a swordsman. That's like his entire point. Shanks isn't really built around that.

Robin got a crazy bounty bc WG is now assessing the possibility of her leading the crew to laugh tale and knowing all kinds of stuff. Recurirng theme is that SHs are consistently overlooked and down the priority list which is likely why she was never near a billion. She was previously a child on the run and Baroque Works was a cabal in alabasta My issue is that characters still wont acknowledge them as much as they should, or at the very least the 4 top combatants

There is no way Shanks is just a swordsman. He absolutely has to have something more otherwise he is definitively weaker than Mihawk which makes the men Kaido considered to be the greatest an incomplete picture for no reason. Why would Kaido not consider Mihawk when re-evaluating Luffy's strength? Because Mihawk is not among the STRONGEST. Luffy needs to surpass Shanks, not Mihawk. Shanks is inarguably stronger than Mihawk if we're talking a 1v1 battle to the death. G5 Luffy could arguably take Mihawk right now.

While I share the belief that Mihawk is a stronger swordsman but Shanks is a stronger haki master, and that will edge him over Mihawk, I don't think Kaido not having Mihawk in his top 5 is a good indicator. For example, Kaido didn't have Big Mom in his top 5, yet he had Oden, and we know for a fact that if Kaido's strength is a 10, Big Mom is AT LEAST a 9, so why wouldn't he have her there? Also, Maido had Rocks and Roger and WB there, but didn't have Garp, who was Roger's equal. He also didn't have Sengoku, who was also in the same tier as Garp, Roger and WB. That's probably because they are Marines and it wouldn't make sense for Kaido to have them there, yet we know for a fact Garp is literally on equal footing with Roger. So my point is, those not mentioned in Kaido's top 5 are not automatically weaker than Kaido. It could be that Kaido never caught Mihawk, and therefore never gauged his strength, whereas we know he at least clashed with Shanks once.

It is so funny that Shanks fans are the ones creating the non sword mess, saying we don't know how Shanks fight, when Mihawk has shown he can swing sword anyhow he want, he was jumping on his sword . Zoro is a swordsman but he does use punch or kick if he needs to. Shanks don't have a DF, and he is one handed, what he gonna do? hand to hand combat? Even if BB kills him, these guys will say Shanks was gonna do a special tongue move but BB killed him before that.

So to be clear to people, the word "swordsman" in Mihawk's title blatantly refers to swordsmanship. The word "strongest" is qualifying and comparing sword ability, not the men themselves. The story context tying this to Zoro also supports this.

Zoro is not yet admiral level or PK level. Ray and the rest all beat Zoro as he is. Law is debatable in a straight up fight but loses as a swordsman. Edit: I meant Yonko instead of PK. Also, I doubt Zoro could handle all the Scabbards at once like Greenbull did. He's far from that level.

What do you mea as a swordsman ? He is a swordsman and that's all there is no an usual fight, a swordsman fight. Law uses his fruit combined with his sword. If he loses to Zoro he loses there is no as a swordsman, as a fighter.

I really don’t understand the logic Morj uses to deal with the Mihawk & Shanks debate. We’ve already seen that Nusjuro is a mythical demon horse that has underworld ice powers and guess what… he is still a swordsman. Zoro is a swordsman’s swordsman and he can manifest two extra heads and six extra swords into reality from aura(?) - still a swordsman. What could Shanks possibly have that completely negates him being classed as a swordsman? Would he have to manifest 10 extra heads instead? Shanks’ focus is haki, any special ability he could have from that is still way more swordsman-like than Zoro or Nusjuro’s powers. Also the polls he ran show it’s way simpler to believe Mihawk is stronger, rather than running into inconsistencies by thinking Shanks is stronger.

Don't forget that Kaku still is a swordsman despite using his giraffe body for half his moves and incorporating the Six Powers in the other half. To me that will always be the funniest example of how flexible Oda actually is with proclaiming someone a swordsman, no matter how expansive their skill set might be.

He never said Shanks might have abilities that stop him from being classified as a swordsman, he said Shanks might have abilities BEYOND swordsmanship that would allow him to win in a fight against Mihawk. V. Nasjuro is a swordman right? Well even if he fights Mihawk and loses at swordsmanship against Mihawk, it's possible he'd still win the fight because his DF seemingly makes him immortal. So yes he's a swordsman, but there's a power he possesses BEYOND swordsmanship that gives him an edge in power. That's the same with Shanks. We all agree that if there is just a pure sword fight, Migawk wins. How easily? It's likely extreme high diff, but Mihawk would still win. However, it's a general fight where you can use every trick up your sleeve, maybe Shank's haki is powerful enough that he can do haki attacks beyond using a sword and beat Mihawk. That is a possibility. That's all Morj was saying

@@what7530 That’s not how it works. Even if Nusjuro uses other abilities and techniques he is still primarily a swordsman. Zoro can summon extra body parts and he is still primarily a swordsman. These abilities simply enhance their primary fighting style - which is swordsmanship. Who’s to say Mihawk doesn’t have anything similar? Even if Shanks has additional abilities, he is still primarily a swordsman and will lose to Mihawk. If Mihawk’s title was “most skilled at sword fighting only” then your point might have made sense but his actual title is “The world’s strongest swordsman” which means he is the strongest of those classified as swordsmen and it doesn’t mean he is necessarily only the best at swordplay.
