In this video we snag some Channellock products to add to the work cart...we get an upgraded classic and one I was unaware they even had in the catalog!
Time Stamp and Links
@0:00 Intro and Recap
@0:36 An American Classic
-The Channellock 909 is, in my opinion, a must own.
--They are just a simple and effective tool to cut and crimp, all-in-one
@1:45 Capacitor Crimps
-Realized how worn the crimpers were and resolved to snag an upgrade
@3:03 Channellock 909CB $27.67

@4:18 Side-by-Side 909 vs 909CB
@5:32 Head Profile
@6:57 Channellock 318CB Update
-Still a great pair of pliers that never leaves the bench!
@7:25 Channellock 612TS 12" Tin Snips, $19.17
-Be honest...did you know Channellock had tin snips?
--I have never even seen these on an in-store display
---These were fractions of the price of what I wanted from KC Tool
----The shipping envelope almost offsets the savings
@9:59 The Reveal!
@11:00 Painted Handles at Work
-I've told this story before, but if you will be making more than 2-4 cuts at a time, get tin snips with a good handle! The bare metal handles are brutal for repeat cuts
@11:49 Stanley Fat Max
-Years ago, when I realized my HF set couldn't function after a few cuts, I upgraded to some Stanley Fat Max...I got the 3 Piece Set AND a big set like this...they have been pretty solid
@12:25 Tool Highlights
@1320 Packing Fuzz
-Again, those envelops suck and should not be used

Been around since the 1800s and still run by the same family today, not only do they make tin snips but I'd bet most people would be surprised that they even make fence pliers.

Yeah, there are a couple of oddities in there that are completely under the radar.

The baked enamel finish is killer! 80s packaging is pretty sweet, lol. Thanks and glad the vintage Gedores have been good for you!

If I'm not mistaken the code blue grips themselves used to be imported ? I don't really know for sure , but about a year ago somebody on a forum was telling me about how disappointed they were that they had to stop buying Channellock pliers because they're made in China now. This isn't actually a tool forum though, so all these other members who aren't exactly tool guys took his word for it and next thing you know you had people coming in talking about how the HF doyle brand was better because they're cheaper and probably made in the same Chinese factory. Thankfully I showed up with proof to set the record straight, and as it turns out the guy assumed Channellock tools were all Chinese because he bought a set of the C-B screwdrivers which as you know are made in China. I personally don't like the code blue line myself, because I'm not a fan of these bulky type handles and the color scheme just makes me think of Spiderman. I've had the tin snips on my list awhile, I think they have 2 different sizes. A couple years ago I did a deep dive on their website / digital catalog and decided I'd like to try and get one of everything for the most part. They have some in between sizes of the tongue and grooves that I'm not buying because they're only 1/2" difference, but otherwise I want to basically have every pair of pliers & cutters they make. You'll only see a fraction of what Channellock makes at most hardware stores, but maybe distributors and supply houses are different. You'll never see their rescue tool, the 357 & 358 are probably the only end nippers you'll see even though they make a large farriers style too. They make way more than most people realize.

Yeah, it is amazing how quick bad information can spread. It doesn't help when people don't stop and do their own research before jumping on the bandwagon. The grips could be imported, but the packaging would lead me to believe it is all done here. I much prefer the classic Channellock blue, but the Code Blue grips have their place. Channellock's dipped handles are one of the few that I actually like. Every other brand I tend to prefer comfort grip, or the textured grips, even though they are harder to clean. In a dream world, the Code Blue handles would be tweaked, but I can live with it...I get you on the Superman/Spiderman vibes though. I'd venture to guess the inspiration was Red, White, and Blue, but the shading is kind of off to convey that. Yep, the Code Blue drivers are imported...they don't try to hide that fact, still have American made drivers, but the way the Code Blue overlaps is 100% where I believe the confusion sets in for most people. In college I would get out of class and run a lot of the pickups...displays vary widely, but like you said...it is pretty much the same few tools over and over with little deviation. It would be nice to see a small store, or even a national chain spice it up with a more elaborate and inclusive display, but that would cut down on the imported red and yellow stuff. That is a really cool idea...should be very useful to boot. The Channellock blue really pops off a black drawer liner.

@@lonestarmopars There are some places that carry more than most retailers, but not many. DoIt best stores and some Tractor supply locations carry a few more of the pliers plus the screwdrivers and pry bars which most places don't carry. There's also a well known place which I've seen a video tour of on KZbin, it may be Monroe Hardware that I'm thinking of ( I know they're a great place either way ) Anyways the place is old very big and very well known, it's like a dream world and truly the greatest hardware store I've ever seen. At the time they had a large selection of S•K, a full range of WILDE, more Channellock than I'd ever seen in a hardware store before, a lot of knife displays, a full selection of hickory tool handles, you name it. They're the kind of place a guy could happily die in. If I didn't have a very strong desire to never intentionally go any place that I can't carry a pocket knife I'd be more of the traveling type, and would make it a mission to visit that place before the last of the great American hand tool manufacturers are gone.

Channellock absolutely needs to make their own copy of the Knipex pliers wrench design! If the patent has expired and Gedore, SK, Harbor Freight (ICON), and another German company I think that is named “White” can copy the design, then why not Channellock! It would be made in the USA, as well - with Chanellock’s excellent lifetime warranty. What are they waiting for!?

They've got the Speedgrip that has some pretty cool touches. They are, sadly, kind of under the radar. That said, they are also sporting some traditional jaws just like classic tongue & groove pliers. And thus, I share your sentiment that I'd love to see a Channellock based pliers wrench. Those things are incredibly handy and there are still a lot of people unaware they exist. Icon sort of opened a few more eyes, but having an American made offering at a killer price point would be a big deal!

Those tin snips are rebranded & USA made....I don't know who the OEM is but I still have my USA. Craftsman 12" snips ( from 30 yrs ago) that are Identical except they have rough black gripsl!

If that is the case, it might be Wiss. I'm not sure who else is left that makes that stuff here. I believe I remember the rough black grips...I want to say they are close to the Stanley Fat Max I got. Glad to hear you've gotten such good life out of them! Any grip, or padding at all is a good thing. The ones at work are great, provided you are just palletizing something. When I cut down a full sheet, it was painful.
