My mother was Austrian with her family coming from Tobaj, Austria - near Hungary. She would make plum dumplings at Christmas along with Nussen Strudel and Cresent cookies. Many of these desserts crossed borders across Polish, Czech, German, Austrian, and Hungarian cultures (and likely others). Brings back great memories of magical Christmas Holidays long since past.

My grandmother was also from Austria (Numbers) and she taught me how to make plum dumplings 35 years ago. We never use cinnamon, just sugar. In Chicago, Italian plums are only available at the beginning of September so, we make them and freeze them and they are incredibly delicious.

Coming from Austria, my grandmother used to make this with apricot or plums. I prefer the apricot version. My brother and I used to have an eating competition, who could eat more of them after coming home from school. I could smell them on my way into the house. One of my favourite dishes ever! I am glad I found this video. Thank you Oma! I will surprise my daughter with this - she absolutely loves it too, and I have not made this in a very long time.

My family was from Gant, in Hungary...my grandmother always made these when we visited her in New Jersey on Long Beach Island. Also made apple and potato strudel...stretching the dough paper thin, covering the kitchen table before rolling up. FYI..she also worked in a bakery in Vienna, before moving to the U.S. Love your videos, and your accent...reminds me of her.
