Bravo! One of the greatest 4th horn parts ever written. I was asked to play this in Bonn Germany some years back. The conductor was overjoyed because I didn't hold back on the volume. Although I switched to Alexander horns, I played this with a Conn 8D.🎉

wish i had come across this video earlier! i had to play this excerpt for a couple of college prescreens, especially challenging to get a nice low tone with not-so-great microphone.

I've had the pleasure of accompanying some hornists who played this concerto, and it's quite a fine piece of music, and very difficult for the soloist. Ms. Tryon performed this brilliantly.

I like to belt this out on my old D horn. It has a huge 14" bell, came with a very large mouthpiece with an oversized shank and a 20.5 mm cup. It's a very old German-made horn, don't know who the maker was. It's a cinch he's dead by now.

Hey, I’m starting to audition for bands and I find exerts like this in E-flat, do I need to transpose it to F or play it in E-flat
@DeniseTryon
@DeniseTryon 2 жыл бұрын
You need to transpose it to Eb, so read it down a whole step from where it is written.

Wow! Was looking for something to help with this excerpt and this is wonderful! My daughter (16 years old) gets her first opportunity to play with our local Symphony next week and she's Horn 7 which also includes this excerpt. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You've been a big help.

For this excerpt, is dotted quarter = 90BPM good or should I think about this in 2 since it’s 6/8?
@DeniseTryon
@DeniseTryon 3 жыл бұрын
The tempo Beethoven wrote is dotted quarter = 104, and even though some of his tempos are really off, this one is good. And if you are thinking dotted quarter, you are thinking of this is 2. There are 2 dotted quarters per measure. I hope this helps.
