Hi we rented to the council on a full repairable contact and after five years when the contract was up the house was trashed cost £10k to get it to a rentable standard which they only offered 2k towards . The contract was to hand it back as the same standard they got it . the only option was to take the council to court but we don't have the same finances as the council do and the court costs might have been higher than the debt owed. this was many years ago and now we own a lot of rentals and get offered lots of different deals by the council to rent to them(sometimes with substantial grants) but the trust has gone.thanks John.

The government should totally ban buy to let. This is hidden slavery where tenants constantly live in uncertain fear and landlords enjoy life at the expense of their tenant and when the going gets thought they just increase the rent.

Will your investor leave 40k in this deal? Or is there a plan to refinance and pull any money out? I’ve heard some lenders require higher LTV if it’s rented to social housing, supported living a bit of an unknown for me.

Social housing is definitely an untapped strategy, it’s something I want to explore as well.

Here in the United States, we have a federal program for lower income residents called Section 8 programs. and there is a lottery, or you wait for your# to be called. , and it's similar to yours, but's inspected annually, and the lease's only year to year. The tenent pays 30% of their income, and the government pays the rest of an average rental rate. 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑 Way to go!!

I know it’s normal in the UK, but it still seems so strange to me that ya’ll put the washing machine in the kitchen. It just seems unsanitary to put it in the area where you cook.

The way to avoid the landlord taking back the property is to: 1. rent from a landlord who has multiple properties, they are far less likely to sell than a landlord with just 1 property 2. a landlord who has owned the property for a long time (they would have loads of opportunities to sell but they chose not to 3. an institutional / corporate landlord rather than an individual

Lia, I was looking at cruises that I can't afford right now (I do this often lol) and I saw that P&O does a circumnavigation of the British Isles! On one of their UK flag ships, the Britannia. Flag is very important, because a lot of cruise ships are "flag of convenience", they register her in a 3rd world country so they don't have to pay (in this case) British wages to the crew, and train them and treat them according to British standards (and pay British taxes). But P&O has three ships that are registered in the UK, Ariva, Iona and Britannia, and the circumnavigation is on the Britannia. I'm not sure if it is only this year and next year, for their anniversary, or if they do it every year. It's 14 days, they start at Southampton and go up north around the northern shore of Scotland and through Northern Ireland and end in Cork, Republic of Ireland. 🙂 But I was wondering, have you guys ever thought of doing a group Property Couple cruise around the UK, perhaps you could get a group discount from P&O? 🙂 Also, I thought it would be funny if you guys started doing "reaction" videos on your personal channel, like if you watched Alien and showed us your live reactions. It's a scary movie and I've seen all the Alien movies 100 times, it's always funny to see new viewers jump at it lol. 🙂 Still impressed by all this stuff you guys do with the real estate, it's a lot of hard work! But it's probably rewarding to help people own their first home or get a good rental! 🙂
