We had a 79 ski nautique that my parents had when i was born in the 90's and we bought a 94 sport when i was about 10. We got rid of the 79 and my dad found it 15 years later at a consignment dealer. It was in really rough shape because it sat outside and he wanted 5k for it. I went and looked at it and all the freeze plugs were out and every summer I'd have the dealer call the guy and try to buy it. After about 4 years i finally talked him down to 2k and i was gonna pull the cash out and the dealer called me and told me that he didn't have the title so they couldn't sell it. There was a bunch of old paper work when we owned it that i wish i would have kept. Anyways it's always cool seeing someone restore them! I bought another 79 ski and my dad has a 83 ski and my older brother has a 2002 super Air. Nautiques are awesome boats!

Any recommendations for getting the Christmas tree studs to fit back in? I am having trouble with them.
@MakeSkiBoatsGreatAgainАй бұрын
I didn’t do the upholstery. I do know that any work I’ve ever done with Christmas tree studs doesn’t work unless you buy new ones.

Shouldn’t do your fiberglass like that you’re just carrying around a big ass mess. Put your resin on where you’re gonna put your fiberglass mat then put your fiberglass mat on it and then add a top layer of resin to it by rolling it in otherwise you’re just making a freaking mess everywhere.

I wish every older Ski Nautique had someone like you to find them and bring them back to life. They are truly amazing boats and become life long passions for many people. Your kids will remember this boat forever.

Hi, Great job on therestauration. I have a 87 aswell witch i am working on right now. I see you remounted the swimplatform, dit you work the original holes, or did you use other bigger bolts to mount it? Im afraid to use the same holes and bolts beacause it might break?

I didn’t rework them. With the marine caulk, it went back together just fine.

Those are such cool boats. Growing up at the family lake house in NC I was always jealous of the neighbors who had Ski Nautique's. My brothers and I had to settle for an old Starcraft.

The shaft coupling that has the square head bolts you tightened needs to be safety wired. That's why they have the hole drilled in the head of the bolt.

I've watched most of your videos, Great job on the boat. What roughly does it cost to get that upholstery replaced? I want to do the same thing, found a few good candidates to refit.
@Robertarcher20354 ай бұрын
Just a thought . To take care of the bend in the dash when fixing with 3 holes not just two , different washer ( grommets) thicknesses or differing amounts of washers would take care of this , rather then bending the base plate . Loved all your postings. Inspirational. All the best .

As a commercial floor cover I will say you did a fine job on carpet sir! As for those vinyl transitions (you call them tracks). You should be able to find those at a flooring supply house. Maybe try tools 4 flooring or Fishmans flooring.
