Great to hear your comments about the up & coming junior women riders & agree that those with an MTB or CX background, & there seem to be more & more each year, have a distinct advantage when it comes to skills over those who started road cycling later in life.

Tim mentioned that he wouldn't recommend sugar water for an event. I'd love to hear from him why, is it the glucose: fructose ratio (can be changed by adding more glucose), no sodium (can be changed by adding sodium in various ways), or is it something else?

Corkscrew AND Willunga should be on your agenda. Let us have a heads up on the days & times, & you'll have a HUGE group to accompany you. And speaking of Remco, I was doored 12 months ago, with 10 broken bones & 4 months off the bike. He got off lightly. :)

It's my understanding that when you're resting or have just eaten, insulin helps glucose enter your muscles. During exercise, your muscles can absorb glucose without insulin. This is because exercise increases your muscle's sensitivity to insulin, allowing it to use more insulin to absorb glucose. Exercise can also make your muscles more able to use glucose even when insulin isn't available. Glucose uptake during exercise, your muscles can absorb up to 100 times more glucose than when you're resting. This is due to a protein called glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4). If it's only possible as you say to absorb around 30-60, even up to 90grams of carbohydrates per hour, then I'm wondering what happens in the later stages of a longer race when you might end up empty, in an empty state or close to it, has there been any evidence that the body can absorb well above these levels during the empty state if given more?

Might be useful if you do races but for most people it's kinda pointless no? Even if you don't pay attention to whether foods contain illegal doses of certain substances it doesn't really matter if you don't compete

I had it backwards. I thought VO2 and anaerobic was late season and threshold was early season. Didn't realize it was implemented that early. Also nice to get confirmation that long threshold blocks are very fatiguing. Lot of good information here. This was one of the best vids on training I've seen. This masterclass series is really good Patrick.

One of the most illogical decisions by the UCI is this rule about the color of jerseys - illogical because it's completely unnecessary. There are already too many blue tones in the men's peloton and too many pink/purple in the women's. Now the UCI is further reducing the color options available for team kits.

Got to give parked cars a wide berth... Cycling 101. Never trust cars, humans are the weak link. Remco should if possible pass the van at an open doors width and driver should check mirrors b4 opening door... I'd like to know exact circumstances of accident and info can be used to educate drivers and cyclists.

I feel really bad for Remco. Stateside, we call it “getting doored.” It’s the third most common accident that happens to urban cyclists at least here in the US. I thought it’s much safer in Europe but I guess the “Dutch reach” is really only practiced in the Netherlands?
@AntiMatterDeathrayКүн бұрын
I hear people say that Europe is safer for cycling, but I’d be curious to see data on it. My cousin and his wife took a trip to Europe in the summer and did quite a bit of cycling. He said that while people are pretty courteous to cyclists, the roads are just so much narrower that he said it took several days to adjust to it and to feel comfortable riding on the roads in some areas. Lot of factors at play, he’s more of a mountain biker than a road cyclist, and where we live in Utah has really good cycle paths and most roads have bike lanes/big shoulders so maybe that’s why it was more uncomfortable for him.
