Very spot-on. Fuel before and during, that way you don't eat the entire house when you're not active... You can spot those people easily.

Loved this video Patrick, but there was a lot left unsaid about how the types and quantities of carbs mentioned translate into what foods us amateur cyclists might eat and how much. Speaking as a conscious eater who does not weigh out food, which I’m guessing is common. More examples of real foods and tangible quantities (rather than grams of glucose/fructose) would have been really helpful, but it’s still cool to hear about the science and theory too!

What a banger of an episode! It's not easy to make this sort of content interesting (the average pod listener might not be a keen cyclist) but I did like it

I use, as an example, from my hr/power meter data if my used calories is 2000 for a 4 hour ride. 2000/4 hours = 500/2 = 250 /4 = 62.5 grams per hour is this equation correct within the ball park?

What about people/influencers who claim that a low -carb diet (ex keto) also works for endurance sport?

If you eat too much protein, you become lymfatically stagnated bringing absorption down. Already a meme amongst pro's saying "back in the day, when cyclists use to eat meat".

Absorption vs tolerance. I know you commented on supplements at the end of the video, however aside from gut training etc. I’m curious about your thoughts around the use GDAs specifically when carbohydrate intake is high.

Pat, great informative interview, and clarification on what I have been experimenting with over the years and don’t ever bonk on long 4-5hr & longer endurance rides. 60-80gp/h 2:1 maltodextrin/fructose in bottle And water in another.👌🏽 Great episode drop!

To be faire to LDL Trek, they also lost a lot in the same crash than WVA before RVV... Mads was hurt, Stuyven collarbone, Hirsch also i think went down...

He's far to young to make any judgement on that already. At this young age those kids just have to try out as much as possible different disciplines... He does have a good TT and he's very good on hilly terrain, But he has never raced a real mountainstage when racing with the juniors, thus let's just wait and see a few more years until he's 22/23/24 of age... I tried to find some numbers on his weight, but couldn't find any yet.. His lenght is 1m84 which is about the same as Jorgenson from Visma-LAB who is also quite a big guy for a cyclist who can race a good GC. Most real GC riders are smaller and weigh less than 60kg. We will have to show a few years of patience before we can make any judgement on that, thus let's just enjoy whatever he does. ✌👌 But nobody can deny that he's a huge talent... We live in times that we have so much of these young super kids, that it has become impossible to predict who will be battling for which prizes in a few years from now. And I love it ❣💯😎 Myself I do see Del Toro and Christen as future Grand Tour winners who could also win classics, but it is maybe to early to talk about that now.

@@swissbiggy Aren't most top GC riders 60-65kg? Usually if they are under that, they are more suited as pure climbers/stage hunters imo (like Pidcock), barring exceptions like Jonas.

With no Olympics I think you've got to send Milan as their sprinter to the Giro and the Tour. Pedersen does the Tour and the Vuelta, leading out Milan in the former and going for the more dynamic stages, and then riding for his own results and the points jersey at the Vuelta.
