@@aHornetsNest We bought an Ardu Uno Rev3, a set of breadboard wires and a 3 way ON-ON-ON Switch. I am trying to configure all 3 positions of the switch to serve as the battery switch for F18 but im having trouble because the Bort code only uses 2 pins, as if meant for an ON-OFF-ON switch. Can you help me fix this?
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 7 күн бұрын
Hey mate! So you can still use use your switch as if it were an ON-OFF-ON Your switch has 6 pins, 2 columns of 3 pins each - and generally they’re named/labelled Terminal 1 (T1) to Terminal 6 (T6) -T1 T4 - -T2 T5 - -T3 T6 - T1 would connect to a digital input pin on your Arduino to read Position 1 T2 &T5 would connect to Ground (GND), connect one to GND then solder a little jumper cable across your the other pin T6 would connect to another Arduino digital pin to read position 3 D5 - -T1 T4 - -T2-T5 - - GND -T3 T6 - - D6 Its only if you wanted to connect it to your sim as a ON-ON-ON is where you’d need to be more deliberate with your wiring pattern And then once that’s all wired your should be able to follow the rest of the tutorial :) And if your switch is acting in reverse, switch the ‘variable’ numbers in the bios code. Also, it doesn’t matter the orientation of your switch, the principle still works the same :) but generally T1 starts in the top left corner when the switch is orientated with its registration key (little notch) in the mounting thread in the up position If that doesn’t work let me know 🫡🫡 It just means you have different switch and I’ll give you a new diagram

Great tutorials!!! Thank you very much! I've been using Leo Bodnar's joystick interfaces, but I'm thinking of switching to Arduino. My main concern is that since you set up every switch through DCS-BIOS for a specific plane (F-18), what happens if you want to fly another plane (F-5 or MiG-29)? Those modules won’t recognize your Arduino setup, right?
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 20 күн бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah that is a very valid concern, and it all comes down to how many extra modules you want to fly For me it will be just F-18 as a high fidelity sim, and then generally I’ll fly the UH-1 or UH-60 with a little bit of F-5 and for all of those I’ll probably just use the Hotas. But I do believe there is a way to write program with DCS Bios for multiple modules - and it will take info from the game and know what you’re flying

Hey mate! Thanks for the comment and great question 🫡 if I had to do it again and I had access to 3/4” (19.05mm) material I would use the 19mm The 18mm is fine… but there are moments where you see the 1mm gaps, such as when you use 1.5” screws per the build plan, but your two pieces of material equal just shy (by 2mm) so the tip of the screw sticks out - but other than that it all still works :)

Nice video man. But i have a question. how can i use your method for panels that are not really accessible through the Model viewers back camera position, like you explained it in your video, or the top view of the cockpit. For example the LED-Panel with the WarningLights in it. It is in every perspective very difficult to make a screenshot and re-draw the panel in a CAD-Software. But when i try to change the camera postion to get a better looking angle, youre still right what you said in your video, that the shape of the Panel will be warped. Maybe you can help me :). Thanks
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 21 күн бұрын
Hey that is a tricky one, the best I’ve been able to do is jump in game, and use something like TrackIR to take as “straight on” as I can screen shot. Panels are easy to do as their lengths and widths can be calculated using dzus lengths and widths Caution panels are a little harder - but can be scaled fairly accurately by using surrounding items, like screw heads, switch mounting threads etc What aircraft are you building

@@aHornetsNest Hey, thank you for your answer. I will also build a hornet :). I also have a question about Fusion itself. Maybe you can answer that. My problem is that after following your steps and cutting the text from body #1 (the top layer), my cuts don't appear white like it does in your case. In my case, I mark the text again and this time create objects from it, then I can color the objects. But that is very time intensive. How do you do that in your case?
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 17 күн бұрын
Nice one! So the way I mark my text into the paneling 1) make ‘body’ of object white with the appearance tool (A) 2) make ‘faces’ of object black, make sure the option that says something about apply to faces is selected, sometimes it reverts back to paining the body 3) then extrude (E) to cut the layer, depending on orientation.. if you type in a distance and it looks like it’s raising it off the body creating bumps, just add a - (negative) sign in front of the value to tell fusion to extrude the other way Some days I’ll forget to colour the body and faces first… then I’m left with the tedious job of colouring in each bit You can also hold Shift and select each face and colour them in one hit Hope this helps 👍🏼

Your content is amazing! My set keeps disconnecting from dcs bios…..Initially I thought it was a power issue to the usb ports and I have 2 x arduino nanos, and 1 x ELEGOO MEGA 2560. Seeing this video I’m gonna go test out adding the comm ports. Why is that required? When I initially boot up DCS bios it auto connects to the boards fine, but soon after I hear the usbs disconnecting and it won’t find the boards again. I’ll give this a try! Also wondering if it’s the rotary switches and I recently added.. maybe I’ve wired them up wrong and the voltage is kicking the boards off 😅

Im not going to lie, seeing these cockpits are really awesome and i want one so bad but seeing the work it takes to wire them up like on Warthog Project, it really made my anxiety freak out. See your resources really makes me feel more comfortable with the idea of getting it done someday.

Love the content. Could you make a guide on how to make gauges? Along with the coding for servos and stepper motors? That would be incredibly helpful for where I am in my build process. Love getting as much detail as you like to share in your videos.

Thanks mate! I think a gauge lesson will definitely be coming up I’m going to over time build all the standby instruments and I’ll start off with a nice simple gauge like the VSI or ASI Thanks for your support 🫡

Such a complete shame that this is not available to purchase as a kit. I’m looking at some pretty expensive prebuilt options, but I certainly would like to have different method of doing this. I just don’t have the time or the tools to do it myself.

@aHornetsNest Ай бұрын
That’s all good, so I make the body colour white, and the face colour black using the appearance tool (A) Then once that is done, I extrude (E) 0.05mm into the face and it will remove the black face leaving the white body visible 😊 I hope this helps

Greetings! I'm trying to understand Arduino, DCS BIOS... I'm interested in this point regarding, in my case, the light indication. Everything is fine during the game. everything works, but at the end of the work, the indication continues to light until you press Reset. Is it possible to somehow programmatically, by code, make such a procedure automatic after exiting DCS, or maybe upon completion of data entry/exchange into the DCS BIOS?
