I've been circling back thru some of the beef reactions. Found yours. Good job bro. New sub. I can tell you are a hip hop head. Have you ever heard of Coast Contra? They will restore your faith in this artform. Start with Never Freestyle. Also Ren is dope too. Hi Ren reaction will go crazy. His fans are insane!

I faced hard days, but the best days back then. Now I am older, but I am so much better. Plus, I am still jealous of all the creativity that BH brought in. Also, I miss you, Tabby, just like I miss the old days.

Personally, I feel that Flower Boy is less of a story about him isolating himself from others, but instead how others used to isolate him before he publicly came out (although he’s been gay/bi for many years before FB). He isn’t detaching himself from people around him in general, but cutting out those in his life who are toxic and don’t respect him enough as a gay/bi guy or as a creative person. Throughout his ‘ride,’ Tyler contemplates on driving alone without someone in the passenger seat to accompany him (his lover/crush, his friends). He raps about how people throughout his life (his mother, his absent father, his friends who don’t take him seriously, his crushes) have shaped his personal feelings and private sexuality. He uses driving not only as a metaphor for getting lost but also his habits: buying luxury cars, flexing his wealth and bumping loud music to distract himself from coping with his difficult emotions. He snaps back to reality after he is forced to ‘slow down’ between Who Dat Boy and I Ain’t Got Time. The Golf Radio Station is also a motif, reflecting how Tyler is creatively obsessed with music and is in his own head. He dedicates certain songs to himself and his lover, who he also imagines in Sometimes and November. He’s only able to process his feelings when he finally ‘comes out’ of his car, as depicted in the album cover with him standing in a sunflower field and his open Tesla in the background. The bees and flowers surrounding him in the cover are also metaphors for growth (spring) and love (pollination). Flower Boy is an album I still return to even after several years. It not only marked a peak of maturity in Tyler’s career, but it’s also one of his most creative and meditative works.

I think Kendrick is really on a mission next album to show Drake and his hardcore Stans what a real authentic artist who does it for way more than just money or validation sounds like. Like everyone else is saying this is addressing more than just the individual Drake but the type of person and culture of vapidness he represents. Problem is the type of people being dissed in this song are too vapid to even understand it’s about them or to even care if it is.

its not about drake. just listen pls and dont expect everything's kendrick says being about drake. he talks about those who doesnt listen beneath surface level

I was only 11 when this album came out so I wasnt really in tune with the music scene but watching this 8 years later makes me feel like I was there when this album initially dropped.
