Just bought mine, great to see your nice video. I pick mine up tuesday. The dealership wanted me to bring it home yesterday but when we finished the deal i didnt have any protective gear. Save riding. I must add that im coming from a Honda Monkey which is so fun but sometimes i needed a little more speed. Never getting rid of that one. My wife wanted me to sell it but i was like no no.

After 20 years of GS (1150 and 1200) ownership, I sold up 2 months ago and bought an NX. I was fed up of the weight and high running costs, plus I realised I was never going to go to Mongolia. I absolutely love the NX. Enough power, great handling and better for my back. Can't get enough of it. Who knows, I might even go to Mongolia on it!

@@Jorrocks1703 glad you are enjoying Jorrocks they are a really fun bike arnt they I’m still an 1150gsa owner at the moment currently selling her after putting 2670 into her to sort all the previous owners problems, as we downsize our house if I could I’d still keep the 1150 as it’s a good compliment bike I think as a classic adv :) having said that I also ride a 1927 Norton flat tanker so I do like the older bikes and spannering as well. I hope you enjoy the other videos I’m really happy still that we let the Tenere go for the Nx 500 much much better bike for our usage. An it’s got dad riding again which has been very emotional to watch an why not :) I was speaking to someone on one of the NX groups who had gone through Egypt on there’s absolutely awesome to hear

@@timothybrockbank7474 I guess it all comes down to expected speeds. That’s probably where the bigger bikes like the 1150gsa etc all come handy with the extra pulling power when loaded up. Would be worth you getting a test ride I’d say to try with a pillion if you are thinking of that I don’t have pillion insurance so can’t try that out unfortunately

@adaptableadventurerider it's not even the speed it's how much the engine sounds like it's struggling. I have no doubt the 500 will do 70 with a pillion. But imagine how much less effort the 1150 would have to make..

@@chrishart8548 owning an 1150gsa till she sells with my dads stage 3b/4 prostate cancer and us downsizing our house I wholeheartedly agree Chris the 1150 is such a great long distance fully laden bike would cope two up easily like the 1200s. Nx is a great solo bike especially if you ride it like a 350lc :)

In many ways it’s a bit like the 1150 in that respect as that was geared in a similar way without all the endless power of the new 1300gs which you just don’t need on our roads now.

Hi Jubei thanks for the comment you would have to check with your Honda dealer as I’m just an enthusiast that’s bought one :) I will say the standard clutch is unbelievably light I show it in the video that you can pull it in with your pinky, I can understand though how the e clutch could be amazing for people with injuries or disabilities though :)

Hi Miro I’m 6foot 2 with a 32” inseam I fitted GS height shocks and a gs height stands so that lowers both the centre of gravity and seat height massive help in managability :)

Best wishes to your dad and hope he gets out on the bike soon. Getting out on a bike is always the best therapy! I had a 2019 cb500x so I agree with your comments on the riding experience. I always thought the handling was superb for this type of bike and wish honda did an unrestricted version with 60-70 hp as well as the a2. After 4 years of ownership I traded it for a tracer 7 which is an overlooked adventure bike IMO, especially if you swap the tyres for 50/50. Enjoy the Honda!

It’s a bit like the 300 Rally I think they are missing a trick by not putting the nx500 seat unit on and a 19” wheelset with a more performance based cam could be a very different option to what’s in the market place

I bought a 2006 1150GS Adv expecting to put some $$$ into it. I'm not mechanic but with KZbin and a Clymer Manual I was able to complete the work and it's now the bike I hoped it would be. Thanks for sharing your work. Here's what I did Install new clutch kit (complete replacement) Install new clutch slave cylinder Bypass servo ABS and removed unit Remove charcoal fuel overflow canister Install new Bosch BMW 1200GS fuel injectors Install new (stronger) cam chain tensioner Install Stage 13 ECU chip upgrade Install new rear TFX suspension Install new front TFX suspension Install new Y-pipe and Slip-on exhaust Install new O2 sensor Cleaned innards Install new metal fuel line connectors Install new fuel pump/filter Check Hall Effect Sensor wiring (crank shaft sensor) Install split loom wiring covers over front wiring harnesses Complete 24k mile service - Engine, transmission, and final drive fluids - Bleed brakes - Bleed clutch circuit - Valve clerence - New plugs - Throttle body adjustment - Brake pads

Hi Rich I’d love nothing more unfortunately with the way they were acting towards me that’s a route I don’t wanna go down, under enough stress now with my dad having just been diagnosed with stage 3+ prostate cancer and having to downsize our house and let a lot of my bikes go, hope you enjoy the series on sorting her out she ended up a terrific bike after £2,500 or so of parts that I bought an put into her which I’ll never see back as I’ll be selling her at the initial 5k purchase price of what I paid for the bike.

I owned one of these for 200,000 miles. Sold it in 2013 and got a KTM 990 Adventure R. The seat on the BMW was great for all day in the saddle. I wore out three of them. The 4th was getting ready for a new cover and I figured I'd go custom, then just decided to sell and try something different. I'm now close to 100,000 miles on the KTM. Probably my last motorcycle at 70 years old. Shorter and lighter, and simpler are the thoughts that populate my old brain. Cheers.

I'm gonna really miss this unfortunately my dad's been diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer so we are downsizing our house an some of my bikes have gotta go life's a journey that's for sure :) gotta make the most of the experiences so I'm glad I got to experience the 1150 while I could. Can totally understand that a friend of mine is in his late 80s an rides a bantam :) doesn't matter the bike just the experiences we make I always think so choosing something that keeps us Riding super makes sense happy bike choosing:)

I'm really gonna miss my 1150 unfortunately my dads got stage 3+ advanced prostate cancer so a few bikes have had to be sold off as we are downsizing the house the 1150s next on the list but I keep holding off from doing it. Such is life I think it say's alot about it. One of those Iconic machines! If you can track one down as they are rare get a factory none abs like mine or look at the earlier single spark if you want the abs just steer clear of the servo brakes. I think the 1150 edges the T7 for long distance but the T7 is the better trail bike all swings an round abouts an different pros an cons been an interesting few months :)

I think I heard you say you had the servo ABS brakes. IF this is the case I would strongly suggest you have this professionally removed. Many of us who had these had them fail…and when they do you have no brakes at all. Lost mine on the M4 slowing for a junction….fortunately engine braking did the job but scared the bejesus out of me.

Hi mate you Miss Heard mines a factory none abs :) I was saying at least I havnt gotta worry about the servos, if you look at the rear fd you will see there's no sensor cut out, also got the build sheet from BMW now as well she's factory none abs with the enduro gearbox. Unfortunately my dad recently got diagnosed with stage 3+ advanced prostate cancer so we have to downsize the house an the 1150s now gotta go, gutted after spending £2,500 quid into her in parts. Just got a Tenere 700 for my dad an I to share after selling my fireblade I'd owned since new hope you enjoy the rest of the videos an the new T7 one :) thanks for taking the time to share your experience with everyone that watches in sure itl help lots of others that arnt aware of the issues with the ones that came with servo abs. Glad to hear you were OK the same thing happened to my friend when he had one which was why I hunted out a factory none abs :)

I've got a 2002 Aussie registered 1150 GSA same colour scheme as yours that I leave in France and return for the last three years (22, 23 and back in 24) to ride around Europe. I replaced the clutch and slave cylinder last year in England with some great mechanics in Feltham and back into France etc. They are a great basic bike that on tarmac will go forever, I've done thousands of kilometres on mine with virtually nil issues. There is no problem with ABS II I had on mine R1150GS white and blue 2001 to 2018, it's ABS III had many costing problem (to replace). Put on it transparent sticker front light protection, my friend and me had to change it because a stone break the light.

I am trading in my old 2005 GS for a 22 plate 650. I definitely think it will be a good decision. One thing I would like to add to the bike is a sat nav bracket above the dash. For my satnav etc. I know there are some on eBay that fit on the screen fixings but they have very mixed reviews. Anyone here have a cheap as possible suggestion?

Hi mate I'm actually on a 1150gsa 2004 at the mo, when i owned a vstrom1000xt a few bikes before the 650xt I had an over the clock givi mounting bracket which went on the screen mountings on that but found it bounced about alot. I soon got used to having it mounted on the bars on the vstrom 650xt :) an have done the same on the 1150, its a shame they didn't fit them with an over the clock substantial bar like the later beemers have an the 300 rally. Good luck with the 650 :) I still miss mine! They are a different thing entirely to the Beemers but great in there own right worth a test ride which id always recommend :)

Just like my bike. I don't think I'll ever sell it. I bought mine with 10,000 miles on the clock, it's now on 111,000. I used it for a long distance commute into London for years. For the last few years this included going through the Blackwall Tunnel to get to Canary Wharf. Some people would say it's too big for that, but it managed just fine, and it is fantastic on the motorway. Handles amazingly well for such a heavy bike. I've never had any problems with it, and it passed its MoT with no advisories a couple of months ago. A classic bike.

Bob from downunder here. I just acquired a low mileage 1150 gsa with 21,000 kms. Quite a step up from my f 700 gs. It has not been ridden for four years, so there is a list of checks and cleaning before It is re-registered and made road worthy. I am a bit intimidated by the seat height , with no ability to flat-foot while stationery. I will need to go to the gym and build up my quads and so on, before I get to start riding, (and potentially having to pick it up by myself). Keep you updated.

I am an Aussie and have a 2002 1150 GSA complete with BMW panniers which I shipped to England two years ago. I leave it in Europe and have returned for the last two years on it and what a great reliable bike. Had to have the clutch replaced this year '23 at "Jap and German" at Isleworth, can't recommend them highly enough. I'm back this June for another spin around Europe. This bike is ultra reliable, slow, heavy, but a kilometre cruncher!

Love these bikes.They have a few tricks to keep them in top condition,and if you take care of them they will never fail.Previous BMW tech and owner of my own shop now.One of the few bikes i would buy to keep

Thanks for taking the time to comment :) it took a while to get her right after this video but she's now singing the way she should be cost me half her value in parts an some time fettling :) still keep pinching myself that I'm on an 1150GSA though! As with any older bike an I know I'm preaching to the converted glad I've got ontop of the condition she was in mechanically an hopefully some happy motorcycling to be had now :)
