TRUE STORY: Several years ago I was at a local 5K race here in Seattle. There was a stage at the starting line and an emcee was giving details of the race. He introduced a local marathoner,/ultra runner who had just completed her 267th marathon/ultra in 10 years...... roughly 26 per year. The crowd clapped in applause as she waddled up into the stage. She was by any definition obese with GIGANTIC hips and prominent fat rolls. The casual observer would assume she was 100% sedentary and would struggle to walk 1 mile. I've volunteered at the start and finish lines of the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon and seen countless overweight and obese finishers with times well under 4 hours and many under 3:30. It taught me a lot about how even massive amounts of exercise doesn't override genetics.

It’s crazy out of alll the training I’ve tried…. 5 days week running…. 4 days week, 3 days week…. My best half and full marathon and best half marathons were always off running 3 times a week with 1 aerobic long run and strength training squats and bench presses 5x5. Running 5 or more week just seem to burn me out and my pace seem be better running 3 days week

It is a good intro video - however from a medical professional points of view - don't consider u self as obsessed if 18% body fat. Body fat percentage should also be considered differently as age increased

May be a drop in the ocean, but who knows maybe worth a trial - since you are eating oats quite regularly and oftentimes these are wholegrain ones, which specifically doesnt go well with neither fruit acid (acidic fruit, acidic fruit juices) nor white sugar - both will do a lot of imbalances in your gut flora and since from what I could see you don't balance quite es much with eg fermented foods (as usually it is doen in grain consuming societies), this may be some factor - an imbalanced microflora and its maybe not so constructive species may cause this especially as such combined with a 'sweet' food base (which on its own is fine, without the first factors). Also regular wheatgrasjuicepowder is known to help with the potential assumed cause, which simply is a symptom that has been given this name. Dizziness actually also goes along with oxygen (thus maybe also iron) and low water intake - maybe there is sth here involved - may be also psychosomatic, you could ask yourself is there anything that makes me feel such, or what's taking the oxygen, or the water element. Also in your climate cold water exposure is actually a tradition which surely helps with this. Ive noticed that with a very natural diet like you primarily used to do you get even more sensitive to modern world features such as you mentioned screens. Also btw. oatmeals were traditionally consumed by eg Schottisch people and they did some fermentation to it before consuming, so like living shredded oats overnight in some water, you may be more sensitive to the 'grain dizziness factor' either in general or when not prepared properly. Hope you ve found balance in the meantime. Best wishes

Pleeaase at least some 'whole sugar' (= not raffinated and not crystalized, also not the socalled 'brown sugar'), like muscovado, rapadura, coconut sugar, maple syrup, you guys may even have birch syrup :D, Asian and Indian versions in Asian and Indian stores :) or some southern variations like carob syrup or date syrup etc. (the real ones made of fruit only), or alternatives like stevia (leaves, drops..), liquorice root etc. etc. Or at least at least counterbalance with some molasses intake to bring smth back what the white sugar thief and microflora troublemaker has taken ... I know you know :P Love

Nice to come across this video. I have just recently started putting one of the plans from advanced marathoning to the road. Question - one of the day's description is "Marathon-pace run 13 mi (21 km) w/ 8 mi (13 km) @ marathon race pace". For such runs, where is the marathon pace block placed in the run - middle or the end? I am assuming it cannot be at the start. Also, if it is in the middle, is it safe to divide the remaining mileage between WU and CD? So here, for example, it will be 4k WU, 13k MP, 4k CD. This is my run tomorrow. Tried searching for Pete P online but his lack of social media presence makes me ask you this.
@neviyav6 ай бұрын
Quick question for you, since I did not find Pete on social media. I have just started following the schedule given by Pete P and Scott D in advanced marathoning. When the run description is something like :" Marathon-pace run 13 mi (21 km) w/ 8 mi (13 km) @ marathon race pace", then how is the run structured, is the 13k marathon pace in the end or in the middle? Surely I think it is not in the beginning. And if it is in the middle, then can I assume a 4k warm up and 4k cool down? Thank you so much.

I think cross training (except strength training) makes only sense when you have to train a high volume. E.g. twice a day. So cycling/swimming is a good supplement to not overuse your joints and muscles that have already been fatigued.

I agree the Jack Daniels approach is amazing for people who want a precision guide to train by & not perceived effort or guess effort. You need to read the book at least twice IMO, then put chapter, section tags / markers in for the areas relevant to your current training & then adjust those tags / markers in the book to match your next challenge. When stuck or in a rut, re-read the book, it will give you everything you need to get back on it or give you the answers to why something is not working. Jack Daniels is a mindset and might not be for everyone, especially those who do not like a regimen approach. It has been a game changer for me, I will be forever grateful for the effort that went into making this book, it previous revisions & the VDOT system. It is a legacy of a Masters Coach who obviously cared for athletes then & now & who clearly understood the behaviours of those athletes & know's from his experience what is required to get it done.

I'm a little late to watching this, but congratulations on finishing your second marathon, Mikkel! In the video you mentioned that perhaps you might do a video discussing fat burn and glycogen burn, and the role of genetics in that. That would be interesting! I hope you've been well.
