The entire difference was 200mb faster write and 80mb faster read speed for the 4.0 - very marginal difference only, so i would recommend everyone buy 4.0 ssd and just use it on 3.0 motherboard to maximize 3.0 performance - informative and on point video man - thx. ^^

I think in terms of the bus being closer or not, it would make more of a difference if the SSD was closer to the RAM than the CPU, as the CPU still needs to interface the SSD through the RAM to access the data

Thx, I built my PC back in 2018 and it supports PCIe Gen 3, I was thinking about investing in a good and fast SSD to store most of my games and maybe some other stuff and a lot of the ones available in my country are NVMe which is good since they are fast and in line with my needs, however I did run into the situation of having to decide between the different PCIe generations. Since I am planning on eventually building a new PC, that being in the distant future of course, I wasn't sure if I should go with gen 3 or 4, but after this video I can finally make a decision and get a gen 4 one. That way, I can still use the SSD on my current PC, even if I get slightly slower speeds then what the specs say, and then in the future I'll use it on my new computer and have no downgrades in speed since the SSD will be the same generation as with what the motherboard supports.
