If you would be starting into this world of brewing, and you could buy e Gen 3.1 for € 350 or get the Gen 4 for € 600, what would you recommend (where money is an issue)?
@graintoglass
@graintoglass 3 сағат бұрын
That's a tough question. Both will make great beer but the gen4 has a few things that I really like. The new grain basket is much better, the gen4 draws from the center instead of the side when going into the pump, the false bottom keeps more hop and grain particles from clogging the pump and the controller is at the top of the unit for easier access and also supports wifi connectivity. It's also easier to fix if you do have a clogged pump or need to replace it in the future (this hasn't been an issue for us yet though). If money isn't an issue I would hands down recommend the gen4. If you have a fixed budget you could go for the gen3 and then spend the other $150 on more brewing equipment like a fermzilla fermenter or more kegging/bottling equipment. If the question was is the gen4 worth $150 more than the gen3 then my answer would be that it is. I hope that helps. Cheers

How much is the pressure transferred from co2 tank to keg?
@graintoglass

Assuming your kegged beer is in a fridge you would want 10psi for most beer styles. That would require around 8 feet of beer line. If you want a shorter beer line you would want to step down the psi once the beer is carbonated depending on the length. There are charts for this online depending on temperature of the beer and length/diameter of tubing. Cheers

Do you need to leave head space in the pet keg when you carbonate to let it condition

Is a Brewzilla OK for a small business producing beer for the public. Or just home use ? What is your opinion? Do micro breweries use them ?
@graintoglass
@graintoglass 9 күн бұрын
The 35 liter version I have seen used occasionally in breweries for very small test batches or special event beers but you couldn't produce enough beer using this in a micro brewery to turn a profit.

You could use a recipe calculator like Brewfather or Beersmith that will provide the amount of water necessary based on your equipment, batch size and grain bill. I mostly brew 5.5 gallon batches of %5-6 abv beer and find i use roughly 5 gallons mash and 2.5 gallons sparge on the Brewzilla

I wanted to use one for a mini pop bottle Co2 dispenser on the go. I am just tinkering and they seem to leak after just getting them from MoreBeer. I dont know why. I got four in-line regulators, and I am usually pretty good about installing them too. it's not as smooth as I was hoping for.

I have never thought of using those essences in my brew in the past until I have started binge watching all of your past brewing episodes. And I have never even heard of Festa Brew until you guys, and doing a bit of research they are out of Ontario so being in the states I probably wouldn't have. Been really enjoying the FuF videos. Between the experiments and fixing issues that may occur during a brew session it is nice to see it not all taken out, but shared so that even the newest of brewers can see ways to correct a mishap.

That's just because all the trub was in suspension and the lighting. Once it was fermented and poured into a glass it was a light copper color. I recommend using pilsen light or super light dme as opposed to lme. You could also add some of the dme at the beginning and then add the rest at the end of the boil which helps keep the color a bit lighter. Cheers

Spunding 2.0 doesn't work that great. It's very fussy, and hard to dial in by simply turning the knob. There something about the design that doesn't work well. When something as simple in parts as that doesn't work, you know it's a bad design. Gauges have to be bombproof. Now you have to buy them in pairs, to compare them to each other...?

I use kieselsol + chitosan after fermentation and then biofine in the keg and it's crystal clear. Definitely doesn't have the best aroma but I don't find seltzers typically do. Next time I make a batch I'm going to try "CO2 scrubbing" where you hook up co2 to the liquid post and then burp the keg lid. Apparently this gets rid of the sulfur smell but I haven't tried it yet. Cheers
