It is obvious that an equal level floor is more practical. But it is not always possible or economically viable to create it in an existing building. I think that for the largest part it depends on the doorways, and perhaps also the windows, and if you are willing and have the funds to make major changes to those doorways and windows if needed. But it is hard to judge just by watching this video. From what I can see it seems that it would be easier to raise the lowest floor level, instead of lowering the highest floor level. Because the inside doors would not match the floor level if you would lower the highest part of that floor. But there will always be some steps at some location, whether it is inside the building or outside the building. Although outside the building you can also make a smooth ramp without steps. Or create a terrace that is level with a new doorway. If you still insist on leveling the entire floor then I would go for raising the lowest part of the floor. And if you can afford it it would also be a great opportunity to install floor heating. Or at least some insulation.

@@TeaAndTinto Another option is to leave it as it is, and to think about possible indoor solutions for people with mobility issues if that ever becomes an issue. Such as a staircase lift or something like that.

That sounds like a good idea. I can use the lower part as a coffee area allowing for in the future to have some sort of lift. Thank you again for your help.

Is there a finished floor under the old kitchen floor/steps? Whatever your plans, try to keep as few steps as possible on the main/ground floor. Plan ahead to have spaces so that you can live fulltime on this main floor. Kitchen, living area, bathroom, and bedroom spaces. If someone is hurt or as we age, stairs and steps are a major hazard area. Thanks for including your viewers on your journey to save this home. Houston, Texas USA

Thank you so much friend in Houston, Texas, for your valued advice and this is certainly something we have thought about looking into the future. If we are to stay here in our golden years, then one of us may have mobility issues and this floor would be perfect to use. Incidentally Anita has distant relatives in San Saba, Texas.

If they are kinda orange and feathery on the underside: they are chanterelles. Superb mushrooms with garlic and parsey and scramblet egg. Yum! All looks good and we have 60F in North Texas. Edit: what a stove!🎉

You are knowledgeable about so many things but just in case... I just wanted to note this as I was unaware about cement/concrete/lime mortar. A contractor in England was talking about 1970s repairs made with cement on a wall/ home built in the 1400s. The problem was the stones couldn't dry out because the cement held water which caused the fail of the structures exterior wall.

Hi I'm watching from Australia but I am British and more specifically Welsh. My Yorkshire born husband and I emigrated to New Zealand in 2006 and then emigrated to Australia in 2014. We plan to come back to Europe to live and at the moment we are thinking Portugal would be the country of choice. Need to give up work first here! I'm a bit jealous of the stone house you have as it is so beautiful and you obvious bought it seeing the potential. Good move - my job is to convince said Yorkshire born husband this is what we should do but he plans to be fishing 24 hours a day when we move (daft lad). Anyway loving your vids - all the best Siw 💓

Such hard work getting that concrete off and I am glad to see you show that you are taking regular breaks. The toll the vibration alone takes on your body is not to be taken lightly. I am sorry the granite isn't built for being on show it's a shame. I have no idea what that fruit was you were peeling it just looked like tiny tomatoes to me 😂 but I gather from another comment it is fruit 😊
