Friend, can you help me configure the Infinity EdgeRouter? I have not been able to solve a problem. I currently have a pool of 5 public IPs, of which I want a private IP to work only with a specific public IP and not use the other public IPs. When I ping the public IP externally, I get to the private IP, but from the private IP it tells me that it is using another public IP, which in this case is the one used by the EdgeRouter to connect to the Internet.

Hey I'm trying to upgrade my home network from an outdated router and someone recommended Unifi. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to IT things and I was wondering if you could help me out a bit. Internet provider is Cox, current plan gives internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps download/50 Mbps upload. Household has a lot of devices especially since now some people are working from home, ~3 devices per person/12 persons. - Is Ultra or Max the better option here? - The provider has a modem run into the home - if I purchase the Cloud Gateway Ultra/Max and a U6+, would that provide full network functionality for my home? And would I need to purchase a separate PoE cable to connect the U6+ to the Ultra/Max? - Do you think Unifi will come out with an upgraded version of Cloud Gateway Ultra/Max that includes WiFi in the near future? - I read about the extreme heat of some Unifi devices, how concerned should I be about this? Do I need to look into purchasing extra cooling components (fan, etc)? - What is the storage option on the CGM used for? Network/firewall logs? Video files for the security cameras? Thanks for the great video, keep up the work!

Connected to the network switch as separate devices. You need a separate IP address for both. So the data transfer goes through your LAN.

Question, I want to add a couple Eero 6 Pro router/mesh to the Gateway ultra, should I put the EERO network in Bridge Mode before connecting to Unifi Gateway? Or should they be changed to AP mode? Both Eeros will be wired to network. I think in bridge mode they will still use their mesh technology, but If I put in AP mode, would the gateway be smart enough with the wireless handoffs like the mesh?
@ApexOneTech12 күн бұрын
I’m not sure if it’s possible to add a wireless Eero mesh system to the gateway and still have it function properly. You can add one unit, I’m sure, but I don’t know about wirelessly meshing. I would think that Bridge mode would mean that the Eero router is at the top of the network diagram receiving the internet connection but you would actually want your UniFi gateway to do that. I would try AP mode. If that doesn’t work, I would try to sell it and get UniFi APs. I know that’s not what you’re asking for but the UniFi meshing APs will be great. All their APs can also connected wirelessly (mesh) instead of via Ethernet cable.
@daveroski12 күн бұрын
@ for anyone who wants to do the same. If you put eero into bridge mode it keeps the mesh technology and works great. You just don’t have all the options. But works great.

Great video.I love your diagrams, what's the tool you're using? Regarding connecting gateways and switches and how that affects speeds. Let's say I get UCG Max and connect 4 2.5g devices to it, device 1 and 2 can talk to each other at 2.5g and device 3 and 4 at the same speed at the same time, right? That's a total of 5gbps. Let's now move devices 2 and 4 to a Flex Mini 2.5G that's connected to the UCG Max via a single port. Now 1 and 2, and 3 and 4 can talk to each other at a total 2.5gbps, right? What happens if we move all 4 devices to the Flex Mini 2.5G? Does the total go back up to 5Gbps or does it stay at 2.5Gbps, because everything needs to go through a router?
@ApexOneTech12 күн бұрын
Thanks! I’m using Apple’s Freeform app. Superior to anything else I tried. Hopefully they release a Windows or web app. Regarding switch throughput, that’s not quite right. Typically, a 1g or 1.5gbe, etc. port means the maximum speed on that port but not simultaneously on all ports at the same time. Unless for some reason the internals is spec’d higher. Where is it adds up is like a SFP+ port. This gives you a 10G connection. Likes say you have two switches connected via SFP+ (10G), the first switch has a NAS on another 10G port, the second switch has several desktops at 1G. The benefit here is that multiple users can hit the NAS a max 1G. So in any case, for your example, think of a single port as 2.5G max theoretically at one time. In your third question about all devices on the 2.5G Flex Mini, if they are in the same subnet, then they don’t need to route all the way back to a layer 3 switch for communication (which would be the UCG Max in your example). The devices will just communicate within the nearest switch, the Flex Mini 2.5. And again, maximum throughput of 2.5G between two devices on that switch.

Hey Bogdan...this was a great set up and very helpful video. I have a customer that has Comcast/Xfinity as their ISP and paying for 2.5G download speeds. Customer has purchased a Dream Machine Pro SE and (2) Enterprise 24-POE Switches that support (12) 2.5G POE ports. I connected the their Xfinity Router 2.5G port to the Dream Machine 2.5G port and used 10G uplink cable between the two switches. I ran a speed test in the dashboard and I'm getting close to 2.5G speeds from the ISP. Customer purchased a total of (7) U7 Pro AP's and connected them to the individual POE+ 2.5G ports which also show 2.5G connectivity. I have a laptop with a 2.5G ethernet port and when connecting to the individual 1G or 2.5G ports of the switch, my speeds throttle down to about 300mpbs consistently. When I connect to the 1G ports on the Dream Machine I get closet to 1G. All the ports are set to auto negotiate and have tried different combinations and I get the same result. I would've expected to see around 2-2.5G on the 2.5G ports and close to 1G on the 1G ports but all of my speeds throttle down to around 300mpbs from a hard wired perspective. Yet on the Wi-Fi I get around 800mbps setting them to the 80mhz channel width on the 5G network. Thought I'd reach out to see if you'd ever heard of this strange occurrence. Thank you.

Why dedicated NVR when you have 2 bays on Cloud Gate?
@ApexOneTech12 күн бұрын
Good question! I just dropped the NVR as an example of what fits in there. Before deciding to use a dedicated NVR or not, you’d want to consider the performance hit on the UCG Pro Max. Yes, it has a RAID setup that can run Protect but doesn’t mean it should. It depends on what the UCG Pro Max is already processing and how large of a Protect deployment you’re doing and how long you want to retain recordings. I would use the UniFi Capacity Calculator to determine that. For a small home, a single UCG Pro Max would cover Protect for probably 30 days of history with a 16TB drive and that would be fine. But really, I probably wouldn’t deploy a UCG Pro Max for a small home.

Yeah you can. I quickly mention it at the end. You need a VPN setup. Easiest: get the WiFiman app on your phone use the “teleport” option. Literally just click it to connect to your local network. Or, setup something like OpenVPN to run on your Unifi gateway. You’ll then need the OpenVPN Connect app on your phone. Or 3, use Unifi Identity. Enable VPN wit Identity on your Unifi gateway, and then use the identity app on your phone to connect to the VPN.

I was going to get a the ULTRA- and then I wanted to get the MAX after your watching video .. but NOW I'm torn! Thanks to your video, I double checked my internet speeds and they are only 500mbps! Looks like our ISP offers 2gb but it's like 3x the price! And this is just for a home network.. and there are only 2 of us in the home. So I went back to the ULTRA. So THANK YOU for your explanation. I do have one question about the POE injector? I currently have the Gateway Ultra, Switch Ultra, some Switch Flex minis, and some Access Point U6 plus in my cart. Do I also need to purchase the POE injector to power my WAP? I have a smart box with CAT cable running throughout my home. Thank you for your help!
@ApexOneTech17 күн бұрын
Awesome. Glad the video helps! Regarding PoE injector, it depends on which Switch Ultra you're getting. There's 3 options. First, you should see what the PoE requirements are of the wireless AP you're going to buy. I think for the U6+, it's PoE at 9 watts. You can double check that max power consumption. Then, choose a switch ultra version that can supply that much power and a bit more. It'll have that spec as "PoE Availability". Most likely, you'll need the 60W version. BUT, that's way more than you need. Something cheaper that will work for you is just the Lite 8 PoE: store.ui.com/us/en/category/switching-utility/products/usw-lite-8-poe?a_aid=Apex&chan=yt However, if you really just have one wireless AP, then you don't need the Switch Ultra. Just buy the $8 PoE Injector.
