I'd probably go through it on my own. Just for the other viewers/subscribers, the "vortex" system is not new. Victa here in Australia made Vortex mowers in the early-late 80's. These had a "power torque" engine. The blade disc underneath had raised sections, like a fan blade, which lifted the grass to be cut. They had special blades too. The blade holding disc was oval shaped. Very weird set up. The engine was a 2 stroke job, with compression relief valve in the head. It was vacuum operated.

My first serious attempt at a mower repair was on a Snapper rear engine rider and, half way through my repairs, the result was very much like this mower! Before this repair attempt, I just did the typical consumer method of run my cheap push mowers until it wouldn’t start and I couldn’t figure out why and then replace it with a new one but since this was my first new riding mower, I was financially forced to do more than just replace it. Since I had no idea what I was doing, I just moved from one mechanical component to the next, desperately hoping to luck into the problem, and leaving one mess after another in the wake! Finally, after days of guessing with no results, I finally consulted the internet to learn how to properly check the systems of the mower. I had to backtrack and properly repair and adjust the mess I had made to each system that had previously had no issues. I spent a significant amount of money replacing parts I had screwed up and at least twice the time it would have taken to learn to troubleshoot the machine properly. In the end, I did restore it to good running condition with the problem being a broken flywheel key preventing it from starting. Looking back at it, the time and money spent fixing that machine turned out to be an educational investment that still cost me less than giving up and taking the mower into a repair shop. Since that time, I have used the knowledge I picked up to repair countless other broken machines and to even purchase several broken riding machines to make into one good mower; a replacement riding mower for that Snapper when it came time to move up to a larger machine and literally saving myself several thousand dollars over purchasing a new machine as well as allowing me to have a much higher quality machine than I could have purchased new, since new machines are just not as well built as the 20 years old machine I rebuilt. I don’t fault the seller of this machine for attempting to repair it but it’s too bad they gave up and sold the machine instead of learning how to diagnose and repair it properly. That said, I can understand that taking on mechanical challenges does not interest everyone and some see their free time and money being better spent elsewhere. However, given the current inflated prices of goods and services plus the fact that I would rather invest my money in other things I want or need rather than replacing something I already have, I will generally try to fix something rather than replace it whenever I possibly can.
@HomeGaragechannel2 ай бұрын
wow, you said a mouthful and it completely agree with you! They did try, but it seems they weren't meant to work on machines and at least knew when it was time to pass it on.

I taught myself to work on small engines. At first, I would just take pictures, and then tear into it. When I ran into complicated stuff, I would try to find a video on it. Now I constantly watch videos about anything I haven't done before, so I can learn how to do it properly. I stick to channels done by professionals or people that have training and know what they are doing when I am trying to learn. I always double check anything i don't already know when I am working on something that doesn't belong to me.

Ugh, yet another Toro with a Briggs 725EX engine that has had the factory sticker destroyed almost certainly because of the owner trying to get the cover off the wrong way thanks to KZbin! There are some bad DIY videos circulating around (NOT from this channel) that incorrectly state the only way to get the cover off of a Toro with this engine is to punch holes in the factory sticker or rip it off completely and release the catch lever from the top. This, of course, is totally WRONG - you remove the two screws and pop the cover back to release the catch. I can’t tell you how many of these mowers have come in here with the factory engine label destroyed or missing because of KZbin videos with bad information on how to remove the cover. I bought about 5 of those stickers from my Toro dealer this summer to replace the ones I restore to sell, but soon we won’t be able to get them anymore. The videos that show people the wrong way to take the cover off will be around forever! (Again, NOT from this channel of course, always good info here!)
