Thank you for this. It is really informative. I just recently got an air rifle that came with a scope and first time using a scope and been wondering how to mount and set up a scope correctly. Please, any more tips and tricks for this kind of stuff post it.

One thing that would be important to mention is how the bolt throw angle interfere with the eye piece (especially large eye piece like the one you have). Sometimes with 90 degrees bolt throw angle you must have higher ring mounts for the bolt to travel back.

Why do you torque the rings before the mount? one might think that tightening the mount at the end might make it twist or move a bit and mess everything from there up
@MDTTAC2 ай бұрын
We use a zero cap design with our rings, and that is how you install them. Allows the scope to be easily adjusted and tested during install.

I don’t own or have experience with savage rifles. But wouldn’t you want the recoil lug seated to the front of the chassis opposed to setting it to the rear to compensate for recoil, similar theory to mounting optics?
@MDTTAC3 ай бұрын
No, if you did that the recoil lug would be floating. The reason optics need to pushed forward is because they are moving slower than the action under recoil.

As a walk in hunter here in NSW Australia, I chose the Oryx over the Hunter Chassis as its illegal to have the hinged stock. My only issue is that MDT must think all hunters carry bipods, tripods or hunting sticks, or just shoot at the range. Where’s the common sense in a lighter chassis with no belt sling points?
@OryxChassis4 ай бұрын
There are sling points on the chassis. You just need to add them. You can utilize the M-Lok slot on the buttstock bar and forend to attach your preferred sling.

This method rings true to me now does leveling the scope to the action with the little bubble levels even matter?
@danielalcaraz6916 ай бұрын
What scope is that?
@eggspr6 ай бұрын
Does height matter if your hands rub against the scope each time you pull back the bolt action lever? Would that be cause to have higher height rings, or just deal with it because you’re sacrificing accuracy by raising the scope?

Thoughts on applying blue loctite to the screws prior to install?
@jamesbrannon48579 ай бұрын
Prospective buyers should be made aware that cleaning from the breech on some rifles mounted to this chassis is not possible unless the chassis is partially disassembled or a flexible cleaning rod is used. Also, the MDT AI mag I bought with the chassis fit so tightly that I had to dremel the proud areas on the magazine in order to be able to use it. Other than that, it is a fine product.
@MDTTAC9 ай бұрын
Yes, to clean the barrel from the breach side, you will need to do either. What magazine did you purchase?
@jamesbrannon48579 ай бұрын
@MDTTAC , From Optics Planet, and MDT marked AI mag for 308. That is also where I bought the chassis. The mag well was scuffed up when it arrived, leading me to suspect the chassis was previously bought and then returned. The problem with the tight fit of the magazine makes this seem even more likely. I was under the impression that the chassis came with the necessary (long) Allen wrenches to install. As well as a recoil lug. These items were absent. When I brought this to the attention of O.P., they said they would check with you. A day or so later I heard back from O.P. and they told me that you said the wrenches and recoil lug are not included with the purchase. My mistake, I guess.
@MDTTAC9 ай бұрын
@@jamesbrannon4857 Do you know which specific magazine? We make them in polymer, polymetal, and steel. We don't include the tools and in most versions, you re-use your factory lug.
I should add that once I polished/grinded down the proud areas, the magazine worked flawlessly.

so my scope says 4 clicks = an inch at 100 yards so why at 25 yards an inch is equal to 16 clicks? whats the math behind it?
@FirearmsGunGear11 ай бұрын
Because 25 yards is a quarter the distance of 100 yards think of it like this: At 100 yards 1 MOA is one inch, so at 25 yards 1 MOA is a quarter inch so you need to dial in 4x the amount of clicks/minutes. Imagine having 2 laser pointers taped together and point them at a wall just in front of you, the dots will be touching, the further you move away from the wall the bigger the gap between the dots will be, let's say at 100 yards the dots are 1 inch apart, reduce the distance to 50 yards the gap will be a half inch

Still only available for the Rem 700. If people own a 700 they will get a LSS, XRS or even a better chassis. In my opinion, these stocks should be for us peasants who can't afford a fancy custom 700 or something. Why these aren't out with inlets for all the cheaper rifles is beyond me. If you get these out for Savage axis, TC compass, Mossberg, CVA cascade etc they will likely sell well.
@MDTTAC Жыл бұрын
We have just released the Ruger American SA inlet. Many more will be following over the next couple of months. Which will include, Howa 1500 SA, Savage SA, Tikka T3 SA, and many more.

@@MDTTAC I agree with this guy, I doubt MDT will have any other inlets out with in the next year or 2. Plus MDT only has chassis for the same few rifles. Savage Axis, TC, CVA Cascade and all the other low cost rifles would be nice. The firearms world is expensive, I cant afford a fancy Tikka. Id love to put my CVA Cascade in something like this though. I see this guys frustration, Finally an MDT product I can afford and its just for 700's and will never come out for affordable rifles. MDT is just for the rich.
