Does height matter if your hands rub against the scope each time you pull back the bolt action lever? Would that be cause to have higher height rings, or just deal with it because you’re sacrificing accuracy by raising the scope?

Thoughts on applying blue loctite to the screws prior to install?
@jamesbrannon48573 ай бұрын
Prospective buyers should be made aware that cleaning from the breech on some rifles mounted to this chassis is not possible unless the chassis is partially disassembled or a flexible cleaning rod is used. Also, the MDT AI mag I bought with the chassis fit so tightly that I had to dremel the proud areas on the magazine in order to be able to use it. Other than that, it is a fine product.
@MDTTAC3 ай бұрын
Yes, to clean the barrel from the breach side, you will need to do either. What magazine did you purchase?
@jamesbrannon48573 ай бұрын
@MDTTAC , From Optics Planet, and MDT marked AI mag for 308. That is also where I bought the chassis. The mag well was scuffed up when it arrived, leading me to suspect the chassis was previously bought and then returned. The problem with the tight fit of the magazine makes this seem even more likely. I was under the impression that the chassis came with the necessary (long) Allen wrenches to install. As well as a recoil lug. These items were absent. When I brought this to the attention of O.P., they said they would check with you. A day or so later I heard back from O.P. and they told me that you said the wrenches and recoil lug are not included with the purchase. My mistake, I guess.
@MDTTAC3 ай бұрын
@@jamesbrannon4857 Do you know which specific magazine? We make them in polymer, polymetal, and steel. We don't include the tools and in most versions, you re-use your factory lug.
I should add that once I polished/grinded down the proud areas, the magazine worked flawlessly.

Honestly, I find the whole concept of elevation adjustment on top and windage adjustment on the side seriously flawed. It's counter-intuitive. That's why there are so many people out there asking questions like "which way do I turn this to adjust", that's also why many scopes have the windage turret marked 1L, 2L, 1R, 2R and so on, to make it clear which way is left or right. If you think about it, the direction of the rotation of the side turret is UP or DOWN, these directions should reflect ELEVATION adjustment. But all the scopes out there make the side turret for windage, which is adjustment left or right... Similarly, the top turret rotation is LEFT or RIGHT, and it should be used for left or right adjustment (windage). But someone had a bright idea to make it the elevation turret, and now everyone is guessing if they are going up or down. This is ridiculous. Yeah, you get used to it with time, but I always found this utterly stupid. Elevation and windage turrets should switch places.
@owenmiller-sacher247712 күн бұрын
Maybe because the elevation and windage turrets are made in that orientation because that's how a scopes internals function mechanically. So for example the elevation turret adjusts the reticle up and down and is set on the top of the scope because the action of screwing it in or out literally pushes the reticle inside the scope up or down, so you can't really adjust vertical travel with a turret mounted on the side unless you want an overcomplicated and expensive scope to solve a problem that only exists because you can't read the turrets.
@user-io2ym6gm8z12 күн бұрын
@@owenmiller-sacher2477 Yeah, I agree with you completely. I posted similar comment under another video and then thought about the mechanics of a scope. A turret is essentially a screw like you say so when you "screw it down", then it moves the reticle down, or "unscrew" moves it up. Having said that, it wouldn't be particularly hard to make an "angle" gear to achieve more intuitive turret movement. Which will introduce more complexity into a scope construction and possibly make it less resistant to recoil, which for a scope to have is very important.
@owenmiller-sacher247711 күн бұрын
It’s certainly doable the issue is if there’s enough of a market for it. Is it worth it for the manufacture to go through the R&D to make it and would it be something that sells over the scopes that have been out for a long time now.

so my scope says 4 clicks = an inch at 100 yards so why at 25 yards an inch is equal to 16 clicks? whats the math behind it?
@FirearmsGunGear5 ай бұрын
Because 25 yards is a quarter the distance of 100 yards think of it like this: At 100 yards 1 MOA is one inch, so at 25 yards 1 MOA is a quarter inch so you need to dial in 4x the amount of clicks/minutes. Imagine having 2 laser pointers taped together and point them at a wall just in front of you, the dots will be touching, the further you move away from the wall the bigger the gap between the dots will be, let's say at 100 yards the dots are 1 inch apart, reduce the distance to 50 yards the gap will be a half inch

In my opinion, these stocks should be for us peasants who can't afford a fancy custom 700 or something. Why these aren't out with inlets for all the cheaper rifles is beyond me. If you get these out for Savage axis, TC compass, Mossberg, CVA cascade etc they will likely sell well.

If .047 moa matters to you, you are shooting f class or bench rest and you should be using a 1/8 moa per click second focal plane scope. Most prs shooters are going to be using .1 mil scopes in first focal plane.

I have a rifle that was made during the Clinton gun ban of 1994. Bought the rifle in 2003. One year before the expiration year of 2004. There is a target crowned muzzle that I am very accustomed to. Would it be worthwhile to thread the barrel to accommodate a muzzle device? The barrel is made from LD-50 stainless steel. This type of steel is hard to machine. Barrel was made by Lothar-Walther of Germany. I have chosen Wilson Combat to thread the barrel.
@whomagoose68979 ай бұрын
The one thing I can add is the distance from your eye to the level should be the minimum distance that you can focus on the image of the level. All eyes are different and older eyes cannot focus the eye lens the same as younger eyes can. I have to mount a level forward on the scope. Near the focal lens. Any closer and I cannot see it. I use a rail mountable level on the rifle. Weither mounted on the rifle or scope it makes no difference. Regardless the scope and rifle are connected directly to each other.
