I will admit that I really like how EXPERIMENTAL the music team was for this game. There’s so many tracks with such hugely different interpretations, and nostalgia tunes badge means you can swap between your favorites! One can say that it would’ve been nicer for some tracks to be more faithful, but it would’ve robbed us of Japanese Glitzville and new Rogueport. Even the less changed ones like Magnus, Cortez, and Grubba are super groovy. That being said, the highlight of my playthrough and the OST, HAS TO GO to the new OST. The new battle tracks, Magnus 2.0, some of the new intermediary songs sometimes stole the show for me. I found myself just humming Keyhaul Key and Glitzville’s battle themes on my day-to-day.

I'll be honest, there are a few tracks in the original that definitely stand out over the remake, but when I say few I mean it. Barring a few exceptions, I'm kinda floored at how effortlessly the new arrangements combine the heart of the original tracks with the instrumentation of the modern games. And not only do they do that, they increase the length of almost EVERY SINGLE track's loop, almost double the soundtrack with how many new tracks they've made, like giving every single boss their own unique track arrangement, every partner their own theme, unique battle tracks for every chapter AND a thinking version to go alongside every battle theme...like, I can go on and on. The remake's soundtrack to me is a big reason why it'll be very hard to imagine myself ever going back to the original game, which I've adored for over a decade. Just an incredible job well done by the team, you can feel their love and passion for TTYD in every beat.
@BreakerBoxx7 ай бұрын
all the smorgs battle theme needs is the train track percussion to make it absolutely perfect to me as you described it, sounding "messy" fits the smorgs really well especially with the added gross sound effects
@AlbertBoris7 ай бұрын
I definitely feel that the original game's soundtrack stood out more! While the remake's is certainly impressive (the Chapter 7 magnus von grapple theme especially entrances me), I feel that a lot of the songs just sort of blend together, now that it's all hardcore rock for the most part.
@mreverything70567 ай бұрын
Tbh I actually prefer that. When everything feels like it belongs together it can make it all feel right at home. That being said the OG soundtrack def felt more varied in a sense, I understand.
@aaronTGP_37564 күн бұрын
Hardcore rock more is a minority genre for this game, just like in Origami King. But I get that people tend to listen more to the battle themes, which leads to that characterization (most of that game's soundtrack leans on a grand, cinematic feel). The most prominent instrument I can pick out is the violin, as it's used in a TON of the tracks (including 6 of the 9 battle variants).
@tibby45037 ай бұрын
I definitely haven't listened to everything, but I'll be the first to address one of the most polarizing remixes so far: Glitzville. I'm perfectly alright with the East Asian style change, that definitely fits what the area is. But I don't like how much they quieted down the original melody. Still, a good remix overall, makes Glitzville feel grand. On another note, I honestly dislike a lot of the OG music because of the soundfonts, so I'm really pleased with the orchestral approach.
@JoProGaming7 ай бұрын
For the most part I don't mind the change from the original sound fonts to the new instruments, but many of the melodies take a backseat. X Naut Fortress and Rawk Hawks theme especially do this.
@LunalynDragon7 ай бұрын
Everyone keeps saying how they think the new soundtrack is too "busy", and here I was thinking the OG sounded too "empty". Hot take I know, but I'm definitely more of a fan of the remake's soundtrack overall despite growing up with the OG. There's some I definitely can't defend though, Grubba and Grodus are definite downgrades to me. And Frankly's theme got *BUTCHERED!!* EDIT: Just got to the Chapter 6 soundtrack and NOPE NOPE *NOPE* they ruined almost every song in that chapter with a couple exceptions.

I enjoyed your discussion! Yes I was mortified hearing Rawk Hawk and Grubba's themes. Only a passing mention of Boggly Woods though, that area IMO got the best glowup! Specifically the "Searching" version. (interesting, btw, that both Ch.1 and Ch.2 got "searching" versions and then none of the other chapters did) The OG Boggly Woods was amazing but this version...oh my god. *chef's kiss* Meanwhile, the new Smorg battle theme made me shut the game off and turn on the Nostalgia Tunes badge, ha ha. Felt similarly about Hooktail and Grubba (as mentioned), but Gloomtail was better. Another glow up IMO was the Palace of Shadows. In the original I think the tower was the only part with remarkable music, but the remake really turned the whole rest of the chapter into this epic, powerful experience. The build up to the throne room was insane, imo. E: Also, nobody mentioned it so I will, you were listening to Twilight TRAIL, not Twilight TOWN. Although I agree, the remade part of Twilight Trail is great but the added part is very meh.

I feel like you're judging the new one based on how similar it sounds to the original, rather than on its own terms. As someone who is hearing both of these soundtracks for the first time, I overwhelmingly prefer most of the new ones to the old ones.
@aaronTGP_37564 күн бұрын
One thing I and some others have noticed with the new soundtrack is the heavy use of violin/strings throughout. Just like Origami King, woodwinds and strings take a much bigger role, whereas something like Sticker Star relied a ton on saxophone/brass. Or how TTYD/SPM uses almost exclusively synths (64 used MIDI sound, which is different). Of course, many of the bosses, and the final chapter use electric guitar (played by Yoshito himself)and vocals prominently, also similar to Origami King.
@aaronTGP_37564 күн бұрын
Overall I consider the remake soundtrack a big improvement, although part of it is my preference for the full ensemble. I feel the live instruments allow for a lot more variety, which we got in the recent 3 installments (CS, TOK, TTYD-remake). For example, Color Splash has folk, texas-style rock, big-band jazz, classical, trap, spy jazz, minimalist cinematic, sea shanty, Galaxy-esque symphony, and much more.

@nimble37427 ай бұрын
The only thing with the remake's OST that I'm iffy on is that is sounds as if the entire OST is compressed, meaning it narrows the differences between the louder and softer instruments of the track. Why this is the case? I'm not really sure... but I'm hoping that it will eventually be uncompressed so we can hear how the track is truly meant to be played, like maybe if it were to be run on the new system. I feel as though a TON of tracks would definitely leave a bigger impact if it wasn't for this.

Autumn Mountain and the X Naut Battle Versions are the respective ones from both Games that are S+ for me and I don’t really dislike any of the new TTYD Battle Themes, but some Boss themes, either og or remake I’m not that crazy for. I definitely sense a lot of nostalgia bias in this vid. I myself never played PM2 or watched much of it as I wanted to keep it away as to play it for myself and make my own opinion of it. I just know that it is perhaps one of the most loud fought over game in gaming for various reasons. In any case, in my opinion the TOK OST is the best Paper Mario one, but all games have good music in more or less ways. 25:44 right here to the right of the track list in the recommended videos is a video EVERYONE needs to see and experience. Line them Up! A Paper Mario The Origami King Concert from VGMTogether. It is just heavenly amazing and peak music content. So so many musicians came together making this during the covid time in the world, people like David Wise, Grant Kirkhope, Gareth Coker (all of which all people should know), GlitchXCity (a Pokemon remix maker), Joe Zeija ( Voice Actor in many games and Nintendo too) and so many more all came together to just play good music.
