Oh, there are so many unjustly forgotten composers who should be brought back to life! But in these turbulent times, culture is often harmed. Let's thank KZbin for allowing us to post and listen even if the ads abound.

@@sibarit101 All wright, this times are so turbulent, because we had forgotten our culture and behaviour. The time where Europ was the top in the world is gone. Europ is now old and soon dead. I am not a pessimist, I am a realist ! Ceterum censeo.

Wunderschön dieses Andante - eine Musik zum Träumen. Piano perfecto. Ich liebe Pianosätze. Dieses Temperament gepaart mit Melodie im finalen Teil. Man bewundert den Pianist und vergisst darob den, der das schuf.

My favourite Hummel concerto - particularly the wonderful, wistful little slow movement. The last 20 bars of that are beyond compare. The final rondo anticipates Chopin in many ways.

Who else is here from Doug Helvering's channel? He just reviewed side 3 of Deep Purple's Made In Japan, and towards the end of Lazy, Ritchie Blackmore breaks out into this melody. I never knew what is was from until one of the commenters on that video identified that piece as this one. 52 years later, and now I finally know! Thanks @patrikwindestal6805 !

There is one bit here at 15:30 when the whole orchestra reaches a crescendo that still makes the hairs on my neck stand up, it is so good. The sleeve notes for the 'Your Hundred Best Tunes - the top 10' which I first listened to this say "Through this violin concerto alone, Max Bruch's reputation will remain secure. It is a standard work in the violinist's repertoire. The warm expressive melodies of the Adagio have led some to regard this movement as one of the most rewarding pieces of music ever written for the violin. Indeed its main theme has been called 'a melodic glory of the 19th century".

Thank you very much for this comment! I've listened to this concerto hundreds of times and I know very well the passage you're talking about. It displays keen emotional intensity, always brings tears to my eyes and makes me lose my breath. (The same thing happens to me with Bruch' seductive Kol Nidrei played by Mischa Maisky, Verbier Festival) Joseph Joachim called this concerto "the richest, the most seductive" of the concertos. Thanks again!
