Can't remember what engine mine had, but it was probably the slowest cargo 813 ever!

I had one of these, came with the alloys from the puma racing version. Loved it, great ďriving car. Only problem was in summer the gearknob and leather seats cooked you until the aircon took effect...

Great van! Do you know if the auto box on these was ok - and do you think it would be much slower? Seen an automatic Autosleeper Duetto camper with 2.5 non turbo banana for sale.
@ShaunMurray63Ай бұрын
Hello , I don't have any experience with the auto boxes so I don't know if it would be any slower , but these Transits are slow anyway and are ok for 60 mph but at that speed they are noisy. I guess the way to do is have a drive of the one you are looking at and take it from there maybe but as I say they are a slow van anyway .
@robertp.wainman4094Ай бұрын
@@ShaunMurray63 Many thanks for quick reply - I wouldn't pick an auto, but the bodywork looks pretty good. Have always had a camper and there were two sounds you could always tell when in bed on a campsite - the sliding door of a VW......and the distinctive noise of a banana engine firing up!

A fantastic touring machine for sealed roads if you can deal with the weight, though for an all-road tourer something a lot lighter would be better IMO, like the Kawasaki W650 or KLR650.

They're a very sharp looking rig though I wish this had the 10 stud wheels. You can can see they strived to give the cab interior car like comfort levels, much like Japanese trucks do. I imagine those plastics are subject to deterioration in harsh conditions.

I hate rust. Ford D series and Cargos were once a common sight in Australia. I recall them as street sweepers used by my local council in the 1990s. Probably among the last built. I recently came across a derelict heavy three axle example with a box body parked in an industrial area with spider wheels and yellow CAT motor visible when looking under the cab. Some of the final Cargos sold here became very Americanised wirh their engines and running gear.

Did that van have a battery charger on it anywhere Shaun ?
@ShaunMurray634 ай бұрын
No it didn't have a battery charger as in like a car battery charger but they do have a system on them that when the caravan is hooked up to a 230v supply it chargers the battery when you switch on the charging mode on the internal caravan panel.
@garethlee16444 ай бұрын
@@ShaunMurray63 cheers Shaun ,I have the identical van here in my driveway, at the moment I have no lighting or anything even though the battery is connected, I've switched the panel on the wall to car and van vice versa and although when switched to van the needle is in the green nothing is working and I didn't know if there was a charger and more switches somewhere..
@ShaunMurray634 ай бұрын
@@garethlee1644 here will be a isolator switch in the battery box that you turn on with a red short type key . Check that you have or it is turned on then let me know if you are then getting power to the inside of the caravan , if by chance you have already done this check if the battery is flat . If you think it might be flat use the hook up lead to a 230v plug socket and then see if you have power into the caravan , let me know how you get on.

This brings back memories! I used to do European runs in a day cab 0813 with a box on the back when I was 18-19 years old. No night heater, no bunk, no curtains and no sat nav. Loved every second of it…!!! When I was 19 the owner upgraded our fleet and I got a Leyland Daf 45 with the high roof, was like someone gave me a Bentley.

How what year is the bike in the video, and what was the mileage for that much guide wear. I just bought a KLR with 3K miles and plan the replace the doohickey and spring, but I'm wondering if I'll need to order guides too. Obviously I can check while I'm inside the engine, but I'd like to minimize the downtime.
