My one chukar hunt in 2024 was in the same conditions. The hoar-frost was actually quite a bit heavier and I got up into the overcast. No dog, so tough hunting. The highlight of my day was the covey of Mountain Quail I flushed. Pretty cool to see them. Makes you extra cautious about pulling the trigger on quail in the area. I have a short video of three of them flushing, and several pics of the frost. I absolutely HATE downhill shots at Chukar that are dropping. So hard to get on them.

If it is a newer Gopro that is erroring a lot it's more then likely that the micro SD card is bad. Take everything off it and toss it. And at 9:20 I had a feeling it would go down exactly as it did. Being above the birds means faster flying birds that'll be farther away quicker. Plus I think falling shots are not the easiest to begin with. Also had a feeling they would wait till you tried to go down the steeper part before flushing. They know somehow.
@NorthwestWingshooters9 күн бұрын
@@TheRoamingHazard yeah I’m having issues with the new 13. It keeps telling me to use a V30 or faster card and then just shuts off. I’ve bought numerous cards for it and keep getting the same error. Firmware is up to date… I’m convinced it’s just a dud. As far as the chukar go, I was just not shooting well that time. If the cover is good enough I usually try to approach quartering from above. I’ve found that approaching from the bottom can result in a very tiring uphill chase. Ideally the dog is above them and you come from below to hold, but it just doesn’t always work out in the wild.
@TheRoamingHazard9 күн бұрын
@@NorthwestWingshooters It's possible it is a dud camera... I mean it is gopro. That said I've had more Sandisk V30 cards go bad quick then I've had good ones. When the ones I have now go bad I'm going to try Angelbird V60 cards.

I shoot an A400 and love it! Almost no recoil with gas system and the recoil damper (it works, get it), so epically fast follow up shots. You’ll have to clean it (or at least lube) every 250-500 rounds, but that’s a tiny concession for that big benefit. For chukar where legal, you can pull the limiter and “nest” a round under carrier for 6 rounds in gun which is awesome. Blink action is stupid fast.
@NorthwestWingshooters9 күн бұрын
@@Intermtn9736 yeah I can’t use more than three a lot of the time so I leave it as is. I decided to go inertial action for less maintenance. The A400 is a great gun though!

How long does your Apple watch battery last using the dogtra app? I just ordered the pathfinder 2
@NorthwestWingshooters9 күн бұрын
I think that depends on the model of watch. I have the Ultra 2 and it lasts 2 days. The greater issue is the phone battery. Mine will last for a full day of chukar hunting, but if you’re out much longer than 8 hours you might need to plug your phone into an external battery. Assuming you run it the way I do, which is with the screen on low brightness.
@Jakekearney67 күн бұрын
@ you have the issue even if your not on your phone much? Cause I’d probably use the watch/controller out in field mostly.

@Chukartramp22 күн бұрын
@Elkdog22, my wife took a backpack and took my old q5 bird pouch and integrated it in to the pack. I have a big problem with upland packs being floppy and unsupported. I developed siadic back and leg pain. Also as a chukar hunter i carry a lot of weight. We do minimum 7 miles two to three times a week hunting most of the day. No 45 minute pushes. I carry 100oz of water, plus a caffinated vitamin water. Also two boxes of shells, ect. This has been a stellar upland bird year as far as numbers. I've carried out limits almost every hunt. It's a lot of weight. I had a discussion with the final rise pack owner he wasn't open to opinions on packs. It would be nice to have a hunting pack that carries more weight up high that has an integrated pouch. Luckily my wife is a gifted seamstress. We can help you with a Brittany though.

@Chukartramp awesome to hear! I always have my sister sewing up ideas I give her haha! I'll have to ask her. Ya I know your pain. I'm in wyoming and hunt a lot of blue grouse and sharptail.
