Solo hunting that thick stuff and getting half decent shots is rough! I spent all last weekend listening to birds flying out the other side off of great points. So frustrating!

Tough to transion from an o/u to a pump for sure. Hopefully you'll get your o/u back soon.

You are having the common Ithaca m37 jam up. I have my grandfathers in 20 ga, it jams on any brand shell. Ive read on several ithaca sites that you need to polish the heck out of the chamber to eliminate the jamming. I did that to mine but havent had it out to test it out. Good luck, hope this helps.

Those pheasants sure are a challenge especially for young dogs - they don't allow much pressure and run and flush or run. Seem like a combination of dog experience (time) and the right cover to pin them down. My young GWP has been bumping a lot of birds but learning!

It’s a learning process. Dizzy bumped 4 of them at 200 yards today. It sucks but it’s nice that she found them. All you can do is hope that they learn something.

Ithaca featherlites are great guns. I've used both the 20 gauge and 12 gauge since 1970. I have found that you cannot use Kent Brand shotshells. The brass end is very weak and will swell into the ejector slots causing a jam everytime.

Liked the video. Took my pump out over the weekend for birds. Missed two good opportunities on Pheasant. Bumped a large male when my back was turned, and got so excited on a young one flushing I forgot the safety. 😅 But I am doing it again this weekend. Happy Hunting.

I gave my Ithaca Model 37 to my oldest son. It must be a Dad thing. That is a nice shotgun.

I used to shoot a 12 ga Model 37 for several years. Mine worked really well. The more I shot it, the better it got. I finally retired it, the slide would almost work itself when I depressed the release lever. Have hunted Phez for decades. They're TUFF ! I've knocked down a lot of birds, especially late season and had to do a lot of tracking to find them. They run like crazy, even when hit fairly hard. I heard you say you were loaded with #5 shot. What do you usually use if hunting Huns, Chuk's and Quail ?

I use 6 and 7.5 for everything. Unless I know I’m specifically going for pheasant then I might bring some 5’s.
