Nice timing. I was trying to decide where to go this weekend for a boondoggle. I hadn't heard of this place before and it's a lot closer than other things I was considering. Plus who doesn't love old military vehicles??

Been there a couple of times now. It used to be a fairly large farming community. Then it was severely damaged by a huge earthquake back in the late 50's/early 60's if I remember correctly? The residents sold out to the military and just moved away, leaving their homes/farms behind. Since then upwelling from the natural springs have flooded a lot of the area. All of the cool old military equipment, plus some of the original old buildings. First time I was out there, people were living in one of the old homes.. I think that the earthquake actually opened up a lot of the springs. Being out there, by yourself. Kind of creepy, very cool!!!

@@scottymac5174 there's not much left of the community that was once there, it's a different place to explore for sure.

@@campoutwestus Interesting to research the original history of the place. After the first time I was there. "Why are there so many buildings here" Looking at Google Earth and seeing the street grids laid out. Stoked that it is open to public access.

Some of those vehicles have seen better days. Cool seeing the baby birds in the nest. I don’t know if Id go in a few of those places. Too many poisonous things moving around. I’ve never actually seen a hot spring. What was that big skeleton on the ground? I think Gen would love exploring all these old abandoned places. 👍16
