Those newer lids will not hold up. The adhesive that holds the aluminum pull tab lids will fail after two or more years of storage. I had several boxes of the Bumble Bee Tuna tuna salad with the same peel style lids, I went back to go eat some three years later, and about half of cans seals had gone bad and their contents had gone rancid. I don't trust those lids outside of one to maybe two years of storage.
@PreparednessVeteranАй бұрын
hope it doesn't become the norm
@Deorse13 күн бұрын
@PreparednessVeteran Unfortunately, you're probably going to see a lot more of these. Companies try to produce the cheapest products possible and charge extra to maximize profits, usually on the backs of consumers. I would advise a different brand of tuna, maybe even from another store. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the grocer retail outlets outside of the name "Tesco" over there in the UK.

I went bonkers (buying all the canned food I could get) in 2018, when I realised something REALLY BAD was going to happen. (I was an ops analyst for an Aussie Bank, and the figures I saw scared the pants off me. I knew "something was coming", I just didn't know what. I later figured "covid" lockdowns would be the EXCUSE for a financial collapse that had already happened. I'm stunned that the whole show has stayed afloat as long as it has!). 6+ yr old canned food? I know canned food USED TO last just about forever, not sure if the stuff I've got was even edible when I bought it in a panic :(
@PreparednessVeteran3 ай бұрын
The key has got to be rotation and management of cans and all other preps. My cut off point for safety is the 3 year 'beyond date' for cans that have slipped the net - other than that, it's down to the integrity and shape of the can. Thanks for the great comment -
@HuplesCat3 ай бұрын
It is very unlikely you would get botulism from modern canning. Three years passed expiry and it is like that? It was contaminated when canned. Never, ever open suss cans in doors or towards you. It is a good idea to wear an N95. If botulism is inhaled its going to kill you. You can eat any can if you boil it and stir, stir, stir for five minutes.!

ring pull cans dont tend to be as robust or last as long as the old fashioned cans,
@PreparednessVeteran3 ай бұрын
Yeah, i imagine the ring pull cans are weaker around the 'scoring' are of the ring pull, maybe causing them to actually split if the pressure gets too high.
