zero about the bike. You could easily be describing riding a tricycle, with a smile....

When looking at retro bikes started with test ride of a 2022 RE 650 Interceptor. It was on sale for 5,000 as it was 2 years old. What I found was a good engine surrounded with rubbish parts the worst orange peel I've ever seen on a new vehicle of any type and engine cases that were heavily tarnished sitting on the show room floor mostly due to the cheap grade of aluminum used. Then there's the twitchy low speed handling. If I owned one of them the first thing I'd do is install a steering dampener because it's a tank slapper waiting to happen. Went through that with a 1974 Trident and not something I care to repeat. Knew if I took it home I'd regret it. Went in with an open mind and a ton of favorable KZbin videos watched. Walked out of the dealer thinking why would anyone buy one. The answer is price but that's where the old truism of You get what you pay for comes in. Went down the road to the Triumph dealer. There was a 2024 T100 Carnival and that was the one I was interested in. To say the difference in appearance was stark would be an understatement. The T100 exudes quality. The paint is stunningly good. The fit and finish light years ahead of the RE. The test drive was also much better. None of the twitchy low speed handling. One thing on the test ride was I knew if I bought the T100 was the mirrors had to go as they couldn't be adjusted to where I could see around me and I am not a wide guy. It's too bad because they are nice quality mirrors. You can see where the money went on the Triumph. So I did buy the Triumph. The dealer experience was also much better. The RE dealer was typical salesman sales manger dance that stretches a simple transaction to hours at the dealer. Triumph dealer from the time I started talking to the salesman to walking out with a good trade-in on my MG V85TT and a 1500 US discount on the T100 was 1/2 an hour. When picking it up it was about the same amount of time. If you don't do your own service this is where the cost between the 2 becomes less. First service on the RE at 300 miles is $600 US on the T100 it's 600 miles and $250. After that it's 3 times more often on the RE. To be fair I'll be installing a steering dampener on the T100.

Let's be honest anyone buying a current RE badged bike imported from the Indian sub-continent is simply trying to get on the nostalgia bandwagon "on the cheap". Aimed in the UK largely at geriatrix trying to relive the youth they never had, the "clones" only link to the heritage on once great British marques is the cheapy plastic replica tank badges and a few stick ons probably from AliExpress. The truth is that if a RE badge is pinned on a donkey, it will still be a donkey. Nice and shinny when new these piles of cachu will corrode easily this winter unless sprayed liberably with Waxoil...........

I have toyed with the idea of buying a Belstaff but tbh I can get a pretty decent armoured leather jacket that doesn’t stink for the same money! I do already own an old worn Barbour and will admit it folds flat and small for the cargo net over pillion seat.

It is the best of the 93mm Alox models however it has several bad features, the useless can opener tool needs to be replaced by the Pruner blade, the Screwdriver / Cap lifter needs to be replaced by the Combo tool and the key ring attachment which sticks in your palm and makes extended use such as sawing rather painful if you are not wearing gloves, needs removing ASAP. I own 2 of them, one the regular silver Alox version & a black Alox scaled model. Since I don't live in the UK I am not restricted to carrying a non-locking blade less than 3" long and as such I am more likely to carry a 111mm model, my favourite being the 111mm Garant which has Plus scales

Great review thank you. I bought one last week. It's a 2023 model with 1600 km on the clocks. Why did I buy it? It''s beautiful with it's red and white livery, it fits me perfectly, it's good on fuel and it is not too powerful. I get home happier and more relaxed then when I drive my car and my wife said to me yesterday that it was nice to have the old me back.. It's been a pretty awful couple of years after a heart attack and a broken shoulder, where I have struggled to remain positive. Thank you to RE for making such a wonderful motorcycle and bringing life back to me!

By the time I found the one on my T120, I had already installed 2 more...easier to find. Under the seat on top of the battery... real obvious ain't it? Geez... Almost looks like something one should not touch... My aux ones are on the handlebar and a sidecar mount next to the side cover. Sidecar is NOT cheating.

I bought a very lightly used speed twin 1200 a week ago. I absolutely love it. I think I would have loved the t120 just as much but its rare to see a used one come up for sale where I am and I wasnt going to pay AUD22K for a new one.

Jack what a great video! I can completely empathise with all you’ve said. I’ve been riding for 50 + years and can’t imagine not doing so but at 73 with increasing arthritis I can sadly foresee the time I will have to hang up my helmet. Despite having said that I am very tempted by a Classic 350 to sit alongside my Moto Guzzi V7 Stone…. Oh and BTW, I grew up in Chester and still regularly ride up there … 😀

Not I IMO. I own a T100 and I consider that the wind pressure in unbearable above 100km/h, which the engine of the T100 IS able to long term handling.

I agree. I have had many many knives over my lifetime, including many SAKs. I only get new ones when I lose one. I just lost my Pioneer after 35 years, which hurt. So I got a Farmer without the scissors, which I do not need. (If I need scissors, I prefer full size, purpose built ones) Having said all the ALOX scale on my knife have imperfections along the inside edges. Although minor, I can see and feel them. Is this normal for most SAK Alox's today? Anyone?

Bonneville T100 owner here. Interesting that you think the Speed Twin looks too modern because that is what exactly appeals to me. The T100/T120 hark back to a bygone era like a moden mock Tudor house. The Speed Twin looks like what it is, a modern sports bike for the 21st century.

At 2:15 in the video, what is the plug that is just beneath (visually below) the fuse box? The gloss black rubber coating. It seems it's a random plug to just a plastic post. I can't seem to determine the function of it.

Hi Jack, My name is Pete, (using my wife's KZbin) I hope all well, I am a new subscriber, but I have watched your channel for a good while, in fact it was one of your videos that got me to buy the classic 500 Enfield, I purchased one of the last before they finished production because of the exhaust emission laws, mine is in the dessert storm colour. I really enjoyed your videos and reviews, but you haven't put anything on for a year, so I hope all is well, I haven't passed my test yet hope to do it sometime in the future, I'm not to far away from Chester, maybe some day we could meet up and have a coffee and maybe take a ride out to that finest pub in Cheshire The Pheasant Inn, and have one of those fine cold Guinness on a lovely summers day, by the way I am 62, and I also purchased the 650 interceptor, so when I have passed my test I can ride further afield possibly Yorkshire Whitby, Scarborough etc, So hope alls well Jack, hope to see some new videos soon All the best Pete

Hi Pete thank you for your lovely note. Apologies for not responding earlier. It’s been a difficult couple of years. I have had to re focus my time due to family commitments. Close family members needed my support, I lost a very close friend last summer, and have just lost the will to do any KZbin. I keep thinking of returning now that I am turning the corner so to speak. Still love my 500. Hope you get your test passed soon. It’s not easy these days. Let me know how you go on. Coffee would be good. Take care 👍👍👍

@JackBonhamMotorcycles Hi Jack, Thank you for replying. I know how difficult things can be. I have very recently just lost my brother-in-law, and I have known him since I was 13. It came as a great shock as he is the same age a myself, so maybe in time, you maybe be able to get back into your KZbin and I hope I can pass my test it certainly is going to be a challenge, I think it's the theory side that may be problematic, I use to work in a motorcycle shop many decades ago in Winsford called Sports Equip, we sold Yamaha and we had branches in Winsford, Northwich and Runcorn. Runcorn sold Kawasaki, and Northwich was Yamaha, and competition bikes, we in Winsford introduced Suzuki at the latter end, hoping it would keep the business alive, but the grim reaper came calling 🤣🤣, and that was the end (dugdales, Arthur Boddies, and Bill smiths, which is still going who you do the reviews for) sadly the other two went as well and yeah that would be great to meet up and have a coffee, All the best Pete
