Please! Be carefull with shottky-Diodes. They work well by cold temperature, but the reverse-Current increase rapidly by high temperatures. This can lead to late failures after years.

Be carful if you plan on doing what's on this video because its showing you how to go from 220V which is the most dangerous voltage you can get at home. 220 is what Dryers, hot water tanks, furnaces, and ovens use. Be carful. Your fingertips will explode if you touch it

They're great for modifying guitar distortion effects. They use diodes as clamping circuits to create the distorted tone. The more you clip the wave, the more distorted the tone. The lower the voltage of the diode the more saturated and smooth distortion you get. Instead of clipping at 1.5 volts you can go to half that. Usually boost it back up a little somewhere later. They're cool for the designed used also. :)

Can you please make a video on how and why the "difference in convention" of current flow is still used when in physics we know that energy is motion and and electron flow is what causes power. So why two conventions and why is it discretionary for some engineers to use one form over the other? ie: diode flow under conventional theory is in the direction of the arrow but the arrow points to the negative side. Makes no sense to me.

Thanks. This is very clear information which one sadly can't find very often in suitable literature. I would hower call it still a _normal_ diode or _silicon_ diode instead of a normal _diode_ or silicion _diode- ...when talking about diodes

Let me correct and address some things here. The input is called the collector. The output is called the emitter. The arrangement of the pins is described in the datasheet and you have to check with each part. Sometimes it's 1,2,3, sometimes it's 3,2,1. Yes the big metal tab on the back is a heatsink, probably. Sometimes, it's an extension of the ground pin. Again, check your datasheet. The resistor is only in the first example circuit to limit current for the LED. Higher voltage from the regulator requires a bigger resistor to protect the LED.
