Don’t you have to learn to move the shoulder with the deltoid, when that was never how you did it before? “You can play tennis” - but do you suck at it compared to before, even after full recovery? What about weight lifting, not shoulder press, but other things like bench press for which you need the shoulder for stability but hurt the shoulder without surgery? What about contact sports - soccer - is it riskier to play after surgery? How many years experience do they have with reverse shoulder, to see if there are long term issues? What if the person wants anatomic surgery with repair of rotator cuff - will you do that?

As video sez, everyone is different with results post op.. if you're not to active or have other health issues then your recovery time will be more because of the difficulty with PT, I just had my THP 3 1/2 weeks ago and today is my 2nd time in the gym doing a full workout.. with no cane but still limp, guess that will take a few more month to totally rid of pain but with continue exercise and strengthening your leg muscles then once again it will speed up the process.... now if your going to get a THP then I would advise you to start doing a lot of lower body exercise to have strong muscle before the operation, as for my I been going to the gym for decades.. so my upper and lower body have always been strong.. Anyways the stronger your lower body or your muscle is the better chance your recovery will be and always make sure to do your daily PT.. that is a must.

I'm one of the exceptions--I had anterior a few weeks ago. Three days later my hip went out of socket. ER put it back in. 10 days later it happened again in my sleep. I'm having a second replacement in a couple of days. The incision healed well and was relatively pain free. I believe my surgeon is very capable--I'm looking forward to the revision. The pain of a dislocation is intense.

I stopped taking those strong drugs on the 7th day because they didn't work. Tylenol will help me better. I am on my second week, and Tylenol still helps.

I’m 6 weeks from my total knee replacement. The first week the pain was almost unbearable. The usual heavy duty drugs relieved some pain and fortunately slept well at night, even after napping during the day. The second week movement was much easier and I’ve progressed each week. I’m now totally without pain, able to walk unaided and my knee can bend to 110 degrees ! So happy with the outcome I’m having the other knee done next year.

What is your opinion on same day bilateral hip replacement on 55 year old male with arthritis that is moderate but pain that is at a level that keeps me from walking more than 1/4 mile or activity beyond 30 to 45 minutes that keeps you on your feet. Cant get socks on. Pain is also transient with moderate discomfort to sudden sharp pain that almost takes me down.

I would say after my reverse replacement I could not raise my arm in back above the belt line by muscles; I can pull it up to mid lower back with a strap. However, surgeons should brief patients in police work of this. As a policeman reaching duty tools on the belt became problematic; and even reaching my handgun was difficult and slow. I ended up on long term disability as I could no longer perform the required duties. The job requirements need to be considered in your replacement choices.

Hello. I am 55 years old and had one hip replacement. After six months or even a year, will I have the possibility to return to playing badminton, not professionally, but amateurishly? I'm very afraid that I won't and it depresses me a bit. Thanks to those who answered

I had a left reverse shoulder replacement 9 weeks ago and I can't even tell I ever had any kind of surgery at all. Since my shoulder surgery I used garden tools, a rototiller to put in a nice garden. Even 45 tomato plants and never experienced the slightest bit of pain afterward..... my left shoulder feels like I'm 18 years old again, it doesn't hurt and I would never even know I had surgery unless I saw the scar. To me that's amazing to think I feel perfectly normal after only nine weeks I'm scheduled to have the right shoulder done with a reverse shoulder replacement in 16 days and I can't wait I'm 71 and feel like I'm getting a new lease on life and can work hard just like I used to with no ill effects whatsoever I'm also going back to the gym to see if I can't build up my upper torso and arms.

low IQ, phony, and gay background music. And the concept of an entire artificial shoulder replacement, while intriguing and not without some application(s), is risky and doubtful prospect. Never underestimate how superior physical therapy routines can make the necessary difference (especially if you're stuck w/ mediocre or sub-standard physical therapy), and while I won't completely denounce the potential value of a shoulder (or knee) replacement operation, I think you should truly explore all other options EXHAUSTIVELY before committing.

I’m only at one one week mark. But just looking forward. I take a baby aspirin for blood thinner. Pretty much done except for a little bit of pain pill before bed. And I was told to take ibuprofen and Tylenol this whole time. Is there a reason you mentioning to be able to start taking them around now??

I ride for a living. I had a terrible horseriding accident last year. I broke my hip badly, fractured my pelvis on the otherside, broke a rib and had multiple tiny lower spinal fractures. I had a full hip replacement. I did all the physio I was told to do as well as biokenetics once a week. 1 month later I was back at gym slowly twice weekly Two months after my operation I was back on a horse and increased my gym to 3x weekly.I haven't looked back. Incase you think im young.... i'm not... I was 61.. All I can say is do the physio , especially in the very early stages. Be diligent, thank the lord you are through the worse part and be kind to yourself.

it was13 months before i could bend my leg enough to put on socks or clip my toe nails b/c of swelling. smh Still needed crutches betw 9-12 weeks. at 2.5 years, I am now amazing. But my story is very different from others' with regard to levels of extreme pain, pain control, and mobility in the first weeks and months following the surgery. .

I know everyone is different and this includes surgeons. You were clear, concise and gave good info. My surgeon is a nice guy has a good surgical reputation, however he seems so superficial, very zippity do dah and doesn’t seem to really listen or validate anything I’m trying to tell him. He made the whole anterior approach sound easy and I should be up and about with no issues. I guess I was that patient who wasn’t able to do this as of yet. Maybe he didn’t like the optics of my sister getting me a wheelchair. I knew I wouldn’t be able to walk all the way to his office with just crutches. I know many surgeons do have that ego thing going on and I know this from working around and for them for almost 40 years. I know, we in healthcare don’t make the best patients, or maybe we expect more. Anyway, I’m done complaining, i just find I appreciate docs like you, who don’t play games, give all pre and post op info and don’t talk down to the patient. Thank you.

Great video. Im 7 weeks post op with my hip replacement and everything he's said there is spot on. My first physio appointment at 3 weeks i was still unable to walk unaided yet another patient that was two & half weeks post op was walking unaided like a hiker. It really does vary from person to person. Now i can walk up and down stairs like normal, driving like normal. I still have a slight limp and it still aches after doing exercise. But you can feel it getting better each day. My hip is still swollen slightly and like the doctor said its warm to the touch. Up to about 4 weeks i did think ' is this ever gonna get back to normal ' but it really does feel better now,and im glad i had it done. I cant wait to get back on the tennis court and get a bit fit again.

Tomorrow I’ll be at my two week post op visit for my 2nd TKR and it’s my left knee this round. Compared to my 1st TKR(11 yrs ago) I feel as though it’s going much better. I just transitioned to a cane. I switched to Tramadol from Oxycodone and I try to take it only at night and Tylenol 2 during the day. As of now I’m doing pt home visits. I’ll find out tomorrow at my 2wk post op visit if I can switch to an out source for pt.
