@@JeffreySimundson I saw that the 250 carb seems to be what everyone was doing but it seemed like there was quite a bit of messing around with rerouting the impulse channel or something? I forget…but the issue to me with the 250 carb is that the Venturi must be meant to flow differently being a 45cc saw compared to the 30cc 170 and I didn’t want to get that far out of bounds. Bigger carbs don’t necessarily mean better performance as you know but if you did 2 of them it means the first one must’ve worked fine? That's a beautiful saw! I fell for a spring and summer in 2002. I used a borrowed saw identical to yours from my grandfather. He was a husqvarna guy and had the one Stihl, so I got the one he didn't like as much. I ran a 28" and 34" bar, 3/8" chain. When I got my first cheque I bought a 440 with the 3/4" handlebar, it had the winter package (heated grip. I had such a great time! When my grandfather past away in 2011 I tried to get that 064 but a family member took all his saw (probably close to 20). That 064 was a tough saw!

@@wizardsofwisconsin7400 I live in Alberta, Canada. The town I'm from is on the foothills of the Rockies. We were primarily targeting Pine and Spruce, but would also harvest poplar for the pulp mills. In the 60's, 70's and 80's my grandfather had the biggest sawmill/operation around. Logging was in my blood. Unfortunately in 1988 my grandfather sold out. He had 3 daughters and his older grandsons were a bunch of pussies so he sold out. I worked for a friend of his and then got into the Alberta oil and gas industry. Logging was fun even at -30°C, hense the heated grips. You bought a killer saw! I hope you enjoy it! The west coast dogs make er look mean. You need a 34" bar to make it a true tree killer! We used skip tooth chain. The soft wood would plug the saws up if we ran a full house chain.

@ Don’t even get me started on the pussies these days, it’s one of the reasons I purposely take my 2 sons out with me cutting. To expose them to this type of thing will help instill confidence in other things, and teach them to take up the challenge even when it seems scary and dangerous. Yes, it’s dangerous…loud…action everywhere. But they love doing it because the saw gives them real world power to do real world things, not just pound buttons on some video game. We have oaks here in Wisconsin that can get to 60” or better but most of what we’re working on is 5”-16” blowdown, could be oak,,cherry,box elder,etc. To have a crack at a massive spruce would be ALOT of fun, as long as it went where it was supposed to😆 -30c is a bit brisk but when your life is on the line the adrenaline would keep you warm! My public sites within reasonable driving distance are pretty wiped out and it takes ALOT of work to scare up one coin. One of my great joys of this hobby was to go hunt,film and actually find stuff. I really wanted them to be of use to someone else but if I don’t have much to find it’s a bit useless. Honestly, I’m somewhat burnt. With all of the voices out there in the ether saying DO THIS! and someone else says DO THAT!….my own videos get lost in that mess. In other words, I don’t think they’re actually worth making. With just over 400 subs I’m not reaching much of an audience, and all that coupled with the aforementioned things…no, I’m not as active as I once was and enjoyed being. If new ground were to open up I’d be there in a second, I just don’t have it and don’t see it coming. I don’t want to be a wet rag but it’s all become sort of MEH. How about you? Still finding things worth finding and having fun with it?

@wizardsofwisconsin7400 yep we are still finding stuff. Mostly at the same old spots and a few new spots. I'm getting real close to 80 silvers for this year. I found a couple bucket listers. A Canadian fish scale and a barber half dollar. Also I joined a club and they have a few club permissions that they've hunted for around 10 years. Old boyscout camps! I had good luck there and once I popped a couple silvers out of a field that they all just got done hunting they were watching me real close to see what I was doing differently. I think they thought I was cheating lol. In a sense I was. The only guy with a deus 2. The one day I popped 5 silvers and 4 on another trip. Finally one guy asked me to help set up his equinox and he had his sensitivity at 15 and recovery speed pretty high. He popped 2 silvers in about 15 minutes lol. But yep almost another record year for me. Deus 2 has given me about 270 silvers after 3 seasons. That's pretty darn good I say.

I won’t pretend to know what it’s doing but I know that it IS doing it, and until a time comes where some other technology comes out that’s the machine I’m using when I do get out. And yeah,sens 15 with high recovery on the EQX ain’t gonna get you any deep coins, it’s mind blowing to US that he’d have it that way, but hopefully he learned something. Not everyone is into every detail and piece of information about detectors and how they work and all of the tips that might make someone more successful….but then if they don’t want to take the time to do that they can’t be surprised when they get their ass handed to them on a hunt by someone who does. Knowledge is power, especially in this hobby. Glad to hear you’re still doing well and have producing ground. That’s a hell of a 3 year run, there’s people who don’t find that many in a lifetime!

The 371 is a great saw! 50mm piston, single ring. You can get the 75cc kits cheap. I have a 1996 with the 75cc upgrade. I used a ported husqvarna cylinder with a dominant piston, skf semi ceramic bearings. The only real difference from the 372 to the 371 is the 372 has gussets around the crank seals and the 372 has 2 rings like an Xtorq. When I got mine, a dumbass family member ran straight gas and burn't it up so I got it for nothing. When I rebuilt it, I hot rodded it. I like running a 20" bar with 3/8" chisel chain, full house. I put the high top 372 air filter and cover on it with dual west coast dogs. I customized the exhaust by putting a T style tube in the muffler and closed it up. They pull hard with that muffler trick, even if you don't port them.

Thanks Bruno! The manual will state, and the general consensus has always been, that when you’re in a very cluttered area with a lot of good targets and trash mixed in such as an old fairground….use FAST. In an area such as a wide open park where targets are sparse but could be buried very deeply….use DEEP. Not having either one on is like the the mid setting. I’m not sure what the manual says but I’ve heard in the past that having both ON is like having both OFF….but I don’t know. IMO leave them both OFF. The key to this machine is STABILITY. The sensitivity cannot be too high or you won’t be able to tell what’s going on.

Hi Aaron! Pretty much exclusively Ferrous/Coin with ferrous line at 25 and accepting CO 37 and up. You CAN get more depth with a manual ground balance but that can go wrong too so I almost always ran tracking. Sensitivity worked really well in Auto+3 but I almost had to with the 17” coil on most of the time. If you’re expecting fatty Indians or trimes or nickels….gotta lower the CO cutoff or set notches. Also always pinpoint sizing so you can determine shape of some items when in doubt, but it’s not useful when it’s ultra trashy, just too much stuff for it to look at. I hear you about missing the CTX, I think if they came out with something like that running FBS2 in a chassis as light as the D2….I’d be in again just to have it.

@@wizardsofwisconsin7400 I think you are 100% correct. Walking and swinging fast you are not overlapping and often are skipping chunks of area at the end of each swing. When you go low and slow, you are taking more measured and careful swings that give you better actual coil area over potential target areas. In a lot of videos of detectorists using a higher response / reactivity and swinging fast and walking fast I can see them missing chunks of the hunt area that they are missing. It sure does when hunting these absolute dumps Greg! Is it the best thing everywhere in all situations? I can only speak for these types of places…it does work.

@wizardsofwisconsin7400 if I'm hunting a new spot I'll skip the overlap and wander until I find hot spots. Then I slow down. But like you say just depends. If it's a spot you know there is stuff then it's low and slow!
@wizardsofwisconsin7400 Жыл бұрын
@@MD-NWWI Totally agreed, and I do need to put some of this into specific context in my next outing. It’s always easy to know what you’re thinking in your own head, but I have to make sure that it’s clearly conveyed, instead of just jumping to the conclusion that it’s readily apparent to others. I struggle with that, because in my own little world EVERYONE does the same thing I do, and that’s just not the case. The “blanket statement” is very easy to unintentionally make!

@wizardsofwisconsin7400 lol your all good! I don't think anyone is judging. We're all just guys having fun and arguing what we think at the moment. One day I got lucky digging iffy signals. 3 silvers in a row that had that bent nail sound. I told my buddy hey, we got to dig it all here. After about 12 nails dug my buddy was ready to shove me into a hole lol. I guess I just got lucky a few times.

Low & Slow is only dead to the inexperienced 👍

Totally agreed, it takes time to realize the importance! Time and patience that is…things that seem to be in short supply.

Congrats on the 42 merc..Hope it is over the 41..Only a professional like you could of found that one with all that iron in the hole..

I felt like I had to work extra on that one! Guy in Ferris Buellers Day Off…”Relax! I’m a professional!” Cameron mutters…”A professional WHAT?”😆 You know, I’d like to think I’ve got a few skills, I thought that about 8 years ago too. Looking back, there’s no way I’d be finding what I am now with the knowledge I had. That’s one of the intriguing things about this hobby, no matter how “good” you think you are, you can always be better. Once the fairly easy signals run out…that’s where things get interesting. Always learning Weird Guy, always learning! Thanks as always!👍

Being an ex minelab user, I still swing low and slow with the deus 2, now he's their US ambassador he may change his mind 😂

I’m glad you got the reference Gary! If he is supposed to be supplying SOLID information ESPECIALLY for USA hunters who are mostly public land hunters per capita…he needs to make sure he clarifies things. He did back up and say when he gets into a “cluster” I think he said…then he slows down. But I’ve watched his videos, and he just needs more time analyzing his own video to see if he’s got his technique correct. It’s tough to have that focus, it really is. I call it more “low and disciplined” than anything. Thanks for watching and comment it’s appreciated!

Thanks for the comment Ducker! I hope that people GET something out of it, they would be ASTONISHED at the number of old coins masked by all kinds of things! Great coil control and hunting very “deliberately” is what makes them appear, and recognizing even that partially broken signal. Good luck in your hunting!😎

Nice demonstration showing WHY low and slow is the best method. Guessing the KZbinr is PSSF. 😂

Thanks DeWayne! Is that not crazy how easy that would be to miss?? Your guess isn’t correct but I can see why you’d guess that…🤣🤣🤣

@@wizardsofwisconsin7400in paystreaks defense he constantly states he isnt looking for deep targets and he just wants to pound out tons of shallow stuff Im thinking i saw NYC say low and slow is dead iirc so I assume thats who OP was talking about I dont have the patients for low and slow myself, if I dont get a target today, I'll get it next time, I dont drive so I tend to search the same dozen or so places repeatedly sometimes during the summer I'll take the new cheap buss out of town though, it costt $6 and and stops in like 4 different towns, so when I get bored of the places by me I hop on that bus But couldnt you do low and fast and still overlap your sweeps??? I have faith in the recovery speed of modern detectors
@wizardsofwisconsin7400 Жыл бұрын
Our machines today are faster Gopher, and overlapping with ANY speed will help. But it depends a great deal on your recovery speed…your reactivity if you will. If you’re using a machine that doesn’t have this feature it just matters that you overlap at all. If you’re using a machine that has this feature and you’re swinging fast with a LOW recovery speed you WILL miss targets past a certain depth. Now…it depends on how you hunt, what you’re hunting, how deep you typically dig for a coin and how polluted the site is. Everything I do pertains to COIN hunting, so that parameter has to be set right away. Furthermore, I only hunt DEEP coins in heavily polluted sites that have nails in EVERY hole and also have a great deal of modern trash. So…all that reading later…if you’re in a site with coins that are by themselves you can afford a quicker sweep with overlap. The 9” coil on the D2 seems to be fairly active even a little bit outside of the coil itself, almost like a 10” coil. But you can only fudge it so much before something is going to get missed. In YOUR specific case, you might not want to clean a place out, being that it would force you to catch that bus and go elsewhere. But for most people I know, it’s about the challenge….not for KZbin ratings or likes. We don’t care about all that, we just care about learning all there is to know and getting better at what we do. Good luck out there!👍
