A great question is how statins and cholesterol (or lack of) affect the immune system and predispose infections

I took it for a few months and started slurring my words and using the wrong pronouns. I had developed tardive dyskinesia of the tongue. It took about a year of being off it to fully recover. Really scary. Not to mention, I never could reach the doctor who had prescribed it for depression and fibromyalgia.

Interesting subject and video. I was a long term patient on Gabapentin and I'm wondering about the long term effects that have been reported. While I was on the medication I don't remember having any of those side effects. I was on it for many years. I'm sure I was on Tramadol as well but those are just some of the important medications they stopped as I aged. I find it ironic that it's known that pain will increase over time. A doctor even mentioned it to me. Yet around the age of 65 I lost the Tramadol and I believe I lost the Gabapentin before then. I'm on so much medication it's ridiculous but my pain has gotten so bad I can barely get around the house now. I'm still a big guy at 70 years of age and I have had a high tolerance to medicine. Recently my kidney function has changed for the worse so I've been weaning myself off of Ibuprofen which I felt necessary to add myself since the Tramadol was discontinued. I was on it countless years and I was forced to stop cold turkey, which I felt was extremely cruel. It took a good week to stabilize again. I do not have an addictive personality, but I strongly feel I need better pain control that I can manage to stay in this world. A foggy sensation to me is like the feeling of being half asleep. That I can't wake up. Sometimes getting more rest helps, sometimes coffee helps so it's not a major problem for me at this time. I do worry about the future as I know dementia is a common problem as we age and I still love to learn even though I've been noticing changes in my memory. Do you think Gabapentin has to do with this? I'm open to your opinions and suggestions but obviously pain control in the United States is a sore subject to me. Literally and figuratively.

I have been able to successfully reverse my 660 CAC to 458 in just 20 months using the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol. I was also informed today that my Cartoid arteries have normal blood flow, which 2.5 years ago had mild blockage, meaning they were up to 50% blocked. I'm 69 and am on no meds.

You mention a zero CAC, but a standard CAC doesn't see plaque burden, but a CAC with contrast does.

I hope you're reading your comments. Because you're acting like and I'm only part way through your video. It's wildly prescribed because the doctors. R not able to prescribe. Pain medication, this should be considered a controlled substance that causes seizures. And causes other problems. I had was prescribed it to put my mom and dad on an end-of-life. You know, wasn't for end-of-life care, but it doesn't work. It doesn't prevent seizures. It doesn't control pain. It causes many more problems. And every single person that was on it in the nursing home in the hospital and my dad was in 2 nursing homes at a time. And let me tell you. I was there talking to hundreds of people coz. I was there 5 - twelve hours a day The opioid addiction of end-of-life patience is not there? And should not even be considered. We are mistreating our elderly and their pain by treating them with this. And this comes from a person didn't put my dad on hospice until about 3 weeks before he passed away and used. 1 or 2 vials of the morphine prescribed. Nothing else cause. I was against pain medication for end-of-life. So I think you should re-examine what you're saying about this drug. And it really should be taken off the market

I liked the video of Dr. Sullivan on Gabapentin. I was prescribed gabapentin 6 weeks ago, for post shingles nerve damage. My experience is good in general. I have been afraid of getting addicted; but after hearing this video I feel better. I am 77 years, I take 100 mg every 4 hours. Gabapentin works for me at about 1/2 hour after taking it. I experience a little sensation of euphoria or happiness of energy or something like for about 20 minutes. I also feel some short breath or sensation of tight chest, and a little heart arrhyitmia and tachicardia; nothing serios, but i feel enthusiastic for the good effects of gabapentin, i have had inconveniences like irritability, IBL syndrome, difficult to sleep, and have hopes that gabapentin will help me whitout damaging my memory or nothing else. I have a good memory and understant that at times of pain memory can be affected normally. Memory fog? sometimes nathing serious, I understand the idea. Thanks again.

I was prescribed 400mg 3x a day for my fibromyalgia and neuropathy. At that dose, I was easily irritated and very impatient. I couldn't stand myself and those around me weren't liking me much either. My brain seemed to be slow to process things and I couldn't find my words. I began titrating down and lowered my dose to just 300mg before bed.. I was doing much better for a while and then my neuropathy symptoms began getting worse so we tried the higher dose again. My irritability, impatience, and foggy brain returned. I even found myself with a notebook one day scribbling a note to myself "you are such a loser" "failure" and wrote words to myself that I can't say here. My poor dog was being yelled at all the time. Once again, my "evil twin" had returned. I took the note into the Dr. She agreed a higher dose was not a good thing for me. We lowered my dose back down to 300mg before bed. If my neuropathy is worse than normal, I'll take 300mg 2x day. We did try Requip, but it made my legs and feet swell and it just added to my pain. I told the Dr that I couldn't see taking something that added to my pain so we stopped it.

It was prescribed to me for herpes zoster… to help the horrible nerve pain. I could get lots if it. I took it very carefully and less than prescribed for about 30 days. It was soothing. It helped tremendously. I stopped it because I was concerned about cognitive effect or eventually dementia.

I take 200mg of gabapentin daily to counter side effects of taking tamoxifen, post breast cancer. Don't know why it works but it does! Couldn't sleep, was suffering from hot flashes at night and it has stopped it! Will be on tamoxifen for another 11 months so too, gaba. Lifesaver! 🎉😊

I am a retired Registered Nurse.. and I have horrible migraines...and I have taken benzos for years to treat extreme anxiety, PTSD, and agoraphobia after almost being murdered 3 times in one week... I was just doing my job...I worked in the State Hospital, Psych eval for court cases, and then attacked because I canceled a BINGO game.. I didn't have enough staff to keep everyone safe.. I had received the ward with 17 staff because of people who were in restraints or 1:1 for suicide watch... and by law, I couldn't have busy staff help stop the fights that always happened with BINGO games... I am on total disability until I die... Not a good life anymore... Anyway, gabapentin made the migraines worse... I happen to take propranolol for MVP... and I have for 40 years... People don't listen to the doctors.. They watch commercials and things like this and then they tell the doctor what THEY WANT... We are 1 of 2 countries that advertise drugs on TV.. and I think it needs to stop... Just my opinion, for what it is worth....

So why does it work so well? Placebo seems to be always the answer. I know many a family member and friends (we’re all seniors) that benefit from it. In a way I wish it did not work as it is very costly. Maybe science is not always the answer.

That _"perfect storm"_ comment is how I fealt watching this and another video about it that lists what scientist thinks are the causes of it. You go from _"ah, it's that"_ and then _"oh, and that too"_ and so on 😋 The for me seems sollution is to become healthier with both nutrition and physical health. That will help with the Type 2 Diabetes and maybe also, most likely, depression.

Proper use of gabapentin destroyed my nerve center, took my legs - put me in a wheelchair. All the arts I loved are lost because it took my fingers hands and arms. At age 48 I needed diapers as I began losing more control of my body. Today I am an old broken lonely alone wreck and wish only for it to end as my list of troubles is longer than I'll write about. I've been on gabapentin since I was 14, I'm 37 now. It's saved my life. I have a seizure disorder and neuropathy . But...I just had a baby in April, was told to reduce my dose, did not know that babies withdraw. Watching my baby detox was absolutely horrible. She's 2 months old and just stopped withdrawing. The docs said withdrawals from gabapentin in babies is worse than opiates. I've tried going off and it the withdrawals left me having suicidal ideations, and physically it felt like I was going to die. and I could not continue to withdraw and had to go back on. It's horribly addictive. But it's helped with my depression and overall mood. My seizures are brought on by stress and I truly think inconjuction with my other anti epileptic, controls my seizures. But...but, DCF is now in my life bc the hospital called bc baby was born on gabapentin. However, I was told to stay on it, I dropped it as low as possible. I never tried to go off of this and had no idea until my baby was withdrawing and I was so horrified and felt so guilty, that I tried to come off too.

I take 300 mg gabapentin for nerve pain twice a day & it doesn't help. I've told my Dr, she said take it 3 x a day I have memory loss as well. It's frustrating. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, carpal tunnel. My feet hurt when I stand up for too long or sit too long. I do have nerve pain in my feet also. There are times I can fall if im not careful. I have to be careful with my hands as well. I can't seem to have the strength to use them, its like fire, pins, crushing bones, it would leave me crying because of the pain. ( Im a walking human pain) I didn't know aging would cause so much pain. Im also taking Neurop Away caps & cream. It helps when my son massages my hands & feet.

Just starting our path towards healing. The power of the mind is an amazing thing.. A good friend is still in the hospital after a car accident. It looks promising, but I was looking for exactly this to help with his recovery. He was in a drug induced Comma and unconscious for close to 14 days. This happened last month around the 12th.. The hospital is just starting with his aggressive physical therapy and assessment of the injury. As I have learned in this short time. Every TBI is unique and just like a fingerprint, no two are ever alike..

I take gabapentin for nerve pain in my feet due to a ruptured disc. Its helps takes the edge off. I can tell right away if I forget to take it. I take 300 mlg 3:times a day. My main side effect is short memory .I'll go in a room and forget what I went in for, but I remember in a few seconds. I'm 72 now, but it was never like that before I was on it.Been on it now for 10 years. That is my only complaint. I would not be able to function on anything higher. Taking the edge off is good enough.

Statins do not have a 40 50% benefit rate, it is 1% if you take statin every day for 5 years you have an increased mortality by 4 days. Oxford researcher Collins department was paid 200 million by the manufacturer of statins, conflict of interest me thinks and the trail was flawed at best. Also beans and legumes are high in natural pesticides they are not good they are really toxic for us. I agree on full lipid investigations and work from there. Watch KZbin (powerfulJRE) cardiologist on the over prescribing of statins for heart.

I took Gabapentin in the 90s and had the most horrible nightmares of my life. After two nights, I stopped the med and reported the side effects to the doctor. Through the years my pain doctor kept trying me on newer versions of nerve meds until I became suicidal and went off in tears on the doctor. During ALIF/PLIF surgery, I was given a nerve block that made me so restless and irritable I could hardly stand myself for seven days. I simply can’t take any med that works on the nerves because they make my brain crazy. I have severe osteoarthritis with multiple surgeries and joint replacements as well as spine damage up and down from a bad car accident in 1984. Living with pain is very difficult but I don’t need my brain to go insane on top of all that.
