My theory is that this is all Dennis. It’s too elaborate of a story. For an obscure unknown label as well as a fairly unknown band, doing something like this makes perfect sense to bring attention to your self. **** update on this. I’m pretty positive it’s Dennis. Hear me out.. The Chinese emailed on forgive and forget is the note left by Death from Mayhem , at least lines from it. and Dennis would of recognized this immediately as his band is categorized as “black metal” so I’m sure he knows the Mayhem history. His band also “ gained notoriety for marketing themselves as being from China”. The music is cool and the story behind it is interesting. Good marketing.

I know how this sounds through a KZbin comment, but I was there that night at the Ghost Bath/Harakiri for the Sky show in Atlanta at Boggs Social that night and even got to hang out with the bands after the show. While I didn’t want to overstay my welcome and spent most of my time with them talking to one of the opening bands (Unreqvited), I don’t recall any conversation like this taking place, at least while I was out there on the patio with Dennis and the guys

This story would be so much more interesting if begotten's music was actually mysterious and unorthodox instead of like, slowed and reverb beattapes. Like all of the music videos are pretty basic stuff. Most of the images are pretty clearly taken from other parts of the internet and one of the albums samples fucking spooky scary skeletons.

This is weird. I've liked Ghost Bath for years and last month I stumbled across Begotten and other bands on the Geometric Lullaby label on Bandcamp during a Friday and the whole catalog was incredibly affordable so I've been listening to loads of this music for a month or so now never the wiser about the metal band connection or any of this backstory.

@@angellane1848Looked up that shovel quote, from the tiny bit of digging I found a post from 2008 saying that the lead singer of Static X said it's from some South Carolina news show, I'll do a bit more digging into it tomorrow, seems like a decent lead since there'd be an interview out with a music magazine or show of the singer saying it if he actually did. Edit: found a website quoting him talking about it being on the news and happening somewhere in the backwoods of southern california, probably sometime between 1996-1999 based on when the album came out.

I am more and more convinced that this is just Dennis. Not saying it taints my enjoyment for it but lets be real here. His band Ghost Bath pretended to be from China back when it was just a solo project by Dennis - hence all the chinese text with Begotten releases. The black metal connection becomes clearer when keeping in mind that the chinese text for "Forgive and Forget" (that Pad didn't want to post in the last video) is literally a bungled translation of Deads suicide note (singer from Mayhem). This dude runs a label, of course he knows how to properly market stuff. Also the fact that no one seems to acknowledge Begotten when they're "nearby" makes no sense to me

Sounds like Dennis I mean ‘Begotten’ has come up with a creative way to sell records. And that ending with the dead show in Georgia that no-one came to except the character he thoughtfully came up with many years earlier... Very dramatic. People with dark mental illness aren’t going to meet people alone at random locations… And why didn’t he mention if Begotten had an accent, where he was actually from? I’m a filmmaker/ screenwriter and i found it very thoughtful even adding the strange oddities that didn’t make sense like the asian writing that usually didn’t make sense… Either way I’m a super fan of dark fiction. ❤
