Too much downtime between flashes. Federal should've done a much better job of staggering them.

What do you use to clean or sand the lenses?
@stampeedvalkyrie29 күн бұрын
Depends on how bad they are, in short order.. wash and use magic eraser. Inspect. Start with 800 Grit, wetsand. Move upto 1000.. repeat, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000. The finer you sand the better the results after a polish. Typically Novus for polish.. start with 3, then 2. Buff. Hit with a good coat of Autowax as the last step.

If you have vacuum tubes, you might need to shunt those extra connections in some way. When vacuum tubes were used, Motorola microphones had hangup boxes with a green and black wire protruding from it. When you took the microphone off the hangup box, it would allow the transmit tubes to come on. They would turn off when you hang up the microphone for longevity. Also, typically, A PA Microphone isn't the Motorola one. Those are typically for the two way radios and the PA has a separate microphone. Likely something plastic that had the FS logo or name on it. Also, depending on configurations, different connections could be required for the PA function, which allows the radio to receive over the P.A. so they could hear calls back then, as they didn't have portable radios. There would also typically be separate speakers for the P.A. so that the siren and PA can work independently of the other, if that makes sense. I had a very similar bar years ago. Mine had red lenses with clear end caps. Where the takedown are, I had stingers with clear cutouts on the front, and amber cutouts on the rear over white bulb flashers

Back in the day, I had a Code3 XL. My version was all sealed beam, 4 dual bulb rotators and the two cut outs on the front were for Stingers. Mine was all red, and I swapped out the end caps to clear to serve as intersection sweeps. I loved that old bar.

The sealed beam versions were the XL9K series. I prefer the sealed beam versions of the SD and XL bar over the newer XL5K or Force 4 bars.

I know this video is a tad old and the market has changed, but what is a good approximate value for a nypd aerotwin? I don’t want to go looking for one and be way low or way high. If anyone knows it’ll be you
@stampeedvalkyrie2 ай бұрын
1st condition is everything, 2nd AeroDynics are commanding a premium. 3rd department specific Aero bars like NYPD, LAPD.. etc are only going to go up in value. With that said NYPD bars aren't exactly hard to find. Sight unseen I would put a faily large range on value.. $500-$1K+ Higher price would require minimal to no reconditioning and domes would need to be VG to Excellent. Domes can make or break the value of the bar since they are no longer obtainable. Lower price point also assumes the bar is complete and not missing anything. And as always YMMV.

I want to fix it up to sell to my fire chief but i’m not really sure how these work.
@stampeedvalkyrie4 ай бұрын
Look up the model of your bar and see if you can find a wiring guide, this is an LFL SX series bar and going by memory certain wires activated certain functions so long as 12V+ was applied to both the trigger wire and the primary power wire. These wires change depending on which bar you have so what might be correct for this might not work for you.

Hey, When i wire all Lamps (End Lamps, Alley Lamps and Rotators) it only lights the Takedown and rotators function. How can i activate the flash function and disable the takedown?
@stampeedvalkyrie4 ай бұрын
Sounds like you'll need to check your wiring. Each function is on its own circuit, get a meter out and determine what was hooked up where. These bars electrically are really basic.
@TheJackal32104 ай бұрын
@@stampeedvalkyrie thanks for your answer. The flashing makes this Flash Box on the bracket right? Can it be broken?
@stampeedvalkyrie4 ай бұрын
possibly I need more information to be precise. Make it easy on yourself and test each circuit 1 at a time, this will narrow down where your problem lies. Flashers can be replaced, and found pretty easily.

Can you show the wiring, how you got them to light up
@stampeedvalkyrie5 ай бұрын
First thing I did was lookup the installation manual from whelen. This gave me the direction of what wire activated what function. Black was ground, everything else activated specific lightheads, alleys or takedowns. Or changed the flash pattern. Combining multiple wires together allows you to light the whole bar.

We had them when I was an MP at Ft. Bragg. Still my favorite I ever used, over the Federal Twinsonics. Still, they could've been better from the company by adding another bulb to the inside rotator.

PSE did allow that as an option, you typically see these on the Select Alert optioned bars. If you go through my video, I have done this myself on a few bars.
@markmendez33805 ай бұрын
I had this and decided to "change" the flash pattern. For those who don't know how the bar works, there are literally a gear for every light and a gear between each light. So when the motor turns the first gear, the other 20 gears turn. So what I did, I moved and rotated every other light to a different direction making m my "own" pattern. It was pretty cool and the only one with it
