Greetings Rick, I havent ever used this powder myself. However after looking at several Auto reconditioning suppliers websites, I find no substance called "plastic powder" for sale. Is this the same as DTF powder commonly used for sublamination? I`d be curious to try it, but unsure exactly what I`m shopping for or where to locate a supplier. Thanks

This is pretty cool stuff, Rick told me about it recently and I have been experimenting with it. I've been able to do better repairs that I feel will actually hold up. And on materials that generally do not take repairs well. 40+ years in the trade and I am still learning new things, which we HAVE to do in order to be the best at this trade. As always thanks to Rick for his generosity and hard work in sharing his knowledge.

I have a Lincoln Desk table (3 ft. X 6ft.) with a recessed top that I am working on. Where the recessed top meets the edge the top is slightly rounded over, so the top is not completely flat. Should the top be completely flat before I put leather on it?
@a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc82476 күн бұрын
I would be concerned if the top was delaminated. Otherwise the leather will lay on the contour just fine and if it's not that noticeable I don't see a problem. (Said without seeing the damage).

Hey mate. I don’t know if you are able to do a video on this?I’m starting to notice in some of the new vehicles the material almost seems waterproof like a Ford bronco material ,the water just beads off it. It seems even worse than Tesla urethane which I almost don’t do anymore cause of redo’s.My friend just did three redo’s on one Hyundai vehicle that had similar material. The customer basically said he wiped it down with some water 3/4 days after repair and all the paint came right off. It seems like a lot of the new vehicles are coming with non traditional leather or vinyl.
@a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc82479 күн бұрын
I will have to try to recreate the problem. Ford advertises marine grade vinyl which shouldn't be a problem necessarily. I'll see what I can find.

Hey rick, thanks for the video, amazing! I'm in Australia and wonder where I can get this from? Is there another name for it? Can you get it in different colours so less coats of paint are needed? Cheers Stuart 👍

Hi Rick, while i thank you for this video and its great, i only asked for what the powders name is thats all. Not for a supplier. I understand how you dont name suppliers. I just wanted to know the name as it could be called other things in Australia. For example, Namptha is called Shellite in Australia. I just wanted not to waste money on stuff that isnt what you showed in your video. Thanks again@a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247

@@stuartboyle3003 As I mentioned, it's been used in the industry for decades. Any supplier would know what you wanted if you asked for plastic powder. Asking by any other name would only confuse them. I am doing the best I can for everyone involved. Thanks. I do appreciate your involvement in the community we are creating.

I think the application will be on a case to case basis. If you are talking about the urethane seats we will have some information on those coming up in a video soon. It's not pretty.

Cool, now I have to get an iron like that. I have several of the 100 watt soldering irons and they are cumbersome. This is some VERY useful information as there are armrests that cannot be disassembled in order to recover them. I do repairs on this exact type MBZ armrest all the time. The replacement part is pretty expensive, so a good repair is a very easy job to sell, and you can charge well for the repair. Looking forward to the next in this series of repair videos! Thanks as always for sharing this info. This is SO much better than some other videos where the tech is using a torch with a flame to do repairs, that can't be good for the compound or the material.

The nice thing about these irons if you like them is the low price and ready availability. Plus you don't have to show up at work with wrinkled clothes!

Excellent video, full of information, I'm glad that some of the practices you have used with the glue, filler was used by someone else. I have used these techniques myself, it is great for smooth grain, but it can be more difficult on heavier grain leather.
