Looking for Over 60 channel. Do I just have to wait?

Insurance rates sqeezed me out of avaiation. I was ready to buy a new airplane but the insurance rates killed the sale. I typically fly three times a week. I had no accidents, no incidents and not even a close call. My health is excellent and I take no medications, not even an asprin, but I am 78 yearsold. I work out everyday, do pushups and dips. Still my rates were sky high. I simply sold my current plane and called it quits.

Absolutely love your channel!… My son is a CFII, I got my PPL a year ago at 57. We are getting to fly a lot together. A senior video on your audio/video set up. I have a few cameras, and I have an audio recorder... i'm setting up for us to have content together in the plane. Would you be willing to do some zoom contract to give me your inside thoughts?… You really have great content and your editing is so well done. Happy to trade emails. Thanks from Texas.

Studying to take the written in the next month. I am age 61. I’m looking hard at the 10-day course, but since I work at an airport, I am going to see what the local flight school can offer as an accelerated program that I can do on my lunch or after work.

I love this video. I’m a photographer and I rent a plane From Albatross Air in Beaver, West Virginia and I’m thinking about strapping some cameras down to the plane when I go back June 1 to get some good audio

You're right about every point to finish the IFR. Time is of the essence. I appreciate the urgency you expressed and I must apply that too. Currently I'm about half way through my private cert. but am preping as much as I can for IFR next. My employment only allows me to fly about twice a week but am much encouraged to hear your priorities.

Good advice, especially about separating flying from filming... I have missed some really cool footage because i didn't want to fiddle with a camera during a flight for fear of getting behind the airplane. Here's an episode from my channel, have a look and tell me what you think. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3SwgImFmc-harM

Use GPS track when flying the approach. It takes the guesswork out of correcting for wind.

I love the 177B. If flown properly at the correct V speeds (a little faster) it is great. If you fly it like a 172 you will not like it. That is more on the pilot than the airplane. It has a very nice wing that does not tolerate ham-fisted butter-churning. and pitch-pumping. This is probably why it did not replace the 172 as hoped for by Cessna. Oh BTW keep that leading edge free of bugs. It makes a big difference.

I'm 52, just passed my checkride a couple weeks ago. I have a Piper Cherokee pa-28-140 and I'm getting ready to get a GNC 355 in preparation for my instrument training. I've really enjoyed watching your videos over the past year or so.

HI from the UK. Superb video. So bang on point. My plane has definitely changed my life, business and my ministry. The adventure has just began. Thanks for sharing.

I'm 52, and I just passed my check-ride last Friday. I bought a Cherokee to learn to fly in and I'm going to do a lot of that now. I'm definitely going to get my instrument rating but I have not decided whether I will get my commercial or not. I think I would like to just because but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

180 is w/o a doubt the toughest. Understanding the wind and how your plane performs on glide speed is key. I used a plane that had a best glide of 65 knots. I got the best results when I kept some flaps in back pocket on short final. That way I could use them to slow down or dump ‘em close to ground effect for an extra push.

In my RG I managed 150mph TAS at under 8GPH! Awesome visibility and super easy entry and egress. Just get "Door Stewards" to avoid hinge damage if the wind is blowing.

Ha! I fly out of KZPH, I park over by Hawk Hanger (until I can get into a hanger). At any rate, I'm learning purely out of the joy of aviation. I'm soon-to-be 49, so I don't have plans to go to the airlines. I'm interested in alternate commercial paths though. I want to go through to commercial no matter what as I believe it will make me a better pilot overall.

I originally started my PPL in my 20's but stopped after 41 hrs due to finances. Now I'm 53 with a family, and I am determined to finish what I started. My wife and I dream of having some flying adventures, but it never occurred to me it would still be possible to seek out a career in aviation after 50. Just something else for me to think about, so thank you for the inspiring question.

Getting a job isn’t the only reason to learn how to fly. In fact for some people turning it into a job is how it loses its magic. To me, hearing someone say that they are tired of general aviation, is the same as saying I’m tired of driving cars I’m just going to use Uber from now on. We are lucky to live in a country that affords us this luxury, most countries don’t. The magic in aviation comes from the freedom of being able to hop in a plane and going wherever we want at a moments notice. The airplane is the tool we use to do this. You can own it outright or enter into a partnership or rent it or join a club. There are countless reasons to learn how to fly an airplane. Forgive me but getting tired of general aviation is a loss of perspective in my humble opinion. Good luck on your journey and safe travels.

@larrymoy49554 ай бұрын
I started a career change to aviation but it's not going as fast as I expected. Various reasons but a big one is that I just absolutely love time building by traveling GA. Even after I get a commercial job flying jets I don't think I'll ever be tired with GA. I've made too many friends in the community.

I stopped flying after 60 hours into training 3 years ago. 50 years old now. Economy tanked, less disposable income and thought, what the heck is my mission? I can't just take off for burger runs. Seems like a lot of money just for bragging rights and farting around in the sky. I still have that urge to finish though. Being in control of your own flight is an amazing experience.

Love the topic on doing more with piloting after 50. I am a bit confused by the comment “I am done with GA”. Was that more like “I am done with not making more out of my flying”. Technically corporate flying is still GA. Your 135 is GA. Not trying to be technical, just trying to understand where you/she is going with that comment.
