turning a client from a "one off" into a "subscriber", in the best sense of the word, is awesome

So true! That's very observable here on KZbin as well as any other platform. It's how you grow that authentic support network, isn't it?

The part about talking to clients about the personality of their characters really resonated with me! i have a lot of friends irl that like D&D and constantly ask me to draw for them, and is really nice hearing them talk about their stories and things like that, and I found it weird when I found out that most artists I follow on social media just ask about what the character looks like..I think it takes out the fun of it when someone just cares about how pretty or handsome a character is, even more in storylines where story is important. I thought I only cared 'cause I am an aspiring illustrator, but hearing clients also care how my friends care about their characters was really nice ❤️

I had a short stint as a Fitness salesman, and as badly as i hated it, i learned a lot of valuable stuff from it. Glad i think like most of these tips already.

i will say that compiling a reference page (google doc) of the client's commission work is really helpful. showing that i care and listen and ask them to help me make the commission closer to the image they have in their head, or even suggest some things that would make their original idea even better. My clients really like the care and the options and know i am interested in them and their ideas.

Excellent practice! Do you think it would be a helpful to make a video on how and what references I find?
@twitchew4 ай бұрын
@@TheArtMentor yes - also about getting a client to supply their own refs and how to kind of “rank” conflicting or ambitious refs. I have encouraged them to give me stick figure drawings for scenes or poses when we couldn’t find a ref or final MSPaint in some images to show me what it was that was a detail they wanted. I look forward to the video on helping the. Client to help you.

Is the DA job board still a good place to get commissions? Most of the requests seem low paying ($10-$30) and very NSFW.
@TheArtMentor4 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I'll be honest and tell you that you do have to sift through those requests to find the decent ones. If you check regularly, you'll see them

What platform do you use to get clients tho? Also is there any way to earn without having PayPal?(I live in a third world country)
