Mortal Kombat 1 on the GameBoy ruined everything! We believed a fighting game couldn't run at more than 10fps, couldn't have more than 6 characters and 3 stages with an input delay of 4-6 weeks. How could anyone have expected KI to be instantly responsive, have a high frame-rate, and have so many elements from a 6 button 64-bit arcade machine. It's actually insane how good it is for what it's running on. We should have NEVER doubted 90's RAREWARE. Great seeing your reaction and glad your were impressed.

I have a question: How did you swap out the crt in your KI cab? On the back of the cab, I can only remove the bottom wood panel with a key. The top panel seems to be nailed and glued in place, which is the one I need to remove. Maybe you pulled it out from the front?
@KillerArcadeGames4 күн бұрын
It has to be removed from the front. Take off the glass and plastic bezel, there are nuts you remove and the monitor can come out. Just be sure to unplug the power, video and wrap up the remote adjustment board before removing it.

I'm glad you mentioned Hard Drivin' because that's the only other arcade racer I ever thought was comparable to RUSH. That game was so sim that it had a freaking KEY to crank the car. RUSH is a really special case with layers of depth you didn't really expect from an ARCADE racer. I really wish more modern games would take inspiration from games like RUSH, Beetle Adventure Racing, SplitSecond and just make really fun, multipath racing games that focus more on the exploration of the track and less about the two extremes we tend to get now. 1) Sim racers with a focus on licensed cars and real locations 2) Scripted rollercoaster ride racers with all flash and no substance like Crusin' Blast where you just hold down the gas and let it happen. They're all fun, but I really feel like the RUSH style needs a lot more love.
@KillerArcadeGames6 күн бұрын
I remember that key and thought it was pretty cool they had that. I remember the big dedicated cab where you sat in the seat and almost got pulled into the “car” style cabinet. I sucked so much as the game but thought it was interesting. I fully agree about the games now. You really nailed the roller coaster style new games. I don’t know if it’s laziness or just them not being able to risk putting a game out that won’t appeal to a mass audience but it’s sad to see.
@GlaciusXL6 күн бұрын
@@KillerArcadeGames The full size sit down version is the only one I ever saw. It was borderline full-on simulator. Very immersive. Yeah, I think the roller coaster thing is the result of them targeting the baseline "modern" person in general. The assumption (and probably mostly accurate) is that people now are lazier and have an infinite number of things fighting for the remnants of "Attention Spans" that have all but become extinct. So, they flash a lot and try to make you feel like a winner even if you suck. It's like when pinball decided that the JACKPOT shouldn't be a rare/difficult thing to achieve, but rather, you should be able to get 50 of them by accident. And instead of scores incrementing by hundreds or thousands... just launching the ball is worth a MILLION!
