That is amazing! Thanks for sharing Matt! In a previous video i commented asking if you got any astrophotography time during your trip to chile, well looks like you not only got time but you made the most of it 🙂

Amazing! Thanks so much for sharing Matt! As a resident of Australia, I love that the milky way core rises to zenith for us in the southern hemisphere. The magellanic clouds, Tarantula nebula and Omega centauri are my favorite astrophotography targets here. I hope you had some time to do astrophotography in chile 🙂

Had no idea this ever happened. Is it something that can be predicted ahead of time? Was it visible in the city?

Ya it is rare to happen here, but the solar activity has to be very strong to allow the aurora to get down to us in Pittsburgh. I downloaded the app called Aurora to help predict.

Great tutorial! How could the comet not move in front of the star background in 20 minutes?

Using a wide enough lens doesn't show the movement as bad for the 20min integration. It's definitely cruising haha.

Polemaster is the only way to go. I’m 6ft 3in and will never crawl in the dirt again 😊. Also why doesn’t tak make a 90 degree adapter for the polar scope would make it much easier and quicker but if tak made it the cost would be much higher than a Polemaster 😊
@MattDieterich

That would make polar aligning a lot easier!

Hi Matt. Thanks for explaining how custom white balances work with a modified camera. Recently, I've been thinking of getting my Nikon D750 H-alpha modified. But I've learned that model has a problem with an internal IR source that may screw up long exposures. So I've been searching for another Nikon model. I like the looks of the Z6, but the modification sites I've visited also list the Z6 as having the same problem as the D750. Since you have the Z6, would you be kind enough to tell me if long exposures really are a problem, and how you handle them? If the Z6 handles the modification with no major problems, do you suppose my D750 would be okay with it too? Appreciate any advice. And thanks!
@MattDieterich

@@johnstassek7020 hey John the Spencer's Camera modified Z6 I had was great and didn't have any issues that I noticed. A workshop client had a modified D750 this weekend that worked well too.

Nicely done. How long did it take you to get permits to commercially shoot in each park? It looks like it's taking a few weeks currently and is about $150 for each permit. 😬

Very cool, worth it going to Maine. Texas was indeed cloudy, but luckily I had some breaks in the clouds. Driving to outrun the clouds meant I only had 5 minutes to set up my cameras. Set up 2, one on a tracker, but didn't have time to get the remotes on the cameras, so I just used the shutter button which made a few frames blurry. Still worth it though!
