Thank you to our Melbourne soldiers for putting us on the map and bringing honour to us melbournians and thank you to all the diggers throughout Australia and of course a big thank you to the other half of the ANZAC's, the New Zealanders. You all did us proud. Lest we forget.

The way that language is used when referring to ANZAC is telling & denotes a kind of statehood religious zeal. For example, using terms like pilgrimage, the whole "They died for us" mantra and Australia being born in the bounds of war/bloodshed/sacrifice rather than nation-building, diplomacy or federation is telling. However, we are being VERY selective with this story as the Aboriginal's have the same sacrifice & they do not even get acknowledged & have had their invasion completely white-washed.

I wonder why the mythos of ANZAC is held soo tightly to Australia's national identity?. As Aust. was founded 13 years prior & never gets a mention, Indigenous Australian's & their battles against foreign invaders is instead celebrated by the colonisers & receives little to no attention & the ANZAC legend is ripe for propelling future wars as a powerful recruiting tool.

What a load of propaganda. Old mate tries to convince us that the western invasion didn't started a decades long genocide by the zionists which they enable.

My son is going to France on a school trip in April 2024. They are going to the Anzac dawn service in Villers-Bretonneux on the 25th April... What an experience for him. It'll be 106 years since our Aussie diggers fought and won the battle at Villers-Bretonneux.

I was fortunate to visit ANZAC Cove in late October. There were no crowds, we were able to take our time to read each headstone. Yes the wind was cold, but it was so moving. Recommend that you visit in the quiet time.

*Surrender at Ziza* "A force of nearly 5,000 from the Turkish Maan garrison was encountered by elements of the 5th Australian Light Horse Regiment at Ziza on 29 September 1918. This unique event resulted in members from the Australian Light Horse sharing Food & Fire for one night with soldiers of the Turkish Army and protected them from the Arab Bedouins from the Beni Sakhr tribes. Major General Chaytor’s successful campaign east of the Jordan: The Maan garrison was hopelessly cut off and had been fleeing northwards to Amman. On the morning of the 29 September 1918, their hasty defensive position at Ziza station was contacted by two squadrons of the 5th Light Horse Regiment under Lieutenant Colonel Donald Cameron. Thousands of Beni Sakhr tribesmen had gathered in the hills surrounding the Turkish Garrison, threatening to strike against them. The Turkish commander wanted to surrender but was unwilling to lay down their arms to the small Australian force since that might mean their annihilation by the Arabs. General Chaytor himself came forward late in the afternoon to consult with Cameron about the situation and decided that the Turks should remain in their trenches and keep their arms until stronger reinforcements arrived the following morning. The 7th Light Horse Regiment assisted in the defence of the position overnight and this unlikely coupling of Turkish and Australian troops stood guard until daylight. By the next morning the New Zealand Mounted Rifle Brigade had arrived and it was safe to disarm the Turks and formally take them prisoner. A detailed narrative account of the surrender at Ziza written by Donald Cameron can be read in the appendices of the war diaries for the 5th Australian Light Horse. Cameron notes in the war diary that the Turkish forces, although having great superiority of numbers, were terrified of the Bedouins and seemed "worn out". The original official surrender document, signed by “Ottoman Company Commander at Djezir, Ali Housain,” Commander of the Ziza Garrison, ceding troops, guns and other stores to the Australian Forces, is held at the Australian War Memorial."

Gary thanks for these videos. I hope they help younger Australians to understand what the sacrifice of war means. As an aside for a number of years the year 11/12 students from Mackay North (Qld) made a "pilgrimage" to both ANZAC Cove and later to Villers Bretoneux. They did their research and found out that there were locals (elderly men and women and younger ones) who had direct connections with Gallipoli and the Western Front. They marked each grave with an Australian Flag and recited the Ode, often with tears in their eyes or running down their cheeks. They knew and understood the sacrifice. Thanks

How true. I was at Galipoli in 2009 (in late Oct) it was so quiet and peaceful and such much understandable. My first visit to Villers Bretoneux was also "out of season", about 10 or 15 days before the 90th anniversary of the Armistice. There were just 3 of us in the Australian memorial that day. RIP Lest We Forget.

I have the greatest honour to walk the streets of this French town. To be able to see the schools; drink in their hotels, dine in their restaurants. My last visit in 2017 I walked through this school and saw how much the people of Villers Bretonneux remember and "love" those WWI heros. I was even more priveledged to see the Adelaide Cemetery were for 75 years Australia's "Unknown Soldier" laid beside his mate. Thanks.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Recent studies and research, supported by new documentary sources, have proved that Roy Brown did not bring down the Red Baron. He couldn't from his position. Who killed Richtofen was Popkin or Evans, two Australian gunners. The only ones who were in the position from which came the blow that killed the Red Baron.
