Years ago in the Netherlands in the Euro time, before stamps with the old money value ware made invalid, someone sold stickers with different old stamps on it so that you didn't have to calculate the total value from Guilder to Euro. It was useful if you had to send many packages. Only, the stickers did contain a counterfeit stamp among the real stamps.

Hello from what a beautiful stamp. I have just won a penny black in an auction here in New Zealand. The stamp has four perfect margins. It’s from plate 4 SG1. It has a black maltese cross, I’m hoping to get a red one soon. I’m over the moon with mine as you are with yours. Congratulations 🥳

Just back from a visit to Isle of Man, have a collection up to 2000 and thought to get a few from the post office there. Bought a stack of postcards to send to family and friends around the world... found out that the post offices on the island only sell booklets for local delivery... meaning that all those different rates stamps they sell are not available for general postal use from the post office. One can buy the new issues from the philatelic online service that is based in an industrial business park near the airport... not a place for collectors to go. The IOM Post Office just puts meter labels on all outgoing mail. So, two things, first, if you get legitimately postally used stamps - expecially the overseas rates - they will be scarce! Secondly, IOM "postage" stamps are really now just government labels with prices affixed... they do stretch the definition of what a "postage" stamp is.... Otherwise, recommend to one and all a trip there to enjoy the towns and villages, the historic sites and maybe some motorcycle racing.. it it a great place with great people!

I use a Signascope watermark viewer which does not involve any fluid and enables the watermark to be properly studied under a magnifier.

I have used Swan lighter fluid for watermarking. No problems so far.

High denomination refers to the value printed on the stamp. High value refers to the actual value of the stamp.

The passing of John is such sad news. I’ve been watching his videos since 2011 and just loved his passion for stamps. John’s videos are full of great information and being a Machin collector myself, I found John to be a great helper in building and understanding my collection. After watching this last episode I immediately went on line looking for Czeslaw Slania’s SG2078 1999 £1 large Machin. Thankfully I found one and it will always remind me of.:- ‘John Collects Stamps’. Please keep John’s videos on KZbin for a while longer because I’m sure I’ve missed a few of them along the way. RIP John.

Thanks for a very interesting post, John. We seem similar in a way that we both live alone and only see our kids intermitantly. I also enjoy my own company and spend ages flicking through my albums. I have an extensive Commonwealth collection including these two countries though I only collect up to KGV1. I have about 20 early Transvaal shield/eagle designs that Ithought were quite valuable but just watched a 'Cheshire Stamp Auction' video where it explained how to spot forgeries and it appears all of mine ARE fakes. Sob - though they seemed too good to be true. I also particularly like the KEV11 head profile stamps. Anyway, all the best to you, Ray

Hello to all dear philatelists. I have a specialized catalog of postage stamps of the Netherlands from 2007, and the prices listed in it are almost twice as high as in the more modern catalog in this video. I have a question - how did it happen and what is happening. Perhaps one of the philatelists from the Netherlands can explain this to me. I will be grateful for the answer. Valentine

Can you please explain to me what do the numbers mean on back of stamps I have asked this question quite a few times and I get replies saying what numbers when holding the stamp at an angle these numbers appear that seem very faded what do they mean

US poetess Emily Dickinson wrote in a poem that that, "Books take one worlds away." Stamp collecting does that in spades with actual pictures. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt also collected stamps. And I learned, as had others before me, that during illness there is no greater stress relief than that of stamp collecting. Need to get lost to escape stress? -- collect stamps, and seek what any particular issue represents; WW II Norwegian stamps history fascinates.

Does knowing that the DDR printed quite a few stamps with fake cancellations dissuade you even a little from wanting to put together a comprehensive collection?

Very nice stamps. I started my GB expedition with the Jubilee issue (1887) added a few used Delarue and Waterlow seahorse(s), a 3-strip of 2p blue and another strip of penny reds, that's basically it for me.
